One can be killed, kidnapped, tortured, or treated poorly quite easily anywhere, including the US. That attitude is why the war on 'terrorism' won't ever show a victor. Ok, done with politics, for now.

And you choose to reside where...?!?!?

GTH where you'll probably 'feel' more secure and comfortable!!!

Went to Belfast a few years back and loved it. Stayed on Lower Newtonwards Road. :)

everywhere has probelms in all honesty but the media makes it seem worse by only showing the bad in places. I bet everyone can state something bad where they live but its not what makes the whole place, same as Egypt in the end. there people will have it hard for years to come but it was once a lovely tourists spot and will be again and some parts still are, if you look at irelands history it will show you this.

if you do go I hope you enjoy it as much as my aunt did even if its not possiable to vape in certain places, would think this is the least of there polices worries really. :):):)

I'm sure that you're right. The Guinness tasted great in Belfast - but have enough of it and it'll taste great anywhere. :)

Today I learned a phrase: "cheap as chips" :)

I hope you make it there and have a safe and enthralling trip. I'm always interested in the difference between media coverage of a region in flux and the shoe-on-the-ground reality. It could be interesting to see those differences and experience the political drama from a safe distance.

Thanks. I was there in Egypt in Jan 2012 - the trouble had already begun by then.

A man at a roadblock was run over and killed by a local coach in our convoy - that coach was then (not surprisingly) stoned heavily by the local people.

The whole convoy had to flee - we were on a road with no exits, so all went back the way we came, chased by the local people.

In the end the army secured the road for us and we could get back - all a bit hair-raising, though.

On a lighter note - "cheap as chips" is a very popular phrase over here. The "chjps" are the sort that you get from a Fish 'n' Chip shop (big French Fries) rather than potato chips (which we call "crisps").

So what you're saying is you want to go back for the warm nostalgic memories.
