3mm Ekowool from stormyvaporcellar was too big for the channels. Now Im out of silica and had to make the Ekowool kinda work... I tried cutting the wick that goes in the channels in half but Its not really working lol. The coils wont heat up fast enough, or its not wicking or both. Im going to try no wick in the channels tomorrow. I dk but can someone tell me exactly what size of the TWIK will fit? I think I taste the cotton when I used it as a wick, do you taste it in the TWIK with cotton core?

here is the stuff I got and the fit in Ithaka is perfect Twik Ekowool and Twisted Organic Cotton Yarn Hybrid Wick for Atomizer Build | eBay
It wicks perfect for me and taste is slightly better than regular silica. I tasted the cotton a little for the first hour or so but I didn't find it too bad.
The same seller also has a slighly smaller diameter silica core Ekowool if cotton bothers you. Ekowool SCN 1 5 Solid Threaded Silica Core Atomizer Wick | eBay

I'm sold on the cotton core so far. We'll have to see how it holds up to dry burns

and about Ekowool sizing, it appears most diameters given, are internal diameter, not external. I believe Stormy's has a warning about this.

Update (2nd day) : Using 2mm Ekowool, Dual coil (0.8 ohms), and the Mr. Krinkle Method. It is wicking really well, flavor and throat hit is still nice and strong. No flooding of any kind and I could tell that it is holding the juice really well due to the tightness of the draw if that makes any sense. I should have taken a picture of my build at the beginning, maybe I will open it up after the tank goes empty and see if I can take a good picture of it.

I want to try this when my other Ithaka gets here. You're using the hollow core right? What's your eliquid ratio? I vape 60pg/40vg so I wonder if it's too thin for this method.

Yep, it's the hollow core Ekowool. No wicks in the channels, only in the top slot. The liquid I'm using is 100% VG Havana's Gold, moderately thick. I think it will work even if it's a thin juice. Once this tank runs dry, I will load the tank with some Copper Creek House Blend, which is a pretty thin juice, and I'll let you know how it goes.

Ill get both the cotton core and silica to see how they taste. Pics please! Im not too familiar with the Mr. Krinkle method and I want to make sure I do it right. And the ekowool seems to be wicking better with a night of soaking.

Sorry, I couldn't take a picture on my refill yesterday since I had to run out of the house in a hurry. The Mr. Krinkle Method is very simple, you just need to cut the wick at the top, right where the channels start. Here is the original thread on the method, Krinkle Method. The idea behind it is that the pressure caused in the tank will automatically drive the liquid up to the top, so you don't need any wicks in the channels, and the liquid will not go to the bottom at all. Everything else is the same, such as attaching the non-res wire in the ceramic channel to the positive post, and resting the non-res wire on the negative/metal channel. I do things a little differently, where I will cut the non-res wire on the negative side up to where the joint/twist begins, and I do this because it is easier to have the non-res wire on the negative side sit inside the channels. I'll take a picture of my next rebuild if you still need it but it probably won't be until another week or two.

Just a little update, the current build on the Ekowool is just perfection. Still going strong, and no flooding at all even with the juice control open all night, or the tank getting super hot.

Have you guys tried the MrKrinkle method on the Ithaka? Very interesting!

I actually setup a MrKrinkle in the Ithaka about an hour ago. In addition, I did this as a dual coil. LOTS of clouds. It's been wicking perfectly. I did the same on one of my Odys. Setup a dual coil on the Ody with MrKrinkle. Wicking like a dream.

Wow nice, I gotta try this. I'm still trying to wrap my head around why it doesn't all flood out the bottom but I'll try it! Plus it'll save on wick material!

What size wires did you use to make coils for your MrKrinkle setup in the Ithaka? Are you using the 2mm Ekowool? hollow or threaded?

So far it's vaping like a dream. And it will met less wick used for sure. It develops a form of "capillary" action. Pressure in the tank seems to create a vacuum. And the natural motion of vaping tips it as well. Which has a bigger impact I don't know. Gonna try a penny using this as well.

I used 3mm silica to both setups. I don't have eko yet. Have the twik eko on order and you can bet ill be setting up the MrKrinkle to try. I don't expect to even set this up until this weekend. Should be here Thursday and then I'll boil and dry.

Awesome.. do you have any different method of opening the mouthpiece, or just use as you normally would? I feel like this will also waste less juice because after a new build you're not throwing away a big juice-soaked wick/wicks..

I started slowly. 1/2 turn, etc until you find your sweet spot. Just like with a full wick. It will have a direct dependency on the juice. One juice may need a turn, another more. Etc. I have 2-3 turns depending. But im just about pure VG. I would imagine varying ratios will require less and PG barely anything.

Ody was a single wick. Ithaka had two singles crossed. I never use singles be ause they dry hit on me the most. These havent dry hit once on me

Start barely and adjust. The wick will tell you if its not getting enough just like it would if its a full wick. :)
