Awesome, thanks for the info! Can't wait to try this. I use mostly VG as well, except for the flavorings I add to DIY juice (which is mostly PG based... still about 75-90% VG)
One thing I'm wondering with doing this on an Ithaka is how the top wick and coil will sit. I generally make an X with my wicks on Ithaka. Without any wick in the channels to sort of pull the top wick down I'm wondering how that'll work. I suppose it'll be up to the NR wire to keep it nice and tight? Just don't want the coils to go too much higher than the ceramic. I'm sure I just need to jump in and try it.. so my next build I will definitely do this! It'll be first time with this method, first time with EkoWool and first time filling up my tank with my own DIY juice (I've tasted it a lot but never filled it up for an all day vape) - so I'm pretty excited!

Setting up the Ody was easier since it was a "tighter configuration. I also loosened the post to get the neg wire between housing and delrin ring on post.

Sitting on ithaka was a little trickier. I used the x format. The neg is easy as always. The positive is what you watch since its only an oring. But if you do dual coils on ithaka connect only one at a time. Trying to connect both wires at once can lead to one being sloppy and lifting. Wrap one neg around. Then wrap second. Then tighten the delrin. Turn over and repeat for pos post.

Im going to try this in a penny this week for bobas.

Also, i dont cut exact length before coiling. I leave it a little longer 2mm or so on each end. Once i assemble and button her down, then i trim flush at the edge of housing with nail clippers.

Hi River,

Do you torch this before hand like I do with silica fron COV?

Also, This seems a bit pricey for 2 ft. of wick. Has anyone sourced this cheaper elswhere?

Thanks,

Chris

here is the stuff I got and the fit in Ithaka is perfect Twik Ekowool and Twisted Organic Cotton Yarn Hybrid Wick for Atomizer Build | eBay
It wicks perfect for me and taste is slightly better than regular silica. I tasted the cotton a little for the first hour or so but I didn't find it too bad.
The same seller also has a slighly smaller diameter silica core Ekowool if cotton bothers you. Ekowool SCN 1 5 Solid Threaded Silica Core Atomizer Wick | eBay

I'm sold on the cotton core so far. We'll have to see how it holds up to dry burns

and about Ekowool sizing, it appears most diameters given, are internal diameter, not external. I believe Stormy's has a warning about this.

No Chris, I did boil it for a few minutes though. I don't have a torch yet but I'd be careful torching the cotton core stuff...maybe just do a small test piece because if the cotton burns, the wick will be ruined.
It's more expensive than silica but if I can double or triple the amount of dry burning on this, it'll be well worth it to me. I don't like to do more than two dry burns on silica since it starts to break down pretty quickly.

Makes sense River. Longevity equals it out. Ordered mine 10 minutes ago. I'm hoping It can hold up to .7 ohm dual cool and last for a long time.

Yes with 2mm ekowool just torched prior to wrapping ribbon wire. I was thinking of trying the Twix but don't see a need to.I'm not easy to please but this is doing a great job of it.

What's your take on the ribbon wire? I havent tried it yet as it looks like it could be cumbersome to wrap. How does the taste compare? I guess it would be more durable than round but would that matter since you are still using round nr?

and, 14 dry burns? heck yeah!!

I am joining with a Tsaf so I can't say about twisting. I have used on normal silica compared to eko but the taste was as good as round. Honestly I have thought about the fact it is this old maybe I should recoil to test. Then again both Ithakas are wrapped the same only one is 1 is a week older and taste the same. I have three Oddy's wrapped with it as well and just don't know what to try next. Never been this happy with atty's before. I am not new to this either. Something to try for sure.

Good lord. Don't say anything good about ribbon. I can't possibly face my wife with another new process. She's still in shock vaping the MrKrinke on her ithaka. Her words "if you weren't my husband and I didn't trust you I'd say your full of *** that this is a small piece of wick and nothing more."

Keyword here = trust. "Honey I ordered twik?" "Ordered what? What's that? Why?" "Honey I'm ordering ribbon". "What the....?" BAM. Trust fades

:D

well you sold me, thanks for all the info! I have a welder. Where's a good place to buy the ribbon and what size did you say, .5 ? What size NR are you using?
It'll be sweet to have a coil last for a couple weeks!
