Hello again, Jumpin'. Jigs and tension coil builds--my thoughts--FWIW... I've tried several. From pin vise to Artistic Gizmo to Cigatron's Cigamajig. They work if you're really, really good at creating correct and uniform tension manually. I'm not. And I'm good with working with my hands. I spent almost a year trying and every tensioned coil I ever made required further touch ups--heat and tweezers. So I finally gave up and got me a couple of simple Kuro coilers, Tobeco clone, with 2 mm and 2.5 mm removable rods and never looked back. I can now make perfect (non-tensioned) coils almost with my eyes closed and they always come out great and work great. All they need is a few quick electrical pulses and a few gentle raking strokes with a screwdriver after they are mounted and I'm good to go; no pinching, no overheating, no brutal force whatsoever. Just make sure you get the Tobeco clone with removable rods--that part is critical. Those clones from FT and other places are nasty. I got mine from Desert Vapes and can vouch that they are authentic Tobeco clones. :)

I absolutely, 100% agree with our friend Aldenf that ,"Currently, there is no easy way to tension wind accurately, repeatably and affordably."

Just my :2c:
K. Between you and PufZep, I'm sold. Think I'll get the authentic clone - or maybe all three (???). :)

No way I'm spending a year on tensioned coils. But there was no way I was going to spend $25-50 for the original Kuro or Masters and I wanted a man-toy.

And yeah - I enjoy Aldenf's posts.

When my girls were younger I endeavored to make cleaning house together a "fun" adventure. So we turned off the tv or the computer and no phones were allowed; I would pop in a cd. Many times it would be Disney sound tracts or occasionally a nice musical like Into The Woods. But the girls favorites were Dr Hook, Earth Wind and Fire, Queen, Dean Martin and Ac/Dc. We would take dance breaks when a favorite would pop on. I tried to expose them to different types of artist. This summer my oldest daughter took me to a concert to see Earth Wind and Fire with Chicago. Let me tell ya those older fellas still got it going on. It was an amazing concert.

It's Puf, Alden and me--and many other vapers... ;)

Do you really need a 3 mm coil? I find that 2.5 mm is the most useful size--I use it for all my RBAs; 2 mm is good for smaller atties, like GS Airs and Kangers. Unless you sub-ohm, you'll never need the 3 mm.

I found them cheaper here, but I don't know this vendor--you may want to email them first and ask if those coilers are really Tobecos.

I use a Kuro. Now that I've figured it out, works great. After I get the coil wound, I leave it on the coiler, place my thumb and forefinger to hold it, then I use pliers to put tension on the legs to straighten them.

I just overwind my coil by a few loops and then gently unwind the outside loops. Works fine for me. :)

Iconic? Mr. Basie and some guy with a hat...

Iconc beyond any doubt (IBAD!)

Iconic? Who cares! Great stuff.

Something in that Miles Davis tune (besides the title) reminded me of this:

Then I saw this and went "Wow":

Still like the original recording better, but Bobby McFerrin made me go "Wow".

"Fly Me to the Moon" is a classic and also a favorite.

Maybe you're right. I'm been meaning to try a 3mm coil in my Lemo Drop because people say that the additional cotton holds the juice better and helps with leaks, but I should try a 3mm equivalent in the Drop before buying. Otherwise I have no need for 3mm. I use the 2mm for the GSAs and currently a 2.5mm in the Drop. Too bad they don't have a 1.6-1.7mm, but the 2mm will do for the most part.

The "something" is Joaquín Rodrigo's composition, Concierto d Aranjuez. It's an extraordinary work. Here is one of my favorite interpretations.

I suspect you'll be touched by it. Thanks for introducing me to the McFerrin/Correa performance. ¡Estupendo!

Honestly, I believe that anything smaller than 2 mm is too hard to wick and just doesn't perform well.

I use 2.5mm coil (29 or 28 g kanthal, ~1.5Ω) in my Lemo Drop and my Kayfun 4--but I'm a mouth to lung person.

Thanks for that. I was moved. Don't you love it when the music takes you to another place? And you're right - I hear some of the same phrases.

I use a 1.6+ coil in my A6 dripper with a very light wick. Also used it for the Mini PT 2 - fits perfectly in the wick slots. But I'm not using either much these days, so I'll live. :)

If you have a correct size rod, your Kuro 2 mm may accept it. Give it a try. Just remember that those coilers don't work well with very thin wires--30 g maybe a problem.

You may also make a 2mm coil and transfer it to a thinner rod before you install it. It works.

Works with 29ga. though? I've been using 28 recently, but have a spool of 29 in my cart at Amazon. Did use 30 in the A6, 28 in the MPT2s. 28 was a little wild in the A6. Use 28 on a 2mm in the GS-MSs now, but wanted to try 29.

It does work with 29 g, but takes some finesse. You may have to start the wind manually and use a bit more pressure to get it going--you'll figure it out. No problems with 28 g and below.

Watch some videos--they helped me a lot.
