Morning, Fran. Sorry to be so late, but I had to go to the library bookshop where I do mischief, and then I caught up on my procrastination.
How's the new wick behaving?
How's the new wick behaving?
Welcome Bea! Highly recommended blog right here. My advise... thoroughly read and follow these instructions and you can't go wrong. Lots of luck.So I just cleaned a batch of these GS coils (hot water rinse, vodka soak for 2 hrs, hot water rinse again, dry overnight). They look nice and clean - vape great. I was wondering if anyone knows if this method also removes gunk from the wire coil itself or if it only cleans the wick. I've never taken one apart yet to see.
I was going to use vinegar instead of vodka because I know vinegar will dissolve dirt so I assume it would dissolve gunk from wire too but I didn't because I read a post where someone's coils corroded after the vinegar bath.
I need to make these heads last as long as possible. I know they are relatively inexpensive but it adds up over time. At some point I will try rebuilding just for the experience. Don't laugh! I've seen others do it![]()
I never had any luck with cleaning coils nor had the desire to use them after they were thoroughly gunked. I've even tried to use the ultrasonic cleaning machine on them and didn't get great results. I DIY nothing but clear juices now and it seems to have cured that syndrome. Thanks Fran and IMR! I am saving them and I dowloaded that video you suggested IMR a while ago. Lots of posters poo-poo recoiling them but that wont stop me.
But what about my question about the gunk. Either of you know? And from whatI've read here dry-burning them cant be done right?

Okgo for it, use a coil for a little while then tear into it, you'll thank yourself for doing it...![]()
Yes you NEED an ohmmeter like you described.Mike yes, they are 1.5 coils. You know if it wasn't for this FDA crap I probably would just wash them a few times and then toss them when washing didnt freshen them back up. But I expect they will become expensive after tobacco tax gets slapped on vaping products not that they are all that cheap for my budget now. I started buying them months ago to stash away and I'm set for years (hopefully I won't have too many duds.
So I'm keeping them all after they're used up in case I need to recoil them. I'm prepared for the worst and hope for the best although our government types dont instill much hope in me that they will make sane, reasonable decisions.
By the way are you using that little black ohm meter with the 510 pin to test? I still need to buy one.
I, and many others, are doing the same thing for the same reason Re: the coils. And, yes, I do have an Ohm meter, a cheap one that cost about $10 if I remember correctly. Many mods also come with a feature that show the ohms, but when recoiling, it's very handy having a little meter sitting there to use. Plus, some of my mods, like the iStick Basics, don't have a feature telling you the resistance.Mike yes, they are 1.5 coils.
