Just tried Bike's method. Haven't tried using the coil yet, but I think it will work just fine.

Rebuilt a new coil, so I recycled the original cotton (?) surround - which turns out to be two layers of cotton (or cotton-like) material not unlike the surface of a pad of Japanese cotton. Trimmed my wicks as close to the slot as possible using a pair of mini vertical wire (I assume) pliers that I think are called "nippers". The nippers compress the cut edge of the wick a bit, so I separated the strands using a sewing pin and lightly blowing on the ends.

Put the surround in the cap and - after making sure that the wicks were away from the thickest part of the surround - the cap went on without a hitch. No worries about the width of the surround after I realized that it just has to be wide enough to cover the slots - not necessarily the entire depth of the cap.

Maybe the gauze doesn't have as much surface tension? I'll have to try it with the Japanese cotton surface material, but I think it should work with that too.
How does it vape?

Just loaded the MS up with Lime Cream from Ahlusion (a new eliquid for me) and vaped it side-by-side with my small dripper. The vape from the MS is almost as good as that of the dripper - which is pretty impressive to me. No leaks, flooding or dry hits so far, but I am using 50/50 eliquid. I have some higher VG eliquid from Mountain Oak, but I haven't broken the seals on those bottles yet.

This coil came out at 1.7 Ohm. I used 28 gauge on a 2mm bit again, so I guess I must have added another wrap by mistake. 10.5 - 12 w seems to produce adequate vapor for me, but I haven't settled on wattage yet. To me it tastes pretty good even at 9 watts.

Good afternoon, AirHeads. Gotta question for whoever is interested in trying to answer. I received an order for some new GSA heads recently and my question is, how can I tell if I got the ones with the new cotton inside them? Those were supposed to be available recently, no?

I would think they would trumpet that fact on the box...guess not.

Nothing mentioned on the two boxes I just got from Desert Vapes. I wonder if they're the older ones then.

Short of (1) reading the barcode, which says, in interleaved 2 of 5, that Wm. Shakespeare was just a pseudonym for Francis Bacon, a.k.a., Frank Sinatra, or (2), taking an unused old coil and a similar newly arrived coil apart and checking for chipmunk fur... you might try a taste test. Take an old batch unused coil, and install in a tank, cleaned and refilled with a favorite juice. Do the same with one of the recently arrived coils. Same model tank, same juice. Vape.
You will either discover that they taste different, or that they taste the same.
If they taste the same, this will be because they have the same wick and liner material, or because cotton, just like alligator tail, rabbit, and so many other things, "taste like chicken".

In short, I dunno. :D

I don't think I've ever seen Shakespeare, Bacon & Sinatra mentioned in the same sentence before, let alone have it suggested they were one and the same person. Nice trick... :D

The only way I know to determine is the flame test. Take one apart, hold it to flame. If it burns cleanly with a little gray ash, it's cotton. If it melts or nothing happens it ain't cotton. Then rebuild it with cotton. You'd have nine new ones left. :D

Just for fun...and to warm the cockles of your heart if you are a conspiracy theorist...
I noticed the "chat" option on the eleafus.com page. Here's what happened...

Vince was friendly, polite, and did his best. He was gone for about five minutes after saying he would check.

Can Vince get an answer to my question about the heads?

That sounds like a whole lot of stuff, and probably not like something I would do.:D

Not to be derogatory, but gator, rabbit and chicken all have their unique tastes to me. Gator has different flavors depending on age and is similar to some fish. But the only meat I've eaten that tastes like chicken is chicken. I never hear anybody say that turkey tastes like chicken. To me turkey is the closest flavor to chicken that you can get. But no one ever says that it tastes like chicken. Crow breasts are similar in flavor and texture to chicken :)

In my opinion Lv, I don't think any of these companies change their packaging, much. Just for instance, with the vertical coils for Nautilus'... They changed that coil 3 times (that I know of) and never changed the wording or the packaging on them.

I should have 2 new packs of 'Air coils by Thursday, from RockyMountain. I'll tell you if I notice a difference in those. They are claiming that they are ' cotton wrapped internally'.
Eleaf GS-Air Replacement Coils 5 Pack - $10.00 : Rocky Mountain Vapor, The Mountain top of Electronic Cigarettes
Got a pretty good deal on these too (15.00 shipped..super quick). :)

"Cotton wrapped" could be referring to the liner material also...
