B2T, first off, take a deep breath and repeat after me: "I AM OK!" :D

The one good set up, the one or two good vliquids are a myth.

I have exceeded my break even line (over and above what I spent on smoking) each year over the last four years. I doubt that's encouraging to you. :

Kat daaahling...... you're right. This isn't encouraging. But, I am OK!

In my best Stuart Smalley interpretation: "I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And doggone it, people like me."

OK, all of you who have this tank, please chime in for the benefit of us who do not. Several have reported dry hits. Since I don't have this tank yet, and no experience with this kind of coil, I am merely speculating.

Does this coil head require a lot more time to bring in the juice and get saturated than other style coil heads? I am not even sure what this wicking material is made of but is it the same stuff as the Aspire nautilus coils, or are we talking about organic cotton? I see no reference to it on Eleaf site. Is it part cotton part mystery?

Maybe the dry hits are just an off coil and poor QC for the coils....or maybe not a fully saturated wick?

Everyone having issues with dry hits.....please report what viscosity/ ratio of juice you are running, and your vape habits. I can get dry hits with every device I've had because I am a chain vaper at times. If any prebuilt coil can keep up with me, I will be impressed. I'm not trying to imply that any of this is user error, but I am trying to avoid a problem myself. If I need to fill the first tank and let it sit for two hours before firing it...I'd like to know that.

I have *not* had any dry hits. I use 50/50.

I primed these the same as I did the egrip coil heads-- drip juice onto each of the 4 wick holes until they no longer absorb quickly. a drop or two down the center, right onto the coil, blow out if you feel it's necessary. screw into the base, fill the tank, block all the airholes and take a few primer puffs without power, watch the bubbles rise!

let sit for a minute or three.. then vape.

eta: oh, and I found it helps a new coil by starting at the lowest volts/watts and working my way up to my preference.. break it in slowly, be nice to it.. LOL

Dammit, I can't even read this thread til I get mine! :D Perhaps "soon" it will be here. I truly am excited to give this tank a whirl.

Kat...early on in my Vaping Adventures you turned me on to Karto-Tanks. And later (I think it was you) turned me on to the Nauty Mini.

So I...for one...anxiously await your evaluation.

Why does if seem like I spend more on vaping than smoking. I am actually going to go through all my expenses since I quit smoking and compare tonight i think.

I'm almost sure that I am probably spending roughly equal to the expense with smoking but I wanted to save some $ vaping. :(

For some unknown to me reason (genetics? unremembered childhood head trauma?) I get immense enjoyment out of inhaling some "smoke", blowing out some "smoke" rings and getting a hit of nicotine.

When I switched from analogs to vaping I got the same enjoyment. But I now feel A LOT better, my breath and clothes no longer stink, my furniture and clothes no longer get burn holes, the windows in my car and home stay clean, I can eat at NO SMOKING restaurants, I can stay in NO SMOKING hotels, etc. etc. etc.

More or less $'s...I don't CARE! :headbang:

Oh solace...... a new coil is very much like a woman... break her in slowly, be nice to her, and she'll be good to you for a LONG time.

Another chapter in my new book, "Life Lessons Via Vaping". :D

Rather than start a weird thread.......I will just rant here. Hoping for someone to tell me I am ok. Why does if seem like I spend more on vaping than smoking. I am actually going to go through all my expenses since I quit smoking and compare tonight i think.

I'm almost sure that I am probably spending roughly equal to the expense with smoking but I wanted to save some $ vaping. :(

I keep telling myself if I can just get one reliable setup, and find two or three juices that I like (and aren't premium at $1/ml) I should be spending about half what I did on smoking.

OK ......rant over. Anyone else feel the same way? Misery loves company as they say. LOL

I've been vaping over 3 years and have spent a small fortune on gear. It has turned into a hobby for me. But even with my $50 tanks, Provaris, and custom made drip tips I bet I've spent less than I would've on cigarettes. Luckily I've found my favorite juice company so I don't shop around for juice anymore but I have so many favorite flavors! I have cut way back on what I was spending in the last year. I now know exactly what I like and don't waste money too often on something that I don't use (Kanger Subtank).

Cigarettes are $85 a carton here and I was a 3 pack a day smoker. I smoked for 30 years. I consider myself extremely lucky to have stopped smoking before it caused any damage!

Don't give up. You'll eventually get there, too! The first year I was buying everything trying to find the perfect vape. I started with 808 devices and spent a lot before I figured out that I had to change to 510. I was all set until everyone started talking about the iStick. Lol. But I'm glad I went ahead and tried one. The price is great and I love the size. I have 3 full size Provaris and I love them. Worth every dollar to me. But I don't like to take them out since they are hard to carry. I used to use an Ego with an EVOD and carry a couple in my purse. Now I have the iStick with the GS Air and it fits perfectly in the side pockets of my purse.

Got home near midnight & had to scoot back to work early this morning. I won't get a chance to rinse or fill it until at least tonight (can't leave office until 7) [emoji22]

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I haven't bothered to rinse any of mine out. I checked them all and they were completely clean with no smell. I just filled and vaped.

I have 3 GS Airs now. I only use 70PG juice and have had no dry hits at all. I'm also a chain vapor. I have problems vaping higher VG (I get congested and start coughing) but I also prefer the flavor that I get from 70PG juice. It's the perfect combo of flavor and vapor for me.

I put about 3 drops of juice into the coil when I first filled the tank. Started vaping it immediately and have had zero problems. I refuse to use anything that won't keep up with chain vaping. I've used 6 coils now and they've all been perfect.

You're OK. :)

Vaping can be as cheap or as expensive as you make it. I know veteran vapers who make their own eliquids and still use dripping atties--they are content and their cost is just cents per week (if not months).

Then there are peeps who rebuild their coils--you can rebuild anything from Kanger or Aspire coils to expensive (200 bucks a piece) RBAs. The cost of rebuilding is ridiculously low, after the initial investment.

That said, many (most?) vapers just want to vape like they smoked--without the hassle of rebuilding, tweaking, leaking etc.--just grab a fresh coil, refill and go. Those vapers are constantly looking for that perfect rig, which doesn't exist--yet. Our hardware is getting better, but there is no perfect setup. So the idea is to find something you can live with for now--and occasionally trying new gear. This is the most expensive proposition, of course.

You have to choose what works for you and your wallet. But the bottom line--for me, at least--is smoking cessation. If your gear keeps you from smoking, you have already won. And that is priceless. :)

You ARE Ok! I also agree, it is quite possible to spend about 1/2 of what one did on smoking and still get to enjoy some new toys and liquids to try. I know, I've done it -- sometimes even for months.

It is also quite true that I spent way more than smoking the first couple of months. That seems to be pretty common. Do note that I still use that good charger I bought and even a couple of my first mods! I also have (oh my) excessive back ups of things I don't now use. But, alas, like shoes, it's always fun to have more.

After awhile it does become hobby for some of us. Enjoy the adventure.

Neither. I don't have those coils yet, but base on what I know about Delta CS and Aspire BDC coils, which seem to be similar in construction, the material used in them is amorphous silica wick and poly wrap--pretty standard. Aspire BVC coils are the only coils on the market I know of that use fiberglass/ceramic paper, so don't worry. Besides, even Aspire is going to discontinue this practice and switch to either organic cotton or standard silica rope. It's only a matter of time, IMHO.

Maybe the dry hits are just an off coil and poor QC for the coils....or maybe not a fully saturated wick?

All the above? User error and poor QC account for most unhappy vaping experiences.

It's always a good idea to prime this type (carto-like) of coil. I'm sure you don't have to wait two hours--just minutes to make sure that the wrap surrounding the coil is fully saturated.

Other than that, it's all trial and error. You'll have to experiment with different juices and your style of vaping.

Good luck!

I've been using this tank for two days and so far have been very impressed.
I have been running it at 9 watts on my Istick without any dry hits so far.
I found that if I blow into it every once in a while, bubbles come popping up
from the coil. Maybe this is helping keeping the coil wicking?

Negatives: cannot dismantle the tank for cleaning and replacing parts. Like the glass I shattered on the
first one.
I ordered two more with ten coils 'cause it's that impressive!

Finaly able to dismantle the one I broke the glass on:
GSAIR.jpg

It is threaded at the top, but they put a silicon sealer on the threads.
You can see it a bit on the top threads:
GSAIR2.jpg
So it is possible to replace the glass tube, but how to get a hold of them?!?!
I was afraid they were glued together which would preclude cleaning them in the UC...

OK. I just calculated ALL vape expenses since I started in Sep. I have spent almost exactly what I would have if I continued smoking. In reality though, my wife smoked about half a pack a day and is now vaping too. I order all the vape gear and liquid....so I'm probably about $300 ahead of the game in 4 mos time. Not bad.

SO....now I can justify new tanks and new mod after completing this self analysis. And I got all the emotional support I need here to justify too. THANKS! :toast:

Okay, I am really glad that this thread is very alive. Seem that EVERYONE is praising this tank that makes me hard to give up on this one. Not one have described such an issue I have. I do like this tank very much for the simplicity, price, vapor and size BUT the flavor. I am on a third coil now and I still must say the taste is odd, not sure what it is as it can not be a dry hit or a burnt taste. Tried three different juices from two vendors, all high in VG and for this one particular juice which is my favorite since last summer. The taste is odd on this GS-Air unlike the one I know from Kanger single and dual coil, Aspire BVC and now Kanger Subtank mini. Yeah the flavor is a bit different on all those coils but this one it is kinda way off the chart. Damn it, I like this tank! I even smell that it should be for this juice but the flavor, no.....
I also love this tank because you can easily have the option for lung or mouth inhale and that is a big plus for this one with the airflow set to do both at the same setting.
I have been vaping on all settings (on iStick and even once on Spinner II) from 7 to 15 watts but most often do around 10 watts. Seem that the first pull taste just fine and unless I let it sit for a few minutes, the odd taste comes on at the second or third pull no matter what wattage I use.
Could it be that all the three coils are duds? A bad batch of coils? Should I go ahead and try use the Egrip coils in this tank just to confirm this matter of taste?
Sorry for the rant, but I do not want to give up this neat little tank.

Help refresh my memory on what we have suggested so far. Have you cleaned the tank? This was an important step for me. I forgot to initially, and while I thought it worked great from the start, I was definitely getting an aftertaste. After cleaning it - with vodka, as well as moving from that large steel tip to a plastic one, the aftertaste was gone, and all the vaping was great.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend the egrip coils. I don't know if we ever got a confirmation they work.
I would think the odds of all those coils being bad are low. Do you know with 100% certainty you are using GS Air coils? Are you inserting the coils correctly? When all that is out of the way, maybe you want to try a second tank. [If you can find stock. :) ]

MrMik, I feel your pain here. This is part of the reason that vaping can be so difficult for me. So, as an example...my wife got some Five Pawns Castle Long last night. She loves that stuff. I think it's a pretty good juice, but I don't rate it as high as hers. It tasted great in her Protank II with cotton wick .

I load it up into my Eleaf Lemo, and blah..... I can't even vape it. All I taste is cheap Coconut liquid. I've had some Mt Baker Vapor Coconut that tasted almost exactly the same. Tried from 7 to 13 watts, and nothing changes. My wife tasted it and got the same thing. Same juice. Only way I can explain the phenomena is that the Lemo is very airy, with wide open draw. The chamber is pretty large. Totally different device, yes......but I have NEVER had such an extreme difference in taste from one tank to another. And , I have noticed this with only a few liquids/ flavors. Most of the time the liquids/ flavors taste the same to me, just much better and warmer vape in my Lemo compared to our Protanks.

I think it's unlikely all three coils are duds....if you think the taste is on for the first vape. That's what perplexes me. What happened to me last night was a complete shift in flavor throughout....I never had one vape that tasted right.

I know some juices will taste different in various devices and at different temps....but that stinks if it's your favorite juice and it doesn't work out for you. Realistically, I like to hear the negative feedback too, because I don't believe there is a perfect device for everyone. I'm just holding out hope that this $10 tank is for me. If not, it was $10......which is about the price of 10ml of my favorite juice. It's worth trying at least for me.

Maybe try some other juices in the tank to verify that it's across the board for you. Also, I go through periods of the vapers fatigue or whatever. Oftentimes I have a habit of not drinking enough water and am killin my tastebuds. I think this is especially true if you are trying to vape on this tank at higher temps than you were on the other clearos you own. :2c:

I'm sure others with more experience can chime in and offer some guidance.

Mrmik, Bored2 made some VERY useful suggestions. It's always a bit of gamble with whatever we use initially. It could easily be that your t buds just don't care for this particular coil. I'm also wondering if your high VG vliquid might not be saturating the coil(s) as quickly as some less extreme percentage liquids, and therefore not keeping up the necessary wicking for your vape style? Did you adequately prime the atty?

Have any of you rinsed or vodka'd the coils prior to use?

Good luck, and when you find some answers, do let us know.
