There is a picture of the Gauze box I bought on my blog...don't remember what dollar store I bought it at, sorry!
If you would like, I would be happy to send some gauze to you. the gauze is a pain, but it shouldn't fall apart like that!
Yes, your coils will still work, a little high, but it should still vape fine!
I think I bought my ohms reader through Amazon...
I know it's not much consolation, but, it does get easier and the results are worth it!
Believe me, I looked like a monkey with a hammer trying to rebuild my first Air!
Keep at it my friend!
Dollar Tree. :)

Bruce, I sent you a pad of the same stuff Cheech used. you need to open the pad all the way to one layer and remove the paper insert. cut one whole square (as marked by the folds) away from the unfolded pad. that length will wrap around twice perfectly! count 6 lines from the edge and cut to have the right width.

eta: I would also check your lead lengths and trim them back some- your ohms sound far too high for that many wraps of 30g.. may also explain why you were getting wonky readings.

Cheech, how's your ohm reader working out for you?
I find I don't use it as much as I thought I would...like most of the vape junk I've bought!
I should have stuck with using the vamo as an ohm reader...all it's good for now.:D

It doesn't get any clearer than that! :)
I started cutting it folded for my build parties...I'm so lazy.

Yeah. I think I have plenty of mods I can use, just for that task. :)

Hope your parents get better soon, Troll. I can relate cause my MIL is in rehab from a couple of problems and my wife got food poisoning. (Her banana pudding is the suspect, thankfully not my roast I smoked Sunday). They are both still sick but doin better.
I'm going to make my own nickel GS Air coils.
@Bikenstein
Didn't you turn make one of your GS Air tanks sub ohm? How did it work?
It worked good. I did .6 and .9ohm builds. I liked the .9 ohm better and ended up doin 1.1 to 1.2. ....I don't think you'll get a good enough wire connection in these coil heads to do temp control though.

Good Morning Air Heads!

Sorry I didn't post earlier, I was dealing with both of my parents this weekend who are in their 80's and life sort of gets in the way sometimes. (Hospital for emergency digestive tract surgery on one and shortness of breath with a fall for the other.) Being an only child can be rather overwhelming sometimes.
:glug:

Good News Part:
This morning I mailed off the GS Air-M and coil pack to it's new forever home. The turtles were all lined up at the Post Office with there little buggies behind them when I left, so it might take a couple of weeks to arrive.

Note to self for future... If it is not a Genny (I just love Genny's) or doesn't have a Kayfun, Orchid or Rose build deck then look again to see if the words Coil Head is in the description any where. If so, do not seek out such device, do not click add to cart... Just smile and wave, have another vape on the Rose and enjoy the device vicariously through those who love and use them. :)

I am just awaiting delivery of a second Rose V2 from a most excellent Hellboy & Marquis user!
I do love me the vape provided by the Rose. :vapor:

Extra C-Cups are on their way from Fasttech as well for them, so life is grand! As I will not be visiting this thread very often I'd like to leave one of my favorite Dropkick Murphys video's here for your listening pleasure. I'll see you all in the other threads!!

Enjoy!

:toast:

:toast: back atcha, your Trollness! Lovely to start the day with a wee bit of the ole Irish. Slainte!

Loved your post, welp, at least some of it. I'm so sorry to hear about the dilemmas with the parentals. I KNOW that story only too well. :( Hang in there, hon.

And aren't you just the sweetest of hearts to send your "M" on its own turtle ride! VERY cool. (;))

Enjoy your Roses and your Gennys. We'll miss you here, but I'm pretty sure we'll know where to find you.

Happy trails, @TrollDragon ...

Thanks, I'll unfold it and try again.
I'd already decided to take the one I did back apart and rewrap it, may try that again later tonight. I dislike poorly done jobs and they way it's wrapped now is pretty poor.
I used the 1/16" drill to wrap on, the coil is all the way down in the side channels on the base, the come out of the bottom of base where they come out and are snipped off with nail clippers. I don't see how my legs could be any shorter and work. I squeeze the coil together while I anneal it, there is space between my wraps but not much.

It's 2.6 now, I'll do the next one with 2 less wraps than the 7 this time. That should be 1.8ish. Maybe I am tensioning the wire during the wrap. Who knows. However I do, I'll get it down to 1.8-2.2. Even if 5 gets it to 1.5, that's the factory resistance.

One of your coils vaped every bit as nice as the factory one. The other rebuilt coil I could never get to read. <Puzzled>

Thanks for the tips and pics.

if you have a hard time getting a reading, pull the bottom pin and insulator down ever so slightly and gently to help make a better connection with the base.. I tend to squeeze them together, totally my bad!

let us know how your coiling is coming along!

It'll be interesting to see how Eleaf terminates the coil leads on their new TC heads for the GSA. More importantly, I hope they work well...

Well, one coil rebuild done though there were plot complications. It ain't pretty but I think it'll work.

Cheech, what is the brand of gauze you use and which Dollar store do you get it at? That was an issue for me, I had one pad of Assured brand. It just says gauze pad, not non woven guaze though. It made the wrap difficulter. There is an inner and outer layer of this pad of gauze them something in the middle. The gauze is so loosely weaved it falls apart if you breathe on it. Cheech, your gauze didn't have anything in the middle and it looked much stouter. I got it all back together and the soaker slits are all covered, I gather that's what's important with the wrap.

While I'd read I can use the Evod bases to Work with the GS coil to hold it, and I Did read you couldn't Ohms test it that way, it didn't sink in until I got a 0 ohm reading (testing on an Evod base) on my first perfectly good coil, Destroyed it taking it back apart, THEN it dawned on me. Grrr. Had to take one of my two full of juice MS apart to test the coil. It also read a little higher than I'd like but this is my first wrap with 30 Kanthal and I was a couple wraps high on the wrap number. Oh Well. (Per a reco to me I used 7 wraps of 30 on a 1/16" drill and ended up with about a 2.6 coil. It should still work though I guess.) This coil was a factory coil so I took out the dual coils, I wasn't about to try and rewick those.

I tried to use a meter to check the coil touching the center of the pin and the threads and the reading was too bogus to be right. Having to take apart one of my always in use two MS to check the Ohms on a rebuild is gonna be a PIA. I probably should get one of those coil meters. Where is the best, cheapest one?

I'll post back once I actually used this coil. I'm not trying the 2nd rebuild until I get better gauze.

Just a suggestion, but I would try using a 5/64" drill bit instead of the 1/16" as it would be just a shadow less than 2mm and should still fit inside the slots. The wider inside diameter will allow you to use more wicking material inside the coil. It should also be a little easier to mount the coil, as the drill bit should not shift around as much when placed in the slot. The slot is actually slightly wider than 2mm, but unfortunately it's the largest metric drill bit that I have and a 3/32" bit is too big. (5/64" = 1.98 mm)

Here's a set of charts that should help you determine how many wraps to use:

http://vapercoils.com/using-drill-bits-to-wrap-coils

The legs on an Air coil are pretty short, so the chart should get you fairly close to where you want to be, ohm wise.

I *almost* made the same mistake you did when I got no ohm reading with the Evod base.

PS: You could also use a multimeter to test the coil - with or without the Evod base -although it's a bit awkward to do at first. There's a vid on youtube somewhere, but just stick the positive lead into the hole of the coil's positive pin and hold the ground to the sidewall of the Evod base.

I rewrapped the one coil I did the poor wrap job on with the newly trimmed gauze, much better. I needed the nOOb cheat trick though and dampened the gauze, I'm not using them soon anyway.

Weirdest thing. I undid your rebuild one that I got the 0 on and wound another coil, did the rebuild all over. Still O. Both my Airs are back together now and I'm not messing with it anymore tonight. I never get shorts with my coils. Maybe that base is jinxed. I'll remember the don't push too hard on the pin part.
