This confuses me:

The filament, a nickel-chromium wire, was coupled to a thicker copper wire coated with silver. The silver coating was sometimes missing. Four tin solder joints attached the wires to each other and coupled the copper/silver wire to the air tube and mouthpiece

Coupled to a thicker copper wire coated with silver? Tin solder joints? I've never seen any of this in the gear I've used.

I understand them not listing the particular brands that they studied, but without that knowledge, its as if all of them are guilty when I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it is not the case.

All these studies seem to get preburnt or leaky prefilled carts. Not once have I ever had that happen either.

Tested items unnamed, perhaps old 2007 style cartridges. It's easier to scare people and avoid refutation if you don't id the products you claim have tin solder joints and bare copper wire in them.

Maybe they are using up the shipments the FDA seized. Might as well use them for something. ;)

Kinda shines a light on the potential harms from this "Mystry Metal" weve gotten so accustomed to , be it a solid , plate over another MM , or wire..as long as I dont taste it or it rub off on my lips i guess Ill not sweat it too much, there is about a 3/4 year cussion ahead of me of vapors who will show the signs of illness, and Ill hear them warn us

Here is the actual study. And below is a comment that matches some of my thoughts. I would add: what brands? How old? is this true of new cartos or do they change their chemical properties when they are kept in an FDA evidence locker for 3 years?

Most cartomizers are constructed along those lines - although I can't say that I've ever seen bare, exposed copper wire. The ones I've seen that used copper wire, had the copper wire coated so that it was isolated from any contact with the juice - never saw any where "The silver coating was sometimes missing.". Sounds to me like whoever they got theirs from removed the coating.
