Recently started vaping, but more than likely not for common reasons, perhaps so, but I've yet to meet someone with my type of story.

I had smoked cigarettes for a good year and a half before being introduced to an e-cig. Originally, I wasn't impressed, and it was the only "cigarette" type thing that made me cough, as it irritated my throat. So I continued using tobacco based cigarettes for a short while following. One day while at a friend's house, I caught their bronchitis, as we were doing illegal things, and shared a pipe. The illness lasted me a good two weeks, and then cleared, as far as the sickness goes. The phlegm produced, however, stayed for another week and disappeared. Occasionally I still get the phlegm, but only once every while, and really only one cough worth, close enough to normal. However, for a short few weeks, it wasn't normal, and that was when I had kicked up my smoking habits to deal with the oncoming stress I had from a new job. I was extremely scared. After research, actually heard about COPD and what it was for the first time, and noted the similarities to what I was experiencing. That was last week, and only this week did I learn I more than likely do not have COPD (10%ish chance I do, but its unlikely). My relief was so overwhelming, I decided then and there to not touch another tobacco product again. However, when I went to work the next day, after not smoking at all for a good twelve hours before, I freaked out. I couldn't handle the stress I found so easy to deal with when I was smoking, however I had made myself a promise. So, I looked for an alternative. Remembered that we sold e-cigarettes at the store I work for, and decided to give it a shot. Immediately, I felt so much calmer, and since I've started, I've yet to have a panic attack like the one I had. I don't have the light-headed feeling I got from cigarettes, and really it seems that I've been more productive and focused since starting using e-cigs as an alternative.

I had originally planned to quit smoking as a surprise for my partner, who is currently in Mexico for studies. I didn't plan on quitting until they returned, as they help me deal with stress and anxiety like no one else can, but due to my recent health scare, I felt better now than later.

Although I'm just starting, I'm already hooked. And I'm not even buying the good stuff yet, currently until my next pay check, I'm using Blu disposables, which apparently have a bad reputation, but its to hold me until I can purchase something a little more than what I have.

My purpose for joining the forum is to find others, to share my story, and to get advice.

Starting with: What e-cig should I get?

My preferences are the shorter, cigarette-esque types, and I like portability.
I also work eight hours most days, with chances to smoke every two hours, 3 chances in total, for about 15 minutes, 1 hour, and 15 minutes at a time. I need a brand that can last that long, provide a good experience, and isn't bulky, or ugly. Amount of vapor, more is better in my opinion, but I can deal with a decent amount just fine.

Does that bring anything to mind? If so, I'd love to get your take on what my first real e-cig should be.

What you state as your preference is what we call a cigalike or stick batteries. I understand your desire for this, I was like that when I started. However, as an experienced vapor I can tell you that the majority of us eventually and quickly abandon those for something a little larger and more satisying. How do you feel about something about the size of a cigar instead? I'm just trying to save you some time and money in the long run for the likely and inevitable upgrade from the cigalikes in a month or two.

The above pics are of an eGo e-cig. These are a class of battery, not a particular brand. Brand names would be like Vision Spinner or Joyetech Twist. They are rechargeable, and for someone with your vaping habits would likely last you all day between charges. The stick batteries would last you only 3 - 4 hours between charges, requiring several batteries to last you all day. The last pic is a size comparison between a cigarette, two stick batteries, and three eGo type batteries (650 mAh, 900 mAh, and 1300 mAh).

This link shows what I and most experienced vapors would recommend for your first e-cig setup: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...06-4-good-starters-setup-beginning-vapor.html It has the recommended batteries, suggestions for juice delivery devices, tips on e-juice, and a demo video. These eGo batteries are sold by most online e-cig vendors and brick & mortar vape shops.

For additional information of the juice delivery devices available, here is a picture dictionary of the more common types along with videos on how they are used and filled. (1) Proper terminology - Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A primer on Juice Delivery Attachments. - Blogs - E-Cigarette Forum

Looking back at the math it's easy to see that you can get a eGo VV type batt, a couple tanks, 5 heads, and enough juice to last a week+ for $50 bucks. That's 5 blu's. Blues are a great step in but the step should never last longer than how long it takes you to decide that the whole vaping thing can take place of analogs. Everyone is different but it took me less than 24 hours to figure it out.

I have considered the larger, more powerful vape systems, however in my area, those are usually viewed more for the use of drugs, and people generally react as such, regardless of the actual product it contains.

An unfair assumption, but that's people in my area, uneducated. For the time being, cigalikes are actually accepted, and somewhat popular, though usually with the underage smokers. Currently I have a Envy NirVana ordered to get used to a non-disposable, but as far as cigalikes go, what is generally accepted as the best brand?

Hi Sane, welcome! I'm new to e-cigs too, and I also have reservations about purchasing a device to use publicly like the eGo shown above for the same type of reasons. (Although I really would love to have one for home!)

Since I'm new to all this, I don't have a lot of experience with other brands to compare, but I started with and reeeally like Apollo e-cigs. I have the Apollo Extreme and love it... the "Extreme" is the battery size (with the cartomizer, it's longer like a "100" type of cigarette,) and it typically lasts me all day on one charge. I was impressed with the throat hit, flavor, and vapor production... to me, it felt almost like the real thing.

I liked it so much, I ordered a pack of refillable cartomizers and some Tobacco and Clove e-liquid when the cartomizers my kit came with ran out. LOVE the clove, I really missed smoking the occasional Djarum Black after the clove cig ban.

Hi Sane, If you must have a slim battery model, the new(er) Joyetech eRoll kit has many good reviews ( Joye eRoll Electronic Cigarettes, Starter Kits & Accessories by Joyetech ) , and even from long time vapers.... This kit includes a nice little Personal Charging Case (PCC) and two batteries and a couple atomizers. They are the tank type system which many folks get along with well, but they do require some manner of getting adjusted to. I personally am not a huge fan of the tank system these ues but there are adaptors available to use with 510 cartomizers.

My second recommendation would be the good old Kr808d ( Smokeless Image | The Best Electronic Cigarette ) and these are pretty much considered the best performing slim unit. I have used this type and can say that it does outperform any of my 510 models that I started with. If you do choose this battery option I would suggest their PCC for charging while you are at work. That way you will always have a charged and ready solution.

These are my recommendations IF you can not justify having the on hand power of an eGo type battery. If you can I advise you to go with and eGo type kit, but like you said you may have some 'ejumakatin' to do with those folks around you who have no Idea that there are other alternatives to those not-so-great performing slim models. Keep in mind that those folks who have had bad experiences with Personal Vaporizers have only tried the cheap gas-station slim models, and never anything other than that........ Those are all those folks shouting from the rooftops that E-cigs don't "work" whilst they are still puffing away on their traditional cigarettes......
