Embarrassed but courageous

Some of my newbie questions and observations seem to sound so idiotic after I write them I'm always afraid what the mentors in here might be thinking about my level of intelligence ... But here goes anyway .. When I smoked analogs and for the full month that I've been vaping I used the 'straw sipping' type of inhale,in other words the analog smoke or vape inhale first was in my mouth ,then inhaled or french inhaled .

After reading the term (I think it was lung hit or lung draw, I tried inhaling more like I imagine a scuba diver takes in oxygen and pulled straight in to my lungs. I was amazed that this method decreases by several seconds the need to keep the firing button ignited, it produces I do believe at least half again more cloud, and it seems my penstyle unit is cooler overall and on clearos with transparent mouthpieces it was also noticed a lot less condensation moisture which I had gotten used to 'snapping' the pen to clear it ... Is it possible in fact that 'lung hits' are better overall for vaping units overall ventilation and performance ?

In fact I was not using a large 5ml clearo I had purchased because it seemed to work and often suddenly 'balk' or reduce operating through a complete fill ... tonight with the lung draw in method it performed flawlessly through the complete 5ml and as with my other pyrex clearo produced much more cloud . I hope somebody in here knows what i mean because I'm already feeling foolish for mentioning this observation ....

I think I know what you mean. And I think that's what I do... lol.
And I know how you feel... I've got a thread started just a few minutes ago that I feel stupid for even asking about.

I started just like that.For the first 2-3 months of vaping i was doing the same,drawing into my mouth then inhaling,because when i smoked,that's how i always did it.Like you i kept seeing people mention lung inhales,so i got curious and tried it.I haven't paid attention to equipment staying cooler,but i can definitely say the clouds are alot bigger,and just the overall sensation you get from the nicotine improves alot this way too.

I definitely prefer lung hitting. They produces much more vapor than a cigarette type inhale and I enjoy the flavor more. Depending on how tight of a draw some clearos have though it's possible to flood the chamber if you take too long of a lung hit or if it doesn't wick efficiently you may get a bit of a dry hit at the end.

Nothing stupid in this to me, in fact I would say it is the same learning curve we all faced in the beginning.

Although, I do still do the mouth to lung inhale while at my desk using a Kayfun. I do this to stealth vape so I don't have to go hang out with the folks smoking the stinkies... But I too have found I prefer the direct lung hit when it is an option.

Good luck and remember this, as long as your not on the stinkies, it doesn't matter

There's no such thing as a stupid question. Ask away without fear.

Doing a direct lung inhale can pull a lot more air over the coil than doing a mouth inhale, because, well, your lungs are bigger than your mouth is! This will result in a lot more vapor creation (assuming your coil and wick can keep up!). It will also keep your clearos cooler.

That's funny you mentioned SCUBA I think is exactly why I prefer lung hits. After so many years breathing off regulators underwater it just feels natural and is the way I vape. Not stupid at all.

It all depends on what your lungs can tolerate. If you don't have any problems with it, then why worry about it? Vape it however you like it.

Folks seem to wayyyyyyy-overthink all of this. Your lungs actually can't absorb the nicotine from vapor very well, your mouth/throat/nasal-sinus passages do a much better job, but if there's that much more vapor, it probably evens out.

There is no such thing as asking a silly question here. We were all new at one time and we remember how nice people were to us here. That is what ecf is all about. Learning and helping others so don't ever hesitate to ask a question. I personally have always gotten the whole inhalation thing confused. Every time I read something I think maybe I am doing it wrong. But you know what? Whatever I am doing is working pretty darn well so I just don't worry about it any more. I vape exactly the way I smoked and I enjoy each and every toot. You should also. Enjoy and have fun here on ecf. For me it was, Throat hit.... 35 years of smoking, Never heard of wanting a throat hit. And once I understood what it was, something I would, tend to avoid as a smoker. I still can't understand the desire for it. Burnt throat was usually a sign of too much smoking or a health issue. Or very bad cheap street corner tobacco.

For those who really enjoy TH, it's probably because the cigarettes they smoked left a significant tingle in the mouth and throat, and without it -- like if they smoked a cigarette much weaker than their usual -- it's just not satisfying. I have to have TH even in my Strawberries and Cream vape, because without it, no matter how much nicotine/WTA is in it, it's not satisfying; it's the difference between unsweetened colored water and strong sweet tea.

In general, increasing draw pressure and volume when vaping and when smoking produce opposing results. When smoking an increased draw feeds the combustion reaction more oxygen producing a thicker and hotter hit. With vaping increasing the draw pulls more air over the coils producing a more airy and cooler hit.

The only kind of "smoking" in which throat hit or lung hit were a part, that I was aware of, previously, was the kind, that we are not allowed to discuss on this site. To this day, 6 months after starting to vape, I still can't get a throat hit from a Marlboro or a cigar, unless I LUNG hit it. But who does that in real life.

I never lung hit cigarettes either, only that other stuff. But my Virginia Slims Ultra-Lights gave excellent throat hit -- I tried every brand of ultra-lights I could find, and most of them were like smoking air... but VS ultra-lights had great TH, for such a light cigarette. Amazing to me, when I started vaping, that my e-cig gave me even better TH, and DIDN'T make me cough! Coughing is why I had to switch from Lights to Ultra-Lights originally, but without TH, the satisfaction just wasnt' there -- like smoking air. Which made the swtch from tobacco to vapor pretty easy for me, with the great TH I got from MyFreedomSmokes' Virginia.

as mentioned earlier - no question is a foolish one! there's loads to learn when it comes to vaping, I pick up new info every day and Ive been vaping for over a year now.

I still have to remind myself to do a lung inhale but its dependent on which tank i'm using, some tanks have loose draws (so you can lung inhale) and some are more suited to mouth to lung. Its fun trying out both and to mix it up, try exhaling from nostrils

Kinda funny how we all find our preference in vaping and how much thought we put into it when most of us never thought all that much about our smoking beyond if we liked a stronger cigarette or lighter, menthol or non. I smoked for 33 years and never put as much thought into smoking as I do my vape.

I dunno, I really did try EVERY ultra-light brand I could find, and none of them satisfied, so I tried out the ultra-lights of the cigarettes I already smoked the Lights of (Virginia Slims) and bang, satisfaction, great TH, and didn't even have to get used to a different flavor -- those VS ultras didn't really have a lot of flavor, but excellent TH! I also, in recent years, had to put a GREAT deal of thought into AFFORDING to smoke! So I actually did put a fair amount of thought into smoking, too -- a lot of it was thoughts of how I really needed to quit, but just couldn't, so naturally when I discovered e-cigs, I was absolutely delighted!
