If you use clear or light colored eliquid with the EMDCC's or the mega clear 510 cartos, have you noticed that after 3 - 4 days of use, the eliquid develops a darker color in spots? I was told by a supplier that this is due to the heating coil becoming dirty and changing the color. I use a VV model and vape between 4.5v - 4.8v.

Do you agree with this assessment and when you see this (assuming you do), do you ditch the carto and start using a new one?

I think it's mostly caused by e-liquid becoming discolored by the heat. It happens especially with sweet juices (caramelizing). I have one juice that would just about go black after a few fills. I don't think it's really problematic, but it kind of creeps me out.

I don't really use clear cartomizers with filler in them if I can avoid it :)

I used a clear carto for the first time recently and noticed the color of the filler getter dark and a small area was looking black. My initial reaction was, "oh no, it's getting moldy!". Now I'm seeing that it's most likely a caramelization of the juice and I'm still using this carto. Still kind of wondering if juice can get moldy in a carto though. :)

I do like the clear carto and being able to see what is happening to the juice as you fill it.

Darker juice does look a bit nasty after a couple days. My clear juice gets a little yellowish. I continue to use it if it tastes OK.

The clear are really easy to clean though if you want to give it a shot. Just put it on the battery and wiggle it back and fort to take the cover off. Unwind the batting, rinse in hot water. The coils and two little diaper thingies I dip in a cup of hot water. Dab dry and re-roll. You can really reuse it right away.

I guess this is the "I'd really rather not know, method", lol.

Thanks for the recommendation but I'd rather just throw it out than do that. I don't mind getting only 4 -5 days use out of a carto and replacing it, it's the wasting of the eliquid that bothers me.

There are a few reasons for that. The first is what has already been mentioned with how the color changes due to it being heated. The other is that the longer a juice is exposed to air then that can change the color as well. EDIT: It's a combination of both that are making the juice darker.

Lastly, if it gets really dark at the bottom or near the area where the coils are located then that can mean that the "diapers" and/or filling material has been burnt. But, you will taste or smell it most of the time.
