Hi everyone my first real time in this section as im usually happy with my regulateds but have had the thought lately what if it all goes wrong and bans and restrictions hit I will need something dependable and reliable which bought mechs to mind. https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10011954/2014300-ivogo-dimitri-style-mechanical-box-mod is the one im leaning towards for the following reasons, its a true mechanical as far as my hurried research can tell meaning even I can maintain it and obtain spares for it. Box mod format is what I prefer now odd trouble with hands sometimes made tube mods a bit hard to hold so that requirement is more practical then aesthetic and the above mod looks like it would be easy to work with in terms of maintaining and cleaning then tube mods. I will be using builds between the 1.4-1.8ohm range lemos and subtanks so don't need something massively efficient and only batteries I use are Sammy 25r's so with the practical needs as iI said this seems ideal.

Is there anything I'm missing in regard to this mod sadly funds are very limited so im limited to the clone end of the market but as I said never dealt with mechanicals so there might be something I am missing in my considerations that many of you will be able to point out and explain and whilst this is unlikely to replace my regulateds day to day if I do use it I want to be safe for both my self and anyone else around me. I do have a ohms metre to ensure coils are functional and working and understand it, just anything about the mod itself I'm not seeing or missing. Thank you for any help provided it is appreciated :).

Thanks for that first link is the one I'm looking at I did look at the dovpo but I want no electronics they are the weakest part of my regulateds IMO and if restrictions do come in replacing just a circuit board could be problematic. Basically I want a mod that's as simple as me and thats setting the bar low :).

Really, if you want something in which parts are plentiful, the mech tube mods are more of the way to go. A lot of their parts are interchangeable when it comes to the adjustable pins, springs, magnets, tubes, etc.

I'm not familar with the box mod you mentioned, but it might be the same. It is very pretty that is for sure. I kind of want one now.

Mechs are great. They'll run forever. My oldest mech is a Tree of Life clone that is over a year old and runs just like that day I got it. It was my only mod for months and has been used and abused. It has had a few simple repairs (tightening the the screw on the switch, cleaning copper contacts). Mech can be dunked in water (will mess up your battery for sure and you'll need a new one, but they aren't outlawing re-chargeable batteries lol), dropped, abused, and they'll still work. Especially those stainless steel ones. Those can be buried and dug up 3000 years later and will probably still work and look like new.

If you really want to be on the safe side, get that box and maybe a stainless steel tube clone. You can usually pick up a nice SS tube mod for $10-15.

I'm a mech lover. I was vaping back when the regulated devices were not up to par yet and fell in love with them then. Still use them now. They'll survive the next ice age let alone the vapocalypse.

I know you say you vape at 1.4-1.8ohm.... But what wattage do you vape that at??? You do realize the Mech will ONLY put out the power available based on battery voltage. You will not be able to run above or below the NATURAL wattage of the coil. So you will be limited to max wattage o 12.5 with the 1.4 ohm at 4.2 volts dowm to a minimum of the 1.8ohm @ say 3.5volts of 6.8 watts. If you are used to vaping the 1.8ohm coil at 10 watts or more forget it. Not knock the mech its what I use. Just thinking you might want to consider a Kick with your mech, so that it can be used more like your used to.

I vape usually at 20 watts but realise I may have to adjust coils to better suit the mech, point I was making was I'm not looking to sub ohm with the mech which should make things a little easier. Thanks for that erazzz but hands sometimes have trouble gripping tubes that's why I switched to box mods easier for me to hold and as reliable as mechs are drop them enough and damage will happen lol. This will only really be used if I'm no longer able to use regulateds as I said emergency in case things go bad and looking at the pictures there were no parts in it I would struggle to get if they wore out or something else went wrong. Just in the process of budgeting and getting the kit I need to stay tobacco free if vaping gets too badly hit with legislation that said there are some really nice looking tube mods if only I was a bit younger :).

Yeah, you'll want to go down closer to 1 ohm using a mech.

I agree some of the tube mechs might be better for obtaining spare parts. You can get anything for a Stingray.

Gus Mods are pretty reasonable for authentics, and plenty of spare parts. Unlike many modders, they have their own machine shop so are able to provide that support.

You have it backwards.
If you use a mech at 4 volts, and want to vape at 20 watts, you HAVE to wrap a subohm coil.
That is the reason people use sub ohm coils in the first place - low voltage.

I realize that funds are limited, but if there is anything you can sell, or cash in for bday or Christmas etc, I would also second a Reo like bruce said. I knew that I wasn't going to drip.......just too much of a pain for me. So when I started gearing up for vapocalypse, I knew the only mech I wanted would be a Reo so I could just squonk and have fresh juice. Dripping from the bottom. And you can't kill these things.....many have tried lol One guy forgot and left his on top of his car. When he got home he found it, it had been run over in the street several times. I think he had to get a new atty, not sure, maybe a door, but it still worked! Another guy dropped his while mowing, ran it over with the lawn mower.......still worked! You can sometimes get blemished ones a little cheaper. With the new 510 and sub ohm contacts on em.......they can't be beat.

Thanks for all the replies has been very helpful I have tried a REO friend has a few of them as that's all he uses and I didn't get on with it. As I said I know I will have to alter the coils I build to better suit a mech and how I'll have to change I'll find out when I get one will experiment with it a bit to find my sweet spot.
