Emily's Post finally returns

It's been months since she ignited a fervor with her two articles. This one is a bit lame-

She still doesn't seem to get that the FDA can regulate it as a tobacco product which immediately puts regulations on the products and a framework to work within. It also makes sales to minors illegal.

The point that Maureen Busalacchi seems to miss is that e-cigarettes are not intended to be a "smoking cessation" product. Clearly when the FDA and other opponents of e-cigarettes say "smoking cessation," what they really mean is "nicotine cessation." The majority of e-cigarette users have no desire to be "cured" of their nicotine use. They just want a less harmful way of taking in nicotine than inhaling smoke. We already have 7 years of past history to draw on showing that there have been no instances of e-cigarettes causing any serious adverse events. Furthermore, surveys conducted over the past two years find over 90% of users reporting that their health has improved. It has been estimated that smoking for 30 more days and then quitting all use of nicotine will do more damage to health than switching to a smokeless tobacco product and using it for the rest of one's life. It's the smoke, not the nicotine, that is the clear and present danger to health.

BTW, Emily, nice article. Thanks for listening with an open mind.

But I still have concerns, as I would with any untested product that delivered doses of a highly addictive drug. I must listen to that doubt, but also to people who say e-cigarettes have improved their lives.

What she is still failing to recognise is that just because PG can be used as an anti-freezing agent doesn't make that it's primary use, no more than milk powder's primary use is to be an ingredient in an incendiary device. I can think of many, many uses for PG that would easily come before it's ability to retain it's liquidity at less than zero degrees Celsius.

The article, as bland as it is, did show up in the hard copy of Isthmus Magazine on Thursday. I was certainly hoping for more extensive investigative reporting. Emily is way over her head on this one.

That was my take to Stubby. I kept track of her posts for about two months expecting some real reporting, instead we got, well, what we got. When I read it I wondered if that was an abbreviated version of what went to hard copy. Now you've affirmed it wasn't.
