The reverse Taryn Spin is a good way to get the juice out if you want to save it but you said that it was nasty so you'll still have some of that nasty juice in there. I just rinse under hot water, blowing the water out and rinsing again. I keep doing that until there is no color when I blow the water out on a paper towel. Then I run a little vodka through it and rinse and blow again and then let dry for a couple days. You can speed the drying process by putting them in a corning dish or pan and put them in your oven set at 175 degrees for 1 hr. Then they are ready to refill. DO NOT put plastic cartos in the oven needless to say.
Well I managed to figure something out using a combination of methods. (I do realize that spending so much time trying to revitalize a dumb disposable carto is kind of a giant waste of time, but it was my very first DIY and only had 3 cartos to start with, and shipping seems to take years when you're checking the mailbox daily for new ones to arrive )
I did the spin method using a lanyard thingie meant for a laminated badge. It has a very strong aligator-like clip and I just clipped it to the threads and went to town.
Step 2 was to soak it in vodka for 1 hour.
Then I boiled the carto for 5 mins, ran it under cold water to rinse it and repeated this 4x. (at this point I couldnt let the carto win, so I was fully committed)
My last step was to take my air compressor and blow the heck out of it. This part was rather fun since it makes a crazy satisfying mist that shoots across the garage.
After all of this nonsense, I brought it back in the house and filled it up with some chocolate figuring that even if I could still taste it, it would at least blend properly.
What do you know, it worked... Kinda. There was still a faint hint of the wintergreen but after filling and refilling, it eventually became quite unnoticed.
This was only used for a few more days until my clearomizers arrived.
