OK, so I guess it's been a bit more than a week since I've gotten more serious about slowing my Marlboro consumption to a trickle. Haven't yet gone (or really tried to go) a day without one. But yesterday it was just five. Without punishing myself with ultimata to quit, I do think I have now gone through each major smoking phase of my typical day without tobacco. I just haven't done them all in the same day.
But today seems to have brought both a victory and a discovery. My favorite smoking phase of the day (like a lot of people here, I suspect) is my 1-2 hour early morning coffee and computer time. Earlier on, one thing that kept me from starting off the day with a vape instead of a Marlboro was the constriction in my early-morning airway. It was just too uncomfortable to vape anything strong enough to satisfy without first clearing things out with a cigarette or three. But apparently enough days of my decreased smoking have passed that I'm starting to feel a major benefit: I can now vape comfortably first thing in the morning! There are, of course, other respiratory improvements, but to me this one is definitely on the list. So I had my first smokeless early morning phase, and in fact didn't have my first cigarette until lunchtime (and those two, only because I'm still self-conscious about vaping in public).
This led to another discovery as I vaped pretty steadily on my 40-minute drive to work, and felt great doing so: the combination of smoking and vaping too close together in time affects me up rather fiercely. (And I can almost hear the collective "Well, duh!"
)
So taking it as a given that smoking was messing up my health, I'm starting to realize it's been messing up my vaping.
