My "travel" set up has been on the fritz lately so I have been using my Provari in the car. It has been getting awefully cold out there while I'm at work and I have been getting a wierd code on my Provari.

After leaving it in my car for 8 hours or so, a couple of times I get an error code 3. This says the unit is too hot and to let it cool down, but let's be honest there is no way it is too hot. I have a feeling it is because of the battery. I currently have 3 short batteries in rotation and maybe one of them is bad?? I have only gotten the error code twice in the last week, so it doesn't happen all the time.

Any thoughts?:glare:

Yes, check the ProVape website and download the MANUAL.

Mark the battery the next time you get the code and monitor the situation to see if it's only a single battery that does it.

Ahhh great idea, go to the manual. Oops I already did and it said an error code 3 was the thermal monitor and to let it cool down.

Any thoughts whether this is a battery issue or a provari issue? I'm leaning toward a battery issue.

The battery could have been just too cold.
The batteries we use have an operating discharge temperature range rating, something around -10C ~ 60C
(14F ~ 140F).
When the battery temp is near or below the low end of the temp range they can't supply the current necessary which trips the Provari's thermal protection circuitry.

Folks think thermal protection as high temp only, but, that aint so.
A frozen or below operating temp battery isn't capable of the normal internal exchange that takes place in the operating temp range to produce x V's or x A's at a rapid enough pace to keep up with high drain demands.

I have to agree with topwater elvis here. The battery was simply too cold. I work early mornings, way before the sun comes out, so I see plenty of the cold, and have gotten the same e3 error code time to time. Any time that I've had this happen to me I just pop the battery out and put it in a pocket closer to my body to get some of my body warmth, give it a quick minute and you're good to go. No need to start throwing out batteries.
