I have recently introduced vaping to my girlfriend. I actually baught her an e-ciggy. My concern is that she is not a smoker or nicotine user. Now she vapes her 0 nic juice with me all night as we hang out and loves it. Have I turned her potentially into an analog smoker if the FDA bans these little techno smokes of ours?

Your thoughts?

Hmmmm, that's a tough one to answer since the addiction for most of us doesn't stop with the nicotine, the oral fixation is a big part of it, and for some the actual smoke. If she becomes addicted to the oral fixation, she could find something else to suck on :), the smoke part might be a bit more difficult. She isn't gaining the nicotine addiction, that is a plus IMHO.

All in all, she made the choice to take up vaping, so I wouldn't say it was unethical on your part. She could have taken up smoking as well, I tried for years to get my first husband to quit and eventually started smoking (can't beat 'em, join 'em mentality).

Be optimistic, hopefully they won't get banned. Would you honestly stop using them if they did? I know I will find a way to keep using them. I'm not one to break the law, but I guess I would become a rebel in this case. :) I do not want to go back to analogs.

At this time, vaping should be for smokers only. The fact that your GF took up vaping as a non-smoker plays right into the hands of the anti-smoking establishment that also believes that candy cigarettes and fruity flavors will entice kids, non-smokers and ex-smokers to smoke. While I do not see an ethical problem with this, it does not help the cause for those of us that wish to retain the right to vape instead of sucking on analogs and joining the 400,000 folks who will die from smoking related problems this year.

That said, your GF is free to do as she pleases. She can choose to drink, buy a car, vote, invest her money, get married, bear children, etc. So she certainly has a right to vape if she so chooses.

I think it's a stupid move. I've tried many times to quit smoking and the e-cig is the only thing that worked. That being said, I still feel ......ed for wasting so much money on something that has zero benefits. I think it was a bad move on your part, but since she isn't smoking anything addictive there is plenty of time to quit. I see it as throwing away money. But to each their own.

Why did you buy her an e-cig when she didn't smoke?]
That's what the FDA is cracking down on.

Yes, you turned her into an analog smoker.

What a stupid ..........

Whoa guys. Lighten the hell up! Here you are fighting to have the right to use an e-cig and then you turn around and tell someone they don't have the right to because they weren't a smoker to begin with?

Remember the first time you were told you weren't allowed to smoke someplace because some righteous crusader decided they should be allowed to tell you what to do?

Talk about hypocrisy. And enough with the personal insults. If you want everyone who uses a PV to be held to a higher standard when it comes to personal behavior, the same should be held for you as well.

Your GF won't have to resort to analogs as long as:
1. You can still get PV parts (whether imported, homemade, or otherwise)
2. PG/VG and flavorings are not banned = DIY 0mg nic juices

Your responsibility is to make sure she is aware that PVs are not proven to be a safe alternative to smoking and educate her insofar as she is able to make her own informed choice.

Personally I think it's kind of cool that she's willing to share something with you that means so much to you. You couldn't ask for better person than that.

That said, whatever floats her boat - and yours. ;)

As far as her becoming an analog smoker, I doubt that'll happen even if ecigs do get banned. A lot of us who have vaped for any length of time no longer like the taste or smell of a real cig - yuck! I'm not saying it can't or won't ever happen but I just can't imagine a 0-nic vaporer toking on a Malrboro red for the sake of puffing on a stick just to blow smoke.

On the other hand if you catch her eying a new fog machine for the family room you might want to start worrying ;)

Right on, Laynies! Thank you for injecting some reason and decency into the discussion...

My initial reaction to this reminds me of few weeks ago regarding certain youngone who wants to try be cool by 0nic vaping, and a lot of us tried to talk some sense to him.

True, 0mg juice means she probably doesn't have nic addiction - but the oral fixation might be a little bit of an issue. Hopefully, if things do go south, she won't turn into a smoker.

Ethical, or unethical... well, it all comes down to one thing. It's a matter of a choice, and it's her choice to either smoke or not smoke. We all had choice when the most of us, if not all, chose to smoke, and some of us still do. If she choose to smoke because she can't get over her oral fixation - then you are partially guilty of that sense. But it's her choice, really.

Due to current general consensus regarding smoking and vaping all toghether still lies beneath me, so I can't help myself really to say "avoid vaping if you can" - even though it's theoretically to say that vaping is safer than analogs. So there's my answer. I personally think it's a wrong doing, but not to the extent to an unethical behavior worth charging someone for.... yet. However, my opinion, really doesn't matter. Because opinion is like you know what... everybody has one. ;)

I have just addressed this issue with her and she has made it perfectly clear that she can not resist those candy cigarettes. ;) Trust me fellow vapors, the ONLY REASON I started this thread is to PROVE that this is RIDICULOUS. My girl is working on her PHD at one of the most prestigious medical schools in the world:)))

The FDA is monitoring this site and these posts are going to find their way to the House and Senate. Am I the only one who is wondering about his girlfriends age?

Since when did the FDA start monitoring this site? Do you have proof? We are working so hard to get these people to read our damn emails and letters and you think this thread is going to change the movement??

I think it's time for everyone to wake up and realize what's happening in the world outside this forum. Did you know these devices are being used in high school cafeterias? And being allowed?

I was informed of this by my son who goes to high school in NY. He's seen it.

I think a lot of people here are running the risk of being too insular in their views. Teenagers will use these. I guarantee they will find a way, just like they find a way to get cigarettes, drugs and have sex. If you think you can prevent it, you are deluding yourself.

And you know what? Knowing that fact, I will do everything I can to keep these things legal because if it's a choice between a marlboro or a 901 for a teen, I'll choose the 901.

Sorry for the rant but I got a little torqued by this.
