Probably traces back to a Rapex warning, issued back in spring 2011 (here #18). Rapex is a database where regulatory and customs authorities from around the EU report any kind of product seizures, withdrawals and recalls. This product (and also # 15 in linked document) was ordered to be seized essentially due to having a wrong plug, a plug not according to UK standards. Don’t know, but the quoted Yorkshire official might appear a bit late on the party. Just took him about one year to digg the garbage bin. Maybe, he was just in desperate need of some alarming headline to justify his existence.
