Ever buy or get sold vape stuff that was for the incorrect application?

I was excited to get get some new coils today, went to the closest vape store. They didn't have many coils there. The guy was really nice, but both of us didn't really seem to know what type of coil I was trying to find. I use a sub ohm, my preference seems to be .3 ohms at 55watts. He sold me a roll of some fused clapton 28ga*2+32ga wire. I don't even know what that means, and some premade coils of the same gauge. I trust people at vape stores cause usually theyre super knowledgeable, but these coils are for .9 ohm. Too high for sub ohm vaping at 55 watts. I tried to use it but the voltage was going over 6 volts, and it barely fired and tasted like anything when I lowered it to 25 watts.

He actually gave me half off of all of it, 15ft of wire and 4 coils, cotton in a battery holder for $7.50 so I don't really care, I guess it's about the price for the amount of cotton that came with it. Gonna go get the right coils tomorrow, luckily I did have some other spares.

Just felt like sharing, has anything like this ever happened to any of you? Lol

I think that it's all part of the vape store experience, as it seems a lot of staff seem to know little if anything for the majority.

But sounds as though you got sold Kanthal wire and coils, as Kanthal has a high resistance.

You may find this link useful for wire @Mediocre00Rebel.

Other than that, there's a few manufacturers that sell complex wire spools and coils.

Vandy Vape
Wotofo
Thunderhead Creations
Coilology

Your probably best getting them online as there will be more choice.

Hey thank you. I'll check it out. Also I know a guy at another shop, he is a part owner and he himself is a vape enthusiast. I guess I got spoiled lol. He helped me put together my current sub ohm configuration, showed me how to set it up and everything. He knows all the best stuff, so I bet he'll know exactly what I need. Theres another guy I met who works there was also very knowledgeable. First vape shop I went to, I guess I took it for granted. Would be awesome if all shops were like that. He's thrown freebies at me a couple times too which is also cool.

What kind of wire is the spool? (Kanthal/KA1, Nichrome/N80, or Stainless Steel (SS316L maybe?))

Is this wire for the Arbiter 2?
Dual coils?

With the spooled wire you can dial in your resistance/wattage range somewhat by using different inner diameters and number of wraps.

For example, if the wire is Kanthal and you're using dual coils, a 3mm inner diameter 5 wrap pair could come in at around 0.35 ohms and might give you a wattage range of 67 - 135. (using the Vape Tool app coil calculator which isn't usually spot on for me but gets you in the ballpark)

I'm also more used to seeing a greater separation of wire gauge for fused Claptons (say 26ga*2+36ga instead of the 28ga*2+32ga that you were able to get).
Not that that is bad though.

The 28ga*2 are two strands of 28ga wire which are the core wires and the 32ga is the outer wrap or wire that encloses the core.

ok!!! Very helpful, thank you. I'm beggining to understand this better now. So can just do maybe like a 3 wrap dual coil build and it'll put me at like .3 ohms. Ok so dual coils is lower ohms when a single coil registers higher. Cool.

Dual coils come in 2 varieties, parallel and series.

Parallel you divide the resistance by the number of coils.

Series you add the resistances together.

Most though are parallel.

But the thing you'll really have to consider when building for any atomiser is the heat capacity of the coils used. As the more mass the coil/coils have, the much hotter it gets.

And if you haven't got enough airflow, it gets really bad really quickly.
