The chip makers seem to be a lot more expeditious with samples. Those I often receive in a few days. I've ordered tantalum SMD samples from Kemet several times and they also take a while to show up. I actually like Kemet tantalum products better. They seem to be a little cheaper when you need to buy them. I also use their SMD MLCCs a lot, but they're actually more expensive. I like the Kemet ones because they only use the higher grade dielectrics which improves temperature tolerance and efficiency.

I've been building this evercool circuit since BigBlue started this thread.....I used the caps on the first one I built, have built about 10 of them since WITHOUT the caps, and have had ZERO problems whatsoever. So yes, you CAN do it and it DOES work just like it should.

Heres that same 18650 box from eBay, a guy over at VF built these with the EVERCOOL circuit in them.

thanks for the prompt response, retird and java_az.... as for the capacitor issue, will the ESR rating have any effect?

I have built the evercool with aluminum elect....caps and tant....caps and both work great.....tant....caps are smaller....

Exactly retird,

Tantalum is an Electrolytic capacitor. (Wikipedia)
There are two types of electrolytics; aluminum and tantalum.
The tantalum capacitor is a highly reliable type of solid capacitor or electrolytic capacitor. Surface mount tantalum capacitors are increasingly being used in circuit designs because of their volumetric efficiency, basic reliability and process compatibility.
