Assuming the chip inside really is proprietary joyetech and not one of the sx3x0 series chips, I can say from experience with my original evic that joyetech does add and change features and abilities in firmware upgrades. In the last 2 versions of the original evic they added the ability to have ohms and voltage on the screen, and from watching video's of the first firmware they changed how a user enters vv and vw modes (made it simpler in later firmwares)

So that's all good news for you guys. I'm just waiting for somebody like PBUSARDO to review the thing and check the output. I'd really like to have one, but after having a dna - I just wouldn't want to go backwards. ya know.....

I emailed the guy a couple days before I got mine and he replied his was on the way... Review should come soon.

With my first evic I tried an rba i think the new one out at the time was one of the aga t2. Was fine for a few months then after one build I got the attomizer short and it never went away. I don't know for sure but I was afraid I caused the short. Very interested in getting into that again do these batteries have enough protection that I should kill one again? That was a $80 dollor mistake I wouldn't like to repeat.

Yea surprised I haven't lost mine yet also... G to the joyetech site and contact them with your suggestions.

Good idea, unfortunately whenever I add my suggestion text, it says "input contains illegal characters" and proceeds to erase everything lol! Anyone got an email for suggestions to joyetech? Thanks.

    Hello,

I bought the eVic Supreme and really like it except for a few things. The features and specs are great but I'd like less sharp edges on the tube. My main suggestions are for the software, it would be really great if you could improve and release a new firmware:

-Adjust wattage by 0.5 watt per step instead of 0.1. Or even better:

-Each ring "click" increases the step up value if click follows faster than 0.5 seconds and in the same direction. Values would be like 0.1 watt, 0.4 watt, 0.5 watt, 0.5 watt. E.g. 1 click adjusts by 0.1 watt, 2 quick clicks increase by 0.5 watts, 3 quick clicks increase by 1 watt, 4 quick clicks increase by 1.5 watt. Remove auto scrolling with 3 quick clicks.

-Ability to disable each of the different fields to have the display less cluttered

-Ability to quickly lock the device with 5x + 1 click (there is some kind of weird delay there)

-If possible, increase brightness on the display. The OLED on my Seven-22 is way brighter.

-a 510 connection replacement with adjustable center pin?

-Also it would be awesome if you would release an addon "plate" that allows mounting the evic control head and battery tube side by side to make it more stable and have more of a "box mod" form factor. This would be an easy to make and awesome extension for you to make:

    Kind Regards,

Thanks for the address, we'll see :) I've also seen someone from Joyetech on reddit that asked for feedback about the eVic, but I can't find him again... but while looking I've found some interesting thoughts about the eVic-S, especially the password option is great if you are worried about your stupid kids.

This mod addresses many concerns the mainstream media and non-vapor people out there.

Safety - You can have your device alert you when the temperatures of your mod, and thus battery become to hot. If you're vaping on a battery that is not capable of handling the power output you've selected, your device can alert you of dangerous temperature levels. Without the screen, a similar technology could simply shut off the device without an explanation.

Data Storage - This has more to do with its compatibility with the computer software, but allowing yourself to review how much you've used can help you reduce the amount you're vaping if you're using this as a quitting mechanism from cigarettes.

Restriction - The ability to set a password on your device disallows a child from picking up your vape unattended and using it without your knowledge. While this could have been done without the fancy screen, the screen facilitates it and makes it easier to manage.

Battery Power Display - Most devices with a screen include this feature. It is very convenient, especially if you're still fresh off of cigarettes and a dead battery could mean buying a pack of analogs to satiate your craving. If you know your battery has x amount of puffs left, it will give you enough time to decide whether you need to return home to charge your device/battery before you make the decision to cave and smoke a cigarette.

Programmed Device Limits - If you are truly using this as a cessation device, then limiting your usage amount using the display screen can be very helpful in disciplining your usage to slowly quit your nicotine intake. The screen allows you to monitor how many puffs you have remaining so you can pace yourself.

Personality - The ability to set a customizable image on your home screen allows you to have a regulated mod that is "different" from somebody else with the same mod as you. Under this point I'll add - Much of the functions the display facilitates adding personal settings that could be done from a PC, the screen simply adds functionality and tinkering ability on the go.

Got my eVic S yesterday, after getting a chance to check it out hands-on first. About the same size as the Vamo...big, but not ridiculously so, and of course being constructed of ss makes it solid/heavy, but then I have a VTR so it does not seem that heavy to me.

This absolutely rocks my Kayfun & Nautilus. I don't have any fancy diagnostic equipment, but this can't be pulse width modulated...my Kayfun hits like it is on a mech mod.

Threads are fine, the control head is screwed together rather than press fit, so this should prove durable, though of course as with the original eVic, the control head is encased in plastic so I would not expect this to be as tough as a Provari...but still, well-built overall.

The adjustment ring doesn't rattle like it does on my original eVic.

I'm not big on puff-counters, pics, and screen savers...but the screen is bright and with it set up for showing battery charge, coil resistance, watts & volts at a glance, so no big woof.

To me, there are really only three concerns, two just mildly annoying, the other both a plus and minus at the same time:

    1. eVic tried to fix the wonky battery cover with tether on the original eVic by putting a rubber, non-secured cover on the Supreme. Although I am fine with the elongated eVic power button, it is too similar to the mini usb cover as it is the same shape and etends about an equal distance from the body...if they were going to do that, a square or round button would have avoided that. I have used cell phones with non-covered mini usb ports for a long time now...never had a problem, so if the cover gets lost...or I just don't bother with it no big deal, but, this simply still is wonky.

    2. In line with #1, I bought the black version...the fire button is the same color as the control head; why not have the fire button either silver, or at least a different shade from the body? If it was, the habit of hitting the usb cover instead of the fire button would be lessened.

    3. In a mod of this price, I really would have preferred a spring loaded or floating center pin. However, to me that is somewhat ameliorated by the 510/eGo connector being removable/replaceable. The original eVic had a notoriously weak 510 connector, but really, the 510/eGo connector is the most frequently damaged parts on most mods, so having a replaceable connector is a pretty good feature (and a floating center pin really does nothing to protect a connector from damage from a fall)

I lucked out and got a pretty good price on this at my local B&M vape shop with a 15% off coupon...but one thing I still do not get with Joytech: Why a puff counter? To me, that is for folks primarily trying to limit their vaping...at this price point (which is fine for what the eVic S is), I sure didn't buy it to limit my vaping...I suspect few who buy this would, but then this is a small thing...pics, screen savers, puff count...surely there are those out there who will enjoy/use these features, but to me they are a bit "foo-foo".

Having said that, these are minor issues to me. The eVic is built nicely, fires devices consistently and well (including sub-ohms down to .5) and retains the original eVic's ability to easily be firmware-upgradable. It feels good in my hand, tanks fit it properly, and replacement parts will be easy to obtain if/when necessary.

I'm one of those people who like the puff counter, have it on my evics and my itaste vv's. I use them to see at a glance how much more vaping I can do on a battery. And I can see it being useful in the future if I do decide to reduce my vaping (still working down the nicotine level right now). Just wish I could make it bigger on the eVics, can't see it without my glasses!

Got SS Evic Supreme, 2 sony vtc4 2100mah 30A batteries and efest luc charger from sweet-vapes yesterday - fast shipping by USPS and good store will do business with them again. This rocks anything I have put on it, notably the Arnold and the Fogger V4. I can just imagine what Phil's review will say. There are a couple of hates I have too. The sharp edges, .1w increments, and bad English. I doubt the numbers will match accurately but it does something the DNAs can never do and is very important, it down converts. Even a $35 VAMO does that. And more importantly, it is consistent. Which is more important to me than accuracy in watt setting versus output. Consistency. I don't care if its a half watt or two watts off just as long as its consistent I can compensate. I have been looking for a while for an upgrade to the VAMO - still the best bang for the buck IMHO. But I wanted a luxury APV. I had looked at the Pro-Vari, sorry I have to have watts. I looked at various DNAs but thanks to Phil's review glad I didn't waste going down that path. The Evic Supreme hits the mark for what I was looking for. Coming from a VAMO V5 that has a floating center pin in the 510 I find the fixed 510 in the Supreme a Godsend. Spring loaded would be a nice feature just as long as it bottomed out and didn't keep going in until it shorted out as in the aforementioned VAMO. That can be a problem for VAMOs with tanks like the Nautilus that have a center pin that pushes out. Easy fix is spin the collar up to meet the base of the tank so it doesn't push too far in. But once pushed in its in until you take it apart and push it back up and that's not easy on a VAMO with press fit top cap if you don't have a vise. But given there are plenty of tanks like the Fogger with adjustable center pin I don't miss a spring loaded center pin feature on the Evic Supreme at all. And yes love the replaceable 510 feature, I had to replace a top cap on a VAMO once and it is not fun even with a vise. I downloaded the MyVapors software and installed on a laptop and connected to the Supreme. Interesting idea being able to control features and options that way but was able to set it up using the on board menu without a computer no problem. The software does allow you to review your vaping history, watts, volts, ohms of atomizer, puffs and durations by day week and month. Other than the nerd in me, not sure it is of much use though. You can upload custom pics for boot logo, background and screen saver. Though the idea of a screen saver on an APV has me scratching my head. I have also used some older 18650s I have used in the VAMOs and they work for low wattage settings but to get the mostest from the ghostest you need the 30A batteries. That was a beetlejuice joke for those that missed it. Get the vtc5's though, much more capacity. Taking the same Fogger V4 on a VAMO V5 set at 4W I have to set the Evic Supreme at 8W for the same vape experience - taste, throat hit and vapor production IE lung hit with something like a fogger V4. I'm not sure how to explain that, it just is. Probably a difference in the low modulation frequency of the VAMO. The diameter of the Evic Supreme is slightly larger than the VAMO as my VAMO leather sleeve wont fit the Supreme. But no worries, I fashioned a sling from a leather shoe lace, a split key ring and a bit of aluminum flashing that helps take up the gap between the bottom of the tank and the top collar of the Supreme. Yes even with an adjustable center pin tank there is still a gap. I really like how this thing auto senses the atomizer resistance and auto sets the adjustment range.

Bottom line, Evic Supreme gets a thumbs up from me as a luxury VW APV. I love this thing, I just cant put it down. Fantastic vape setup with the Supreme and the V4. So just burnish off the sharp edges, store the USB plug in the box it came in and call it a day. VAMO still holds the best bang for the buck IMHO at almost 1/5th the cost and I'd still recommend that for a first timer APV. But if you are tired of being careful not to evoke the VAMO issues they just haven't fixed or want the extra wattage and software features, get the Supreme it really is a sweet piece of kit with a couple DIY fixes. DID I MENTION IT DOWN CONVERTS? Maybe one day if DNA ever does that I'll get one.

Not a stupid question at all Clmarti78. Down converts means it will modulate the voltage out to something lower than the battery voltage. Phil Busardo explains it in his review of the DNA on his site here:

Taste Your Juice | ALL ABOUT THE DNA-20
Taste Your Juice | THE DNA-30 & THE CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED

If you use a higher resistance build or atty like 1.8 to 2.2 ohms, 4.2 volts can be too high, the APV needs to down convert to 3 Volts. If it doesn't you will end up with a burnt taste flavor and dry hits because the voltage is too high. What I really like about the EVIC Supreme is it limits the range of wattage adjustment based on atomizer resistance measurement. That range starts at a point just under where I like the vape for best flavor and vapor production. I have put 2.2 ohm Nautilus to it and a .96 ohm build on a Fogger V4+ and it limits the range to reasonable limits. There is a good chart on this on Phil Busardo's website here:

    http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9dkanCt0I1qc8949o2_1280.png

That's why I like devices that control by power and not voltage. I plug anything into it and it regulates the voltage based on measured atty resistance, current battery voltage which is always changing and my wattage setting. Keeps the heat just right for the resistance and I don't have to fiddle with it as the resistance changes. And the resistance on the coils do and will change as you vape. Take my current build. Before wetting the wicks with juice it measured 1.05 ohms. After wetting and several puffs it is down to .97 ohms. Over time as layers build on the coils it will get even lower and take less voltage to get the same power IE vape experience.

So down convert is real important for taste and vape experience unless you just want max power regardless of dry hit or burnt taste, in that case just use a mech mod. And power control based on atty resistance and battery voltage minimizes the fiddling with levels.

Good question and yes you are right you never know until you ask. And thanks for your posts in this thread it helped me make my decision to pull the trigger on an EVIC Supreme and I'm real glad I did.

    My mancave
    I got my eVic-S today!

The first thing I noticed is that it's HEAVY! I have a .40 caliber pistol that feels lighter than this thing. I'm sure I could use the eVic-S as a weapon, in fact. Someone tries to mug me and steal my eVic-S, I'll just throw the eVic-S at 'em and .......... oh, wait. OK, never mind.

But seriously... It's amazingly solid. It's built like a bank vault. That's the first thing I noticed. The next thing I noticed is that the text on the screen is r-e-a-l-l-y small. Probably not a problem unless you're visually impaired like me. I have to switch from my 1.50x glasses to my 2.00x ones if I'm going to do anything other than vape or change wattage or voltage settings, which are larger and easier to read than everything else.

I'm already loving the passthrough ability. Brand new out of the box, needs a charge, but I want to use it right away? No problem!

The onboard menuing system is really easy and logically designed. (I never had a regular eVic, so I can't report on any differences between this one and that one.) The spinning ring takes some getting used to, but it seems easy enough to use. It seemed backwards to me at first. With menu scrolling, right should be down and left should be up. Nope, it's the other way around. Again, that'll be easy to get used to.

I'm still learning everything there is to it. But don't worry about there being a learning curve to conquer before you can even get to vape with your eVic-S. It was literally a matter of seconds from taking it out of the box and installing the battery to taking my first vape. It seriously took me longer to fill my Hypertank than it did to get to vaping once it was attached to the eVic-S. Turned it on, dialed up 6.5w, and vaped away!

It'll be a while before I mess with the eVic-S's more advanced features - boot screen image, screensaver, auto/manual modes, stealth, temperature, password, cooking my dinner, launching nuclear missiles, etc. Once I get the essentials down - basic device configuration and what not - then I'll jump into the rest. If the other features come as easy as learning the basics, then I'll have this thing down pat in no time at all.

I haven't yet tinkered with the PC software for it. So far all I've done is install it on my PC and opened it. The interface looks really well thought-out, by the way. Later tonight I'll mess around with it.

So, most importantly, HOW DOES IT VAPE? WONDERFULLY! I'm enjoying some MBV Black Ice 18 in my 5ml Pyrex Hypertank at 6.5w on a 1.8Ω coil, and it's giving me everything I wanted and then some. I haven't even tinkered with the RVV/RVW time-to-power profiles yet. Designing your own draw, and all. That's something I'm really looking forward to, IF I can stop vaping with it long enough, that is.

It's a great device even if you don't care about all the other features. If all you want is an APV that's built like it could survive Armageddon, then you won't be at all disappointed with the eVic-S. Just remember, "built like a bank vault" means "as heavy as a bank vault". You go jogging with this thing in your pocket and you're going to be veering into trees. It may even have its own gravity well. I haven't tried standing on the side of it yet, though, to confirm that.

The Hypertank is often described as making mods top heavy. Well it doesn't with the eVic-S. Balancing it on my finger, the fulcrum is nowhere near the tank. The balancing point is about 1/3 of the way down the body of the eVic-S, in fact, and that's with a full 5ml of juice in the Hypertank.

Overall, the eVic Supreme is really quite amazing. I've had cars with fewer features, anvils that weren't as tough, and cigarette lighters that were more complicated to operate. I consider it to be $160 well spent. Now for that Kayfun I've been wanting...

Yeah it's the wrong way around. I'd also wish they would offer a different screen layout, I just don't want that much clutter and they should use the space for bigger numbers instead. Wattage, actual voltage delivered, battery status, resistance. That is all I need. Time and date maybe optionally, but 3 different kinds of puff counters and puff counter alarms?

I also hope they change the wattage setting to a kind of "mouse acceleration" so that if you move one time to the right you change 0.1 watt, but if you change it 3 times quick to the right you get 1.0 watt etc. So if you keep turning in quick succession the steps become larger.

I agree the one thing it does that I like is it will auto scroll the setting by .1 at a time if you flick the ring fast three times then it will stop auto scroll when you flick it one time. But its finicky you can't flick it three times too fast or too slow it has to be juuuust right. Would like to see that time gate opened up. And it doesn't round robin.

Face it, we're NEVER gonna be happy no matter what they do, LOL! Larger fonts, brighter display, selectable increments for wattage/voltage scrolling, a few more options for the main menu layout, half the size and twice the power and a nuclear battery with a half life of 5 years would make it "OK" for me....But I guess I can live with it the way it is.
