Evic took a nose dive... need help.

evic fell about 4 feet from my desk onto carpet. the head poped off and went rolling across the room. can this be fixed? do i need to soldier it? i dont have a soldiering iron are they expensive? can i just use electrical tape? super glue? stupid Chinese mod.

It appears it can be easily fixed but you will need a soldering iron or you might know someone who has one (know any HAM radio operators in your area?).

You might even be able to go to an electronics repair shop (computer, TV, VCR, etc) if anything like that still exists.

If you decide to fix it your self you can get an inexpensive soldering iron kit, which includes the iron, solder, paste, and maybe a few other tools, from Radio Shack. The guys at RS might even know of someone who can fix it for you. They would certainly know what HAMs are in the area.

Hard to tell from the picture. are the wires broke? if so, you can probably solder them together and use electrical tape to keep the solder from grounding out, then gently push it back together. soldering Irons are not expensive at all. Less than $5 for a small one.
you can learn how fairly easily. I'm guessing that since you don't have one, you might need to see how to do it. These should help

Seriously, sorry it broke. I have one too, and I was wondering how they survive a fall. Now I know. Looks like my next purchase IS going to be a Provari.

Edit: Standard desk height is only 29", not 4 feet.

From the picture it looks like the end of the black wire pulled loose from where it was soldered to. Usually what's called a "cold solder joint" will be weak and the joint will pull apart very easily.

Once it's soldered back properly the wire itself will break before the joint pulls loose again.

Be sure to use rosin core solder, NOT acid core!

Your gonna need to super glue the head to the inside a bit... The same thing happened to me as well! The wires are a real easy fix. Good Luck!!

I'd see about a warranty swap before I'd start soldering on it. That is a point of no return.. (no pun intended)

First......No one Warranties Abuse - dropping is abuse.
Second - It is what it is. Anyone that has bought one knows the head is plastic, not Stainless Steel. Nothing stupid about it. Just different.

I have dropped both of mine several times - Thankfully they have had no damage beyond a nicked cap. It was the angle at which it impacted that amplified the damage, not the height from which it fell.

Last - If you are not comfortable making this type of repair ask a few friends. One of them may be the tinkering type and can handle it for you.

Most manufs call a short drop onto carpet "normal use" but meh. Doesn't hurt to ask them.

My bro just bought a new evic and the head of his came off exactly like that and it wasnt dropped. From what we can tell they are just pressed in no glue or solder. Being worried he just took his back and got a new one from our shop.

The only time I dropped mine, it fell in my dog's food bowl. I guess it survived because it was full of canned food at the time.
