No. The 3.0 is not preinstalled. Once the program is running (the exe file), it will show current versions of your device (firmware, mod version).

Since Joyetech states that the upgrade lets the VTC use TC with up to 1.5 ohm coils I decided to throw a 1.2 ohm prebuilt coil in the Crown and give it a go. The coil reads as 1.33 ohms and works perfectly fine in TC. It took almost a full tank of juice to break in the head but it stays in TC mode just like the lower ohm coils.

The resistance didn't change at all on either of my mods after sleeping overnight. I had the resistance locked on one mod & unlocked on the other. Both were at the same resistance today. The update seems to keep the ohms set now.

same here, but i only ever updated my evic v.1 once, and i cant remember what the update process is like at all, lol... I STILL use my Evic V.1 all the time. I bought one of those "Anyvape 18500 tubes" for it, so, it's been really handy in 18500 mode as a regulated tube mod. My provari mini can only use 18350s, never had the $$ to grab the fifteen dollar TUBE... to make it 18500, lol. But, my Evic V.1 with my $3 anyvape tube is awesome as a stealthy, yet, long-lasting, VW tube mod. LOVE the Joye screens... The Evic VTC Mini's screen is still my FAVORITE screen of EVERY device on the market, to this day... I haven't seen a better looking screen. Love my original Evic's screen too, and the click wheel is still a favorite feature of mine as-well :p

A couple of other things...
1) When I switch the device off and then display the FW version with 20 clicks of fire button, it shows "Beta 3.00".
2) Unfortunately they either didn't bother to fix or didn't understand the problem with the amp meter. It still shows atomizer amperage, not battery. That's a bit disappointing.
Yes, I agree. Atty amp draw is useless information whereas battery amp draw would be incredibly useful. Mine also shows Beta 3.0. Noticed that I can check the battery voltage in the same way as on the Reuleaux rx200, fire & down buttons together for about when the device is off. Not sure if the 2.0 firmware included that function.

Just found this thread so sorry of this has been covered already, probably has several times, but I can't find it. I have an Evic vyc mini. Can't figure out how to check the firmware nor how to install the update. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? I am not necessarily asking for details just perhaps a link to find this info? I did download the v3 update.

When I power it off and click 20 times to see what firmware is installed, it just turns on. I feel kinda, well, stupid but I am not, promise!

Good job with the buttons, JK.

Since the small plastic buttons cost no more than a few cents for all three and they're fairly easy to replace (watch that top spring though!) I'd like to see sets in various colours incl. plain brushed metal look made available, if not even shipped in the kit. 3rd parties are welcome too.

Mine has the stuck 510 pin issue (*) and I haven't even updated the firmware once (go Leenux!) and still I find my VTC Mini just awesome and will be getting another one soon, probably two in fact. It performs great, looks good, easy to use and the manufacturer's support is first class.

(*) I made the mistake of ordering it from GB whose proprietary website-only "support system" seems designed to fail catastrophically, except when it involves you buying more 'gear'. Paying a small premium and buying from a local vape shop is usually worth it for the local support and peace of mind.

ti grade 1 is 0366
ti grade 2 is 0353

Perhaps your TCR source is better. Do you mind sharing it?

I'm finding the following showing .0035 as the value for Ti Grade 1 (which includes the SX Mini manual, btw):
TC beyond Ni200: Nickel Purity, Dicodes; Ti, SS, Resistherm NiFe30; Coefficient of Resistance
DNA200 TCR Coefficients & the Dicodes 2380 TC Chip? How do they relate? • /r/cloudmaker
TCR value of Ni200 T1 and SS (stainless steel) wire - Vaping G33K
Temperature Coefficients and Coil Wires - Spinfuel eMagazine

These might all be incorrect and just regurgitating bad information.

Thanks for the heads up on this, I'll update my post once we agree on the quality of the source.

I will say that I've just tried the 350 value in the VTC's V3 update with a Ti Grade 1 coil and it vaped as I'd expect for the temp I selected. Also, it vaped close (but not quite) to the stock Ti setting. I'll try your value and report back.

Extract the .rar file. Connect Evic mini to computer. Double click on the exe file. Window will show the current firmware and model. Click Update. Locate .bin file to update. Click update. Voila!
got it, thanks! Update done. I use my phone for internet access and when I unplugged the phone, worked perfectly. Thanks again!

I don't know about the other but 317L is 0880.

That's incorrect. You shifted by a decimal point. :)

0880 would put the TCR higher than even Ni200 (which is 0620, or 0600 by some references).

SS317 is very close to the other SS family. SS316 is 0092, for example.

.00088 is the TCR for SS317L (that I could find, + or - a few hundred thousandths of an ohm).

TCR values DJLSB Vapes uses: Findings on the DNA 200

So for the VTC Mini, we multiply .00088 x10 = .0088, drop the decimal and pad any zeros on the right (which aren't needed here) = "0088"

I know it's 0880 on the mod because I'm vaping on it now.

0088 produces zero vapour.

I'm also vaping it now with 0092 for SS316 and it works correctly on a single coil. The reason it's working for you is because the limit has become whatever your wattage is set to. You're essentially vaping in power mode.

I'm going to guess you have a low resistance dual coil build.

Because the Joyetech chips don't understand dual coils yet (as confirmed in the RX200 thread), you're getting the weak vape with "correct" TCR values.

Here a link to the RX200 thread where the "dual coil = a new TCR for the parallel circuit" phenomenon was discussed: Findings on the DNA 200

So, do your 0880 if it's solving the dual coil issue, but don't do it because you think it's the correct TCR value for the SS family. :) Know, what I mean.

Once you're in dual coil territory, if you really want an accurate TCR value, you can find the correct TCR by doing dry burns tests with cotton at around 400 to 420.

Or, just bump the number up / down until it feels right. This is what's so awesome about custom TCRs.

For the single coil users, I can assure you the correct TCR value is 0088 (if the .00088 TCR of SS317L is assumed).
