I could not get my old Mac tower running Snow Leopard to see the USB connected Evic Mini. Under the Mac I run a Parallels Windows XP emulator, and so I was able to upgrade to 3.0 that way.

I had no issue upgrading with a mac (el capitan).

Sometimes users had trouble connecting the mod through a usb hub rather than
directly to the machine.

How do you "cheat" Mini to ask "Old/New coil"?
Been running mine with the Tron-tank it came with and not ONCE has it asked that even when changing from Ni200-head to titanium one.
Might be wrong he, but me thinks it should do that.

Same here ...am on 3.0 firmware and noticed that when the ohm's are somewhat in the 10% ballpark between atomizers....it does not ask whether it's old/new coil.

- yes i have never need to check my puff count, but i want to compare my batteries performance, thats why i need to reset the time counter [emoji39]
To reset time and puff counters, press the fire button for about 3 seconds while the counter is blinking in menu mode. It will zero out the counter and leave menu mode.

Even when I remove/hit fire/replace the atty it doesn't always ask if new/same atty. It seems to ask if new/same atty when atty resistance is higher, but never when lower. I recall reading when lower it 'silently' adjusts. Possibly it would ask for new/same atty if the resistance was a lot lower, don't know as I'm just getting into this mod. That said, I do like it, and the v3 FW screen layout and programmable TCR has been to my liking as well. I'm thinking there will be updates to follow; I know I'll be watching....

Earlier, battery voltage display was mentioned (mod off, hold fire and down). FWIW the battery voltage is also displayed when set to bypass. This might be more convenient for some.

Has anyone estimated what the default 316 SS TCR is? On mine it's higher than the "0120" default setting used on the TCR set menu- by a good bit, although how much I've yet had time to figure out.

I really want to upgrade my vtc mini's firmware, but all I get when I connect it to any windows pc is device malfunction. Under windows device manager properties it says error code 43. Tried uninstalling the driver and with hardware refresh it does the same thing.

It tried 4 different computers, 3 - win 10 and 1 - win 7. Tried 4 or 5 different usb cables. Atomizer off, atomizer on...battery in, battery out...I have even tried device unplugged 20 fire buttons to display installed firmware (v2.00) then inserting the usb. And many variations of all of the above.

I updated the firmware about a month ago when I got it, purchased on 11/06. Updated the firmware from v1.something sequentially through to v2.00 on my main computer, and now it won't recognize the device.

To top it off I contacted the shop I bought it from, they told me they won't warranty it because they feel it is software related. I sent an irregularity inquiry to Joytech last night.

Frustrated........

I really want to upgrade my vtc mini's firmware...

Put the expanded firmware directory on a thumb drive, take a trip to your local Best Buy (or similar) and "test" a new computer under the guise that you need to make sure its USB is compatible with some "special devices" that you're "building an app for."

They'll be too impressed to turn you away.

Explain that the test will only take a moment and doesn't require installing anything on the demo PC.

Launch the .exe directly from the USB drive.

After the firmware updates, you can proclaim "great, it looks like it's going to work."

When the sales associate asks you if you want the new computer boxed up, just say, "let me look around for a bit, I need some other stuff."

Sneak out with your update mod in hand.

:D

Btw, this this terrible advice, you probably shouldn't do this.

Actually, you could do this with a straight face, if the computer were a small Windows 8 or 10 tablet (with a mini USB port + dongle adapter), because it would be a legitimate concern. And at 89.00 bucks or so, you might actually want to purchase it just for this.

it seems like u tried the usual connection ts.
tell shop its not software problem if mod hardware wont connect to any pc.
it seems theyre too lazy to bother w/warranty from distributor.
which shop did u buy it from.

Hi, I bought an Evic VTC Mini and upgraded the firmware to the latest one (v3.0). I'm using the Ni 0.2ohm coil and it looks like it reaches the Temp Protection way too quickly (less than 1sec). The resistance is being read correctly (0.2ohms), but if I vape 3-4 times (low vapour), unscrew the atty and screw it back again and have the device read the resistance "wrong", since it's reading it slightly higher (0.26ohms), only then it will work correctly. I've read around a few other places that some people have the same issue, but haven't found a solution. Is there any? :(

PS: I just checked the ambient temperature on the device (cliked 10 times on fire button) and it states 36ºC, which seems a little bit WAAAAY too high, my room is definitely not even close to that temperature (probably ~18ºC in here). So, it seems that the misreading of the ambient temp is causing erratic behaviour, anyone knows anything about this, any solution?

Thank you!

I think that's normal.

Solution would be to lock your resistance.

I just tested mine (with an atty on, and whatever heat dissipation happens through the 510).

Room temp as measured from where the VTC was resting, was 75.5F (24C). 10 clicks showed 30C (86F). It had been sitting for well over an hour without being touched (using my RX200 at the moment).

About 10F hotter than room temp.

So, we have some thermal mass, it's black (at least mine is) and would absorb radiant heat pretty well, but I would expect the temp to only be a couple degrees warmer from a flat screen monitor a few feet away (that does have a warm, metal bezel -- old Apple Cinema Display).

I bet the, say, 9 degrees F of warmth is generated from the board, even when idle, from the heartbeat it sends to the atty and other stuff, like monitoring the battery.

The way to test would be to remove the battery. Let it sit for an hour, then pop the battery in and quickly measure.

Hey gang, Sorry for the newb question, but just updated to Firmware 3.0. Can't seem to find how to switch from Celsius to Fahrenheit. User manual shows all the other options and how to change - just can't find the button sequence to flip temperatre...

TIA
Turn the temp all the way up or down until it stops. Next temp change click will take it into other measurement system.

(e.g., hold + until 600f; let go of +; click + and you will be at 100c)
