Hey guys, trying to find the best build for SS 316L temp control that'll give me decent battery life. I've got 26G MKV 316L from fasttech and I'm building it in the Griffin. I've tried a 10 wrap on a 3mm bit (0.36), and a 10 wrap on 3mm (0.22). Both want to push at least 60-70 watts constantly.

I'm also having difficulty in general with SS TC. After building a coil temps are super hot, but the next day (I usually build in the evening), I need to ramp up the temp (from 350-380 to 420-450) to get the same experience. Is the coil settling or something? I'm using the SS316 mode, because I can't get anything decent out of TCR (from 88 to 102).

The best experience I've gotten so far was a 9 or 10 wrap single coil in the Stumpy rda, but I'd like something similar in either my Griffin, Crius or Subtank Mini rba.
I found that the stock SS 316 TC setting runs very hot with 316L wire - it scorches cotton at 380F. Setting a M slot at TCR 0092 seems more like it. I've been running a .94 Ohm, 28 ga. SS 316L coil in a Kayfun Mini v3 clone at 450F with decent results - but I'm still new to using SS 316L. I've been getting about a full day out of new Samsung 30Qs.

Think I'll try to get closer to .7 Ohm on the next build (based on the Steam-engine mod range worksheet) just to see if it makes a difference.

Hi homeofDob, at 60-70 watts you are pretty much maxing out the mod and there aren't many boards that perform great across the range their manufacturers specifies.
You will get better results and battery life from a 2 battery mod like an Hcigar 133 for your style of vaping. Even a JT cuboid fi you won't vape at 140-150 watts.

The diameter of the coil also plays probably as much as a big role as the wire gauge as well but going with 28 gauge is a good first step. My setup on the vtc now is SS304 - tcr 0105-, 8-9 wraps spaced 28g coil, I went a bit higher with ID on this one and used a 2.5mm coiling bit and resistance is 0.96 ohms. I just increased it to 30 watts (from 13) with temp limit set at 210 Celsius degrees. With a 2mm air intake the vape was much hotter, it actually reached temp limit which at my normal settings that only happens when the tank is going empty.

Ive hear the present vtc mini has the same chip as the vaporfkask lite...true?

kinda have to figure IN HOUSE - joye / eleaf / wismec - are all sharing the technology

one way or a nuther...

I have one of each and they DO perform very similar...

Well something I found out from Daniel at djlsbvapes.com is the new 3.03 upgrade also upgraded the TCR's. I was having to run my TCR at 108 but after the upgrade it was way too hot. I checked with him and they did upgrade them and you should be able to run 316L at 0092 now it's working great for me. Their regualar settings are still off a little but use the TCR memories.

Thanks. I've always has variations across my TC JTech's (four models) but just rolled with it as there are several ways to adjust the vape. Even 110 is low on some 316 builds.
But some better consistency in the stock mode TCRs would be a good thing.

I'm still on 3.01 on the VTC, but if the eventual VTwo Mini comes with 3.03 or later I'll probably upgrade this one just to not have to keep the differences in mind.
Just call me Lay-Z-Boy. :D

(Nice new avi BTW. :p )

Hey guys just a quick question. I just made my first as 316l coil at .68 and I can't get it to stay in tc mode it keeps kicking me out into power mode. I know I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what. It works fine in power. Any suggestions?

It's a common problem, I don't think your doing anything wrong.

Can you give us more info? What atty/tank. Coil build specs. Wraps. Spaced. Contact. Inner diameter?

No it's actually not a common problem.

If you're in the right mode and everything is clean, then my first guess is a connection issue.
Either in the atty's 510 stem or loose post screws or holdowns. If the res jumps around, the mod gets cranky and kicks out of TC.

The other immediate possibility is accidentally using non-TC wire. Again... cranky mod.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't TC builds be below 0.5 ohms to work? That may be the culprit. If over 0.5 ohms won't it kick ya back to Power mode?

Sorry found my answer... I was wrong!

I have read this same issue over and over with all devices that use this board, I call that common.

It generally has to do with low resistance, the device isn't detecting enough rise in ohms and kicks into wattage mode.

Common or not, I think Jim_MDP's list of things to check is spot on. The cause of the problem is not necessarily the board.

I disagree on both counts.

0.7 is not only not even remotely low for TC... it's just about spot on for 316 SS, IMO.
That's quite high actually, a lot of us are still adjusting our builds up towards that... for that greater res rise you cite.

And while you may feel you've read accounts of the issue a great deal, it actually comes up quite seldom proportional to the totality of posts on TC.
And those are most frequently not the mod but user error... often the two I mentioned.

However long it's been since last summer... I've used mostly TC, mostly 316 SS and eight or nine various maker's TC mods and I can't make them kick out.
It happens, but it's usually an easy and quick fix... or it's my xCube being a pillock... again. :p
