Just in case anyone is interested, looks like an original (60 watt) VTC Mini full kit, white only, with Ego Mega tank for $29.97 - plus there are 10% off coupons floating around and free shipping over $35.

Joyetech eVic VTC Mini Kit | PVS & Mods | VaporBeast

I've never ordered from them so I can't vouch for the vendor, though.

Are you sure you mean $2/pack in '63?
They were cheaper than that well into the Seventies, and of course... no "generics" back then. ;)

Well...Jim...I think your memory is much better than mine...

Now that I think back...I can remember visiting NYC in 1966 or 1967 and being totally flabbergasted when I saw vending machines selling analogs for One Dollar A Pack!!!

for me i quit smoking because of the money especially w/the high cig taxes in Ontario canada.
but agreed about money going to vaping is much better than cigs.

but its damn frustrating when the setup is just not vaping the way its supposed to, cigs were a no brainer in operating them lol, just made sure you had them and plenty of cheap backup lighters everywhere.

my evic mini when it feels like firing it fires great, hits much better than my istick 100w dual battery non tc mod.

but thats the problem, the mini doesnt fire consistently all the time, it either doesnt register the press down or just shuts off randomly. tried different batteries but no luck. its been flaky like this a couple of months after i bought it.

looking for another mod but one thats more reliable but hits like the mini

So firmware version 5.04 was released yesterday for the VTC Mini. They've added a preheat function but they've also butchered the interface. It's basically illegible except for the large wattage/temp display. I need a freakin magnifying glass to read any other info on the screen.

Looks like it's back to 3.03 until they fix the interface again.

I have used every version up to 3.01 and had stopped there (never updated the Picos either)... I don't play with logos and START mode holds no allure.
But pre-heat has serious potential, so I gave 5.04 a shot.

However...
This latest interface is an abomination, and I've sat through the debates over 1.30 versus 2.00.

It looks like they've dropped Flappy Bird to make room for the pre-heat code and that's fine by me. But the new interface drops the inclusion of the TCR value in the main TC display... and that was all I had considered worthwhile in 3.03 (for me).

But this new display is just ridiculous in itself... guess I'll go to 3.03 for a bit. :p

while i admire that they continue to offer new features, couldn't they just give us preheat and leave the display alone? i only use ti wire and it heats up very fast so i don't even use preheat on my sdna but it's nice to have the option. i won't be upgrading until i can keep the old (3.03) screen.

new update...3.04 same display +preheat

Software download - Joyetech

They describe the 5.04 update, but not this new 3.04. So now there's two, I'm assuming people complained enough that you now get the preheat but with the 3.03 interface. If that's true, I'll do the upgrade?

3.04 seems to have changed ss316 tcr from previous 3.03
seems i need higher temps to vape than b4
idk if its just me but it could be my mod as its been very temperamental for awhile

i cant remember but how do u remove logo, i just want to see my current temp/power all the time
I'm no expert, but I'm still on v3.01 and I've always thought that the default SS mode fired way too hot with 316L. Currently run 316L at TCR 0092, which seems about right to me.

Guess I should try an update. No real reason to though, as I'm satisfied with how it runs.

I have been using my RX for ages and decided to use the mini again to see the new firmware changes.
You are correct about the v3.04 aka v5.04 SS316L TCR being much higher.
I was getting burnt hits on the newest firmware at 420F.
Thanks to love ohm display I did some quick math and it seems the "SS316L" TCR is closer to the SS430 TCR.
You can test this yourself, built a coil but don't wick it, fire it at any given temp and record the resistance when it hits temp limit. Downgrade to V3.01 and you will notice that the final resistance is much lower.

Also V3.01 has custom firmware that allows you to erase stored coil resistance, huge deal breaker for me since most of my coils/tanks are all within 0.02 of each other
