so

basics

nickel
titanium
stainless steel

are all wire types that you can use for temp control vaping

they are what younuse to make coils
you either buy them as wires and make coils yourself or buy premade coils

only stainless steel can be used for temp and vw modes interchangeably

Does it work better with 317L or 316L?
Also have you played with it at all to see how accurate or consistent it is?

I don't even have the mod yet I'm just looking at a few sites trying to buy some wire, but I'm not sure which one to get for this mod.

running the velocity with a dual coil with 26g SS 316L and it is working fine so far! Still have to fine tune the temperature and it is a bit choppy. But not annoying choppy :)
Where are you getting wire from? The best place I found was in the UK sadly although prices were good but international shipping puts me off a bit. Any good vendors in the US?

Anyone try the SS setting yet? I get mine in tomorrow so I can't play with it yet.

I rebuilt one of the eGo One CLR heads with 26 gauge 316 wire and it's working great in temp control. The coil came out to .54 ohm, locked in the resistance before I used the coil, and it hasn't moved. I have a couple of Crown heads that I rebuilt with 316 SS wire to try later on tonight. So far so good using the eGo One Mega. It's only been a short while though. It'll take more time and experiments to know for sure.

Got my mini a few months ago and never bothered to update the firmware, but decided to try to do it today. I went to the website, downloaded the appropriate driver (I'm on a Mac, using El Capitan), and plugged in the mini to try to do the update. But when the update window opened, it didn't recognize the device. I hit "update" but got "has not found the hardware equipment" message.
I tried deleting the update firmware application and downloading it again but got the same message. I also tried different data cables and different USB ports and still found no joy.
Anyone have any ideas here? Anyone successfully update from a Mac?

Ok that was my main question - so - this new evic vtc - you can use normal coils for temperature mode?

No. Most tanks use kanthal wire for their coils and kanthal isn't used for temp control. If you want to use temperature control you will need to buy either nickel or titanium coils. They are made for temperature control mods. Some of the tanks that use stainless steel coils aren't fit for use in temperature control, although some may be.

I know how confusing all of this is so let me ask, do you have a specific tank that you want to use in temperature control? The Nautilus Mini uses normal kanthal coils that aren't used with temperature control. It's still a nice tank. I only rarely use temp control. Most vapers are very happy with normal coils.

No, "normal" coils are made with either kanthal or nichrome wire, which doesn't change resistance as the temperature increases. TC mods use this changing resistance to estimate the temperature of the coil.

When you say "do you have a specific tank that you want to use in temperature control? " - I am newer than that, lol!!! I have 1 tank - the nautilus mini - I bought it because I was going to buy a cylinder mod and looked up tanks and that one was recommended alot. At this point I don't have any preferences, since I haven't formed any or tried any more than that one.

When I decided that I wanted to go to TC, it was strictly because when I tried the cylinder mod for the first time, I got cool vapor out of it - and really didnt like that, it's nothing like smoking a cigarette, and at this point I need something that's still close to smoking (only been off cigs for less than a month). So with that revalation, I started looking at temperature control.

I dont have any hardware preferences. But I do have smoking preferences.

I am looking for something that has resistance when I smoke - like sucking on a cigarette, I want to have a "drag". That's someething else I figured out when I tried the cylinder mod with the nautilus, even on the lowest setting (variable air flow), it was way too much. So I am using silicone tips over it to make for a smaller hole and I just purchased narrow bore 510 drip tips (waiting for them to ship), so I can eliminate that problem.

So now I need to eliminate the cool vapor problem, hence, variable temperature controlled mods. That's as far as I've got.

I have read up on them, and saw that I need nickel or titanium coil (I can buy nickel coils for my nautilus), but I am looking at buying a whole kit so I will get a tank with whatever mod I purchase.

I am definitely not at the stage where I make my own coils yet (although I did watch a youtube vid on how to do it for the nautilus mini). I haven't even changed the coil once yet (just started using it)

ok based on preference buy the evic mini with the tank that comes with it (wait a few more days of weeks since they just announced the new tank and the new mod with the newer colors

then read ecf form here on out there are other tanks that will perform better but then again will be confusing..

its ok to have 2 tanks, better actually so you can interchange between juices

Ok - I think that is my plan. I did plan on getting more tanks - but I just am switching from the migcig 21 (its a cigalike with a clearomizer tank. I bought an amigo (the only cylinder type mod the store I was in had) to try out vaping with a bigger mod and a tank. So that was the first time I needed one.

But it sounds like the stainless steel coils can be used in both temperature control mode AND vv or vw, is that correct? Do all tanks have a stainless steel coil? Or is that just for people that build their own? Or do some tanks have ss coils (just not my nautilus mini)

Some tanks have ss coils but not a majority

Ok cool - since I am definitely going to a temperature controlled mod, it sounds like I should buy this type of tank so I can switch back and forth between TC mode and VV or VW

Any suggestions on the best tanks that use SS coils?

How did you hear they are coming out with new colors - where can I look to see when they come out?
