EVOlution. Is it worth upgrading to one?

Ive had my Black Evo for about four days now, and I thought it is time to write a short review on it.

Bearing in mind im fairly new to vaping, only been doing it for about a month or so.

My first e-cig was an RN4081 'Super-Mini'. A baseline capable e-cig. Average vapour, on-off unreliable throat hit, very short cartridge lifespan. For the month I was using it, one question would repeat itself : Is it worth 'upgrading' to something like the Evo?. I had spent a fair bit of money on setting myself up with the RN4081, a bandoleer of batteries, multiple atomisers, a fair few carts, and a couple of dripping bottles. Could the vaping experience between my 4081, and the Evo be different enough to warrant jumping ship? The answer, for all those newbies in my position, is yes. Very much so.

Battery life of the Might Atom batts is around about the same as an RN4081, perhaps a little longer. The drag is similar too. The main differences are in the throat-hit and the vapour production.

The Evo consistently produces as much vapour as a fully dipped RN4081 with a fresh battery. This is preceded by a throat-hit in excess of a fully loaded RN4081. The vapour can feel slightly 'dry' when compared, but that is no big problem for me.

The slightly smaller width of the Evo considerably lends itself to that feeling of 'Im smoking a cigarette', rather than 'Im smoking something that is close to a cigarette, but not quite.' as with the RN4081. The lesser weight of the Evo also makes handling it, and the feeling of regular 'smoking', more believable to those vaping it.

So, from one newbie to another, I can heartily recommend making the jump. There will be many users out there who have purchased something akin to an RN4081, and then discovered ECF, and are sat there thinking 'Should I?...'. Personally, I say you should.

I haven't owned any cig other than the evo (so far...I'm probably going to be buying a pen-style in the next few days, though) but I can only agree with this. For me the evo has been incredibly consistent and has lived up to all of my expectations. I'm completely satisfied with my purchase and will happily recommend the EVO to anyone that's thinking about getting one.

In fact...I think I'm going to do a 45 day update, today.

I have also had a lot of hardware problems but agree that the EVO is a wonderful device to use when it's working. After a string or problems i sorted out my good from bad hardware and really like the properly working EVO. Customer service in the UK might be a much simpler matter making the whole thing worthwhile.

I've never heard of anyone having that kind of trouble with an Evo.

wow.

Sorry to hear about your luck, mate but as I'm sure you've gathered from reading the forums you may not be alone in having had SOME problems but that boat doesn't have many people in it. And to have 4 batteries and 6 atomizers go in 2 months...I'm completely stunned.

I'm on day 45 and haven't had so much as a bump in the road and I've abused mine...dropped it, stepped on it, done tons of reviews with it, taken it to clubs almost weekly...

lmao that little video is funny.....I think Intellicig uk would have been perfectly happy to have replaced parts if I had moaned about it but I am not one for complaining.... I just bought extra's in the hope I would get lucky because when it works the evo does work great. I just lost heart with it in the end though... and I am trying a mini pipe now.

That sucks, bro. We all know that there has to be a small percentage of consumers for every product that end up taking it in the back door.

Shame to hear it's one of our members.

If I were you I'd consider getting in touch with John and seeing if he's willing to do anything about it. I bet he'll take measures to sort it.

From what I have read I believe John at Intellicig would have been more than happy to have sorted me out with some replacement parts ...so I won't knock Intellicig....I think I was just very unlucky rather than me doing anything wrong because I sure follow the advice on these forums on how to look after everything...especially when it seems to be a consensus of opinions. I sure don't want to put anyone off the Evo because there is hardly any one else that's had any real trouble with it.

Why not send John an email with the words "Faulty Parts" in the subject line? I'm sure he'll help you out - he's a very nice bloke.

I think there has been some confusion between the (now defunct) US Intellicigs and the UK Intellicig service.

For me, UK Intellicig has been great. They were out of stock for a few weeks, I sent emails enquiring and received a reply fairly promptly. When the goods were finally back in stock I ordered, asked a question about delivery (Which was answered in good time), and received through the post about three days later. :)

First Week Update:

The Evo is still going strong. I have noticed some differences between the regular white Evo and my black one though, namely the atomisers.

My colleague's white Evo produces slightly more vapour than mine. I took out both the atomisers and had a close look at them. The black atomiser has a small bridge of plastic under the metal mesh wick, it effectively sits ontop of the atomiser, dividing it in two. Whereas the white atomiser was simply the heating element sat in the recess below the metal mesh wick. Could this be a slightly modified design to extend the life of the atomisers? Not that im complaining, mine produces more than enough vapour. My colleagues looks like he is performing a rain-dance however!

The battery life has been excellent. Continued cycling use has show that the batteries are effective at heating the atomiser up until the last 10 puffs or so. Im getting about 5-6 hours per battery, smoking regularly.

If anyone has any more information on the 'plastic bridge' thing inside the atomiser, id be interested to hear. :)

I bought 2 evo started kits each with the extra battery, (1 long, 1 short), also I bought 2 because one was for a friend thats a heavy smoker but wanted to try the ecig.

Honestly I think the evo is great, excellent performer and actually feels like a cigarette and has that professional good quality look about it.

But I too have had a few problems and so has my friend with hes evo, the longer life battery i got with the evo doesnt function correctly, it cuts out way too early, sometimes not starting at all. The short battery has had a few glitches where it sometimes doesnt switch on, sometimes it stays on after ive finished taking a drag which made the atomizer heat up wayyy too much (had to unscrew the battery)... i was driving home from work when this happened btw.

My friend has had similar experiences with the short battery where it sometimes doesnt function correctly, the longer battery has similar issues too where it would function sometimes and others not.

Yeah i have both kits white and the black, and i was also wondering what was up with the black atomizers.I mean dont get me wrong the black ones work fine but alittle better vapor from my white ones.I never even bothered to look at the differences, but yeah i can see the plastic...hmm interesting!!

as im sure most people know, i quite like the EVO. but i also really like the RN4081.......i think that e-cig is like marmite, you either love it or hate it! me, i love it......very consistant, easy to use, pretty good bttery life and very good vapour production.

i rated the EVO and the Npro RN4081 both the same score in my video review of them.
im happy to use either!

pete, you really should have just sent john an email about your dodgy parts! he sends out replacements with no hassle. ive never even read a single post where someone has said otherwise.........i dont think he even asks for the faulty ones back!

i reckon you could still send him a message now and get it sorted...........no way should you have to keep buying parts if they were faulty.
