I "predict" Evolv will come out with a pod mod, with a chip inside the pod that will tell the mod what to do based on the juice and coil in the pod. Single mod, multiple pod styles for different vape styles.

Kind of what I took also, I'm thinking they are going to have a temp sensor in the atty to measure temp instead of relying on the coil resistance.

I'd rather have this. :)

I've thought the temp sensor in the atty idea was what is actually needed to do away the the "fiddle factor" of current TC technology and give more accurate temp control no matter what the wire may be. The 510 will have to go the way of the dodo bird along the way, but I've always though it was kind of a marginal connector anyway. A bayonet or twist lock would be much easier and allow for more than a two pole connection very easily. Problem is the power load that the current vaping style demands but even that can be easily overcome.

My overall "take away" from the vids is that Evolv is seriously interested in quality and safety. A good reason to stick with their products.

They are also after the guy who is trying to quit, it is a renewed focus. Expect more MTL coming out of them.

And I hate to say it, but the days of DIY may be numbered, at least how we know it now. Because, YES, the 510 will go away in a couple years unless the FDA changes their tune.

That's where the money is going to be, let's face it, those of us which prepared and stocked up, can keep doing as we please as long as our gear lasts.

I agree with you that future vape devices will be nothing like we have been using, I imagine proprietary connectors and atomizer systems will become the norm. It's the only way they could insure that the devices will perform as tested, with little to no input from the end user, as in, very limited adjustability. The regs only leave a very narrow path for approval from my limited understanding.

Vape devices will have to be very easy to use, and perform reliably and consistently to gain mass acceptance from current smokers, bacause, it's just too easy to pull out a stick, light it on fire and get their nic fix. Vaping will have to be just as simple to be an effective alternative.

That would be forever, if you've chosen your gear wisely. :D

It's funny to look at my own vaping history. When I started I just wanted something that worked and gave me a reasonable replacement for a cigarette. Back then, cig-a-likes were pretty popular and the Ego style, 600 or 800mah batteries were also around. They lasted lots longer than a cig-a-like.

But "evolution" happens and now I can't imagine how I managed to quite using those cig-a-likes. VV/VW followed by TC and RBAs have spoiled me, seriously. Somehow, even if the regs that eventually get passed limit things, I think it is a "normal" progression for most vapers. My X vapes, MTL tootle puffer, and always wants the kind of thing I vape with. I tried to help her with that, but she has no mechanical or electrical capabilities nor the patience to make things like that work. I do hope, for the sake of future generations, the regs include some way to allow for "bigger and better".

In the mean time, long live Evolv!

Could they at least drop the 250C chip first? Is that asking too much?

My take away from the videos....

1. 250C before Christmas

2. Evolv will start to make complete mods

3. Their mod will not be 510 based

4. They still believe in an open system, but a pod system is not out of the question

5. I think they will try for a TC ONLY system

Question: Do we think it's possible for a board to sense the wire type? Would a controlled application of power with a measurement of change in resistance result in an accurate detection of wire material?

The addition of a temp sensor would be awesome!

That reminds me of the Steam Crave FB group post where someone was looking for a single coil deck for the Aromamizer Plus...

A single coil deck in the Plus would be like this.

 :w00t:

Thats Funny :)
But! I run mine in Single coil mode, 1 Big fused Clapton right in the middle of the deck.
It works Freaken Awesome :)

The demise of the 510 is speculation, Steamer. but may have some basis. The only thing solid is the 250C by December. Hints, or innuendos, were made that Evolv may start making their own mods again. This seems to be an effort to attract more smokers to vaping. Exactly what the mods would look like, or work, is pure guesswork but something along the line of a pod mod isn't too hard to imagine.

Other than that, a tour of their plant, some interesting technology there, and their emphasis on safety of the devices over lowering costs. I gathered that if they took out all the safety stuff, the boards might be as low as 10 or 15 bucks (speculation on my part). I'll opt for the safety instead.
