Oh, it worked, it was that browser crashing when I checked it's version that got me going that way. I should have just let it be.
It does work flawlessly with IE though, I'm pretty sure my disabled ad blocker in Chrome was hanging it up.

That's strange it would crash from checking the version, who knows? As long as it working, right?

Hulu, Sling, NetFLix, Amazon, streaming, PC, tablet, phone. Man, I yearn for the "old days". Turn the TV on and watch. If you missed something you wanted to see, catch it on a re-run later in the season or rent a tape or DVD (for you younger folks).

Nostalgia is sometimes misleading, I remember it in a different light & those were dark times indeed... turning on the TV and there being no choice but to just watch whatever was on, 12 mins of commercials in a 30 min time slot, having to wait through hours of nonsense for your show to come on, TV's with cathode ray tubes inside that got the little "fox" watermark burned in, driving to a video store to rent vhs from some greasy kid who always forgot to stock the shelves. I don't miss any of that.

One cool thing I guess was my dad could always find some corrupt cable guy to get us those black box descramblers, which worked until they made cable digital. All my friends used to always want to spend the night & look at boobies. We had one of those giant projection TV monstrosities in the basement with the horrible picture & ribbed screen, & my dad would always tell us "stay off the smut channels while I'm gone" lol. We watched all the Tyson fights on that thing though, and the whole neighborhood would show up.

Yeah, there were downsides to the olde CRT days. Never had anything burn into one though. We still have a 32" in the basement that we watch tapes on while we're working out. One of these days I'll tap the cable for it. My friend owned a video store so we never had a problem getting tapes or DVDs, once they came along. I was the only one in the neighborhood to get over-the air subscription TV, before cable even, so we became a "hot spot" for a lot of events. It was simpler though, although having a VHS, Beta and DVD was a little nutsy, but it worked without having to figure out what show is on what service, or available from where to download. I wonder how much time gets spent finding and downloading? I know there are programs to do the search/download thing, but that's yet another layer of complexity to what should be the simplest process. The biggest problem is the crappy content today. "Reality" shows are anything but reality and most of the other stuff is nothing more than poorly re-cycled shows from years ago or bad versions of a good or decent movie. Hollywood is no different, "The Shape of Water" is a re-cycle of "Beauty and the Beast" with digital effects.

If you can't figure it out, you might want to try system restore

thanks, willy, but i'm back to normal - sort of ;) very puzzled though :?: background story:
back in the summer i ended up with a windows 10 hand-me-down laptop from my son (originally my birthday present to him :D). he claimed the video card must be going bad because the display would occasionally be distorted. anyhow, i played with the power settings and had no problems since last year september. fast forward to february - battery was no longer taking a charge and while i keep the laptop plugged in i ordered a new dell battery to have protection in case of a power failure. that battery showed a run time of 80 minutes or about half what i thought it should be; the seller agreed and sent a replacement. well, the new battery did not do any better.
then i had the glorious idea to let windows 10 choose the best setting for battery life and performance! with that the horror began - every few minutes the display would contract from right to left and then fix itself after 15 or so seconds before it started all over again! through trial and error i found my previous power settings and once i chose 'best performance' the problem stopped. at least, while plugged in! running on battery i still get the distortion but i decided a loss of battery life was the lesser evil and after conditioning the battery by fully discharging 3 times it'll stay plugged in from now on.
but i still can't figure out why having windows 10 choose the best settings created such a mess :?:

Any one know how to get rid of burnt Electronics smell from Plastic mod?
I had a mishap a while back, now there is a God awful smell in the box :(
I thought it would just go away, but it's not!
I tried to swab out the inside of the box with a Qtip soaked in nail polish remover.
It seemed to work but left over night the smells back :(
I can taste the bad smell right in the vapor!
It's a nice little box! but rendered basically useless cause of the smell :(

There has to be some way to get rid of the smell ??

I actually don't spend much time watching TV, probably only a couple of hours a week... but I do have this tinnitus thing in my ear that gets much louder the quieter things are, so I use it as background noise pretty much 24/7. but as far as spending time looking for stuff, if it's taking more than a couple of seconds for me to find something I just let Google assistant find it for me, "hey Google, play game of thrones season 3 episode 9". (don't do that btw, it's depressing [emoji22])

the reality shows thing, no idea what that's about lol, never been into it or watched any tbh. Unless cops counts.

Drop the whole thing in a bucket of mineral oil for like 24h, it can work for that sometimes & its not damaging to electronics, quite the opposite, actually I once built a (half gaming rig / half aquarium) w/ the rig part submerged in mineral oil for a (rich) friend/client lol.

It sounds like the gpu may be trying to draw more power than what the battery can put out, if you find out what kind of gpu it is, (device manager/display adapter) I can look into it for you or even do a remote desktop to check it out.

Also as an afterthought, on your psu, how many watts does it put out vs the battery? Or just give me what specs you can find.

Glad you got it better and found a work around. I don't care much for 10, I have 7 on my desktop which I use 95% of the time. But I have that small notebook to take out to the shop if I need it, that has 10 and the wife's computer is also 10, when she has trouble I have to figure it out so I'm forced to deal with and figure out 10 from time to time.

Do you know, where that power setting is, the power setting schemes, there is one for while plugged in and another for when on battery? On my notebook I have the plugged in setting to run screen at full brightness and everything thing else to max performance, when on battery everything is scaled back a little but neither is set to let win decide, letting win decide didn't work well for me either. The tiny round power connector on the notebook will sometimes loose connection while plugged in, it will stop charging and I'll suddenly see the screen had dimmed, that's when I know I need to wiggle the power connector. But the notebook also has a second power/charge connector, a mini-usb port for power in only and I use that more now that the round power plug that looses connection.

Ok so that is what I thought, it's an actual graphics card with also an integrated one built into the cpu, ideally the integrated one is supposed to take over once its on battery...

Give me a couple of hours once I get home I'll look into it for you, if it comes to it we can also do a remote desktop.

Can you coat it with something to seal it in? It's probably impregnated into the plastic now. Maybe try stripping it down and running it through an ultra sonic cleaner with some kinds of soaps, 1/2 teaspoon of lemi-shine original with a couple drops of Dawn is what I use for a cleaner in my UC, then run another couple cycles with fresh water. This is the Lemi Shine Original but I know I paid about half of what WM is selling it for https://www.walmart.com/ip/WX10X10019-GE-Dishwasher-Lemi-Shine-12OZ/332944175

Mike, what is that powder called that's used to clean coffee pots? Maybe that would work?

Sorry, all I can come up with.

Thanks for the, advise on my bad Smell.
The mod has a DNA75, I'm going to keep trying the nail polish remover for now.
If I cant get the Stink out like that, I guess I will have to strip it down again :(
Who would have thought this would turn out to be such a huge issue? :(
If It wasn't such a nice little box that cost close to $100, I would just remove the Chip & toss it :( The stink is That Bad!

UGH! I've lived with tinnitus for many years, all the loud shop noises and air tools. I do the same thing, I always have a radio or TV running, I sleep with the TV on, I can't stand a quite room. The hearing tests show I lost a couple of the higher end frequencies, when in a room with many people talking it's sometimes hard for me to understand what someone is trying to say to me, I hear them fine, it's just some words, to me will sound like another. During one thanksgiving dinner my daughter said to her mother, I got a new hat today and I piped in, You got another cat! Good lord how many do you need, are you starting a farm! The strange looks I got told me right away I got it wrong, I don't engage much at table anymore...

Again, we need a "commiserate" button. I've had tinnitus so long I can almost, note I say almost, ignore it completely. Sometimes it does get irritating though and it sure has cut my high frequency hearing, and hearing in general. I still hear low frequencies really well but conversation can be hard in a noisy room.

thanks and much appreciated! but unless an easy fix pops into your mind there's no need spending much time on a solution. i rarely travel with the laptop and it stays plugged in 95% of the time ;) and in case of power failure the generator should kick in from now on within a minute or so. :)
