Has anybody ever got caliper brakes to squeeze evenly? What a horrible design. Who invented those things anyway? Didn't like them on my 10 speed bicycle (when wet they didn't even work), didn't like them on my motorcycles, and I definitely don't like them on my automobiles. I even had a disc just snap right off of the hub and I barely just touched the brake. You think 18 wheelers hauling 40 tons are using caliper brakes? Not on your life! They are using good old fashion drum brakes.

Well trucks use air instead of hydraulic so there's also that, but I'm the exact opposite I hate the drums, plus braking performance-wise they get really hot, fill up with dust and can you imagine a modern car going relatively fast with all 4drums maybe a deer or person pops out onto the road, it would take quite a while to come to a dead stop.

My daily is a subaru that came with performance 3 piston (per front caliper) brakes, & holed rotors, it's pretty impressive how fast it can come to a dead stop, it's saved me from quite a few idiots on the road.

Btw I've been meaning to ask this but has anyone had issues with their vaping constantly setting off the smoke alarms, we just replaced the old ones per the home inspectors advice, & the new ones have been going off constantly.

Some smoke detecters use a light beam with a slightly offset receiver, the smoke/fog bends the light and bingo. I learned the hard way, 80 units of rich old folks filling out into the cold of night at 4 am. I talked the firemen into keeping quiet about my vaping setting it off.

BTW everything I type here indicates that it'spelled wrong...red underlined

Not to mention getting drum brakes wet and stopping in the next county. Fond memories of drums from the '60s and '70s, not. One of the best things they have done to cars is to go to disc brakes. I retrofitted karmann ghia disc brakes and dual cylinder master cylinder to my 71 bug and what a difference.

I have a tool like this, https://www.amazon.com/Rear-Disk-Brake-Caliper-Tool/dp/B000XEWZ9M It's made to turn and push the pistol on rear calipers that have the internal emergency brake built into it but you can also use it to straight push a piston back in, I've never used it that way but you can. For calipers without the e-brake system I use a huge pair of channel locks to push them in, you can also use a block of wood or old brake pad and a c-clamp. Usually, unless it's the e-brake type caliper, the first thing I do once the tire is off is just pry the piston back in with a big screw driver before taking the caliper off, while the old brake pads are still in it, that's the quickest and easiest way, just like this guy shows as the first way in the video.

I've had to replace more calipers that have the sliders rusted up then I have frozen pistons, don't think in the 25 years twisting wrenches for a living I saw more then a hand full of pistons frozen.

Would have expected that you rebuilt a pair rather than one, depending on why I guess

Disc pads and drum shoes should be replaced on both sides of a vehicle at the same time but when rebuilding/replacing calipers or slave cylinders this is not necessary as long as the other side is in good working order. Why rebuild or replace a good working part? Sounds like something a parts store would say to sell more parts.

This is typical of a used ss piston.
It can be cleaned up in most cases, I use to replace them till I learned how to clean them easily.

Dry and windy
ljc15, worked until I signed in,, bummer. :-x The only one I could get to "work" was newreflection for 5% off. :(
Cart total was over the $40 amount for free shipping but, would not take the click for the free shipping. Tried several times even signing out and back in again and doing the purchase again. :-x
Finally just went with the 5% off and NOT,clicking any shipping (because none of the options would take and high light) and completed the purchase. :(

What the "Thank You", final screen showed was 5% off and $11.60 shipping! Did a contact us and requested a cancel on the order and told them why. Now I wait to see what they do.

But,,,, Thanks for the codes anyway! :thumb:

According to a post in an underground vaping forum the Ulton TGT4 is made by Shenray and is the exact same thing.
Had I known this before I ordered the Ulton I could have saved $0.90 and had it half way here by now. The Ulton's from 2F are just slowly shipping their pre-orders.

Well shoot, is that what my calipers look like on my high milage vehicles? Yuck!
If my calipers aren't leaking or sticking does that hardened brake fluid effect the braking performance?
