Sitting down, facing forward.
We got a little rain this morning -

The first white column is at 5AM and the horizontal lines are in two inch increments. The blue line is total rainfall and the green line is rainfall rate. The "Precip. Rate" in the "stats" area is the current rainfall rate at about 7:20AM. It is starting to let up now, thankfully.

Just a "tad" wet here this morning. We, basically, had a heavy thunderstorm stall over us for almost an hour. Leo wan't a happy camper, he hates thunder.

in preparation for the arrival of my ebay find i pulled an original fixture from my stash and got to work. a couple of hours later my hands are sore but it's pretty much done ;) on the off-chance somebody here knows an easier way, especially for my hands, i'm ready to listen. i used white vinegar, salt, mean green, and finally oven cleaner. anybody with a better method for the second one that needs cleaning?

Well there is metal polish. It would be helpful to know what it is made of. That green corrosion makes me to want to say copper? Lots of things would make that shiny clean with a wipe or two. I thought Tarn-X would do copper too (and it does). But I found this and maybe you should stay away from that one.

never was a fan of tarn-x, bill ;) as to what it is, i'm not sure :?: as you said with all that green stuff forming there's got to be some copper. it's non-magnetic, stamped and very thin ......
Yeah I never use Tarn-X myself, just saw it on TV. Wow! You already know it is non-magnetic. Gee what a smart person you are. :) In the 70's in the Marines, we used Brasso for virtually anything metal. But Wikipedia says it is good to remove scratches on plastic too. Who knew? Probably a bit of work with something like Brasso, but it shouldn't be too bad. Yes it looks it is plated to me. Maybe plated with copper and underneath it is hard to guess.

If it doesn't work you can always grill the lamp parts. I like mine rare.

Brasso works well but can take some effort, and wear gloves. A tooth brush might help get into the little recesses. Another caution, and this is with just about everything, if that's plated be careful not to over do things, or just take it to a plater and get it re-plated.

No Kidding! I went downstairs to the frig and read the ingredients. Probably would have been faster checking online. I saw tomato paste and vinegar. Yeah that probably works. There was salt too. I am not sure if that helps. The rest of the ingredients I don't think helps to clean, but maybe. ;)

UPDATE:
Ingredients: Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste), Vinegar, Corn Syrup, Salt, Raisin Paste, Crushed Orange Puree, Spice, Dried Garlic, Caramel Color, Dried Onions, Potassium Sorbate (to Preserve Freshness), Xanthan Gum, Celery Seed.

done the vinegar and salt - very slow going :?: that's why i decided to risk the oven cleaner - had good luck with that on bronze in the past without destroying the original finish. from the feel of it i'd say it's tin but that wouldn't have that green oxidation

Amway metal polish was my goto for drum cymbals, all other brass got the Brasso treatment. As it is we've rid ourselves of just about everything in the house that would need polishing. The only thing that bugged us more than polishing metal objects was to look at tarnished metal objects.
