I've used Windows for 20 years now, starting with NT4. Going further back, it was OS/2, DOS, and CP/M. I've never been an MS hater. Oh sure, they made some duff versions like Vista and 8.0. But what they've done with 10 in terms of not letting you remove unwanted "features" is just a step too far.Oh noooooo, the visual of a bottom feeding penguin just flashed through my brain.
and a decent browser! i surfed with xp pro for over 2 years with no av protection but using ff and not a single problem!
but since ff gave up supporting xp in september i was forced to switch to windows 10
I feel your pain, personally I loved XP and hated to give it up. A jump from XP to 10, yikes! I went from XP to Vista, then to 7 last fall, I would have liked to have stayed with Vista but without any updates I had to change. I have 10 on my notebook and the wife has it on her laptop, not a big fan of it.
Windows 7 works fine.
Yes, I'm liking 7 better then 10, it was a good compromise between Vista and 10. Unfortunately the clock is ticking and I'll be forced to 10 when MS stops supporting it. Never thought I'd say it but maybe I should have gone with Mac from the start.

Mac or PC, whichever you prefer at the time. At home, Mac is sufficient for me because I quit gaming on a PC. At work, using a Mac would be an absolute joke. If they'd just let me build my own PC rig for work...

Oh, I don't question that a Mac would be sufficient. But if I didn't need Windows for certain work-related things, then a computer running Linux would also be sufficient, while costing much less. It would be made of commodity components of my choosing, which would make it far more upgradable and repairable as well.
All 3 OSs have their +/- points. I have made a good living supporting Windows so I do have a certain affinity for it. For sheer horsepower I would vote Linux, for user friendliness I would vote Mac, for widespread compatibility and familiarity I would vote Windows.
I've been in the MS/Windows box since the beginning, well after Commodore went the way of the Do-Do. DOS from 2.11, Windows from "Windows" to Win10. I have fooled with Linux, years ago, and may well go back to it. Win10 leaves me flat, it's Windows for Dummies type stuff and too many controls have been removed. It's on this craptop and I rue the day I upgraded from Win7/64/Pro on it. My desktop is still Win7/64/Pro and will stay that way until support for it is gone, then maybe Linux of some flavor.
Somehow I think all the re-arranging and changes to Windows are just a marketing gimmick by MS to keep the certification pool growing and certification dollars flowing. XP was rock solid and other than an upgrade to a true 64 bit OS would be fine today with additional tweaks rather than total re-writes of the core. The one I'll always remember as a true clunker was Millennium Edition, a dud from day one.
