You know Mike, I wouldn't have an issue buying an expensive bean roaster if I knew I could make good coffee? I fear the learning curve, would have me making a lot of "Bad Coffee" Till I got it right!
Besides the little coffee house makes good beans :) Life is too short to drink Bad Coffee!
I think roasting beans would be like building coils, not as easy as it sounds? Probably a lot of trial & error to get it down pat.

Hey Mike, does that mean you'll have more time for temperature testing?
And to work on my house, and to clean my coffee roaster, and fix the broken draft shield on the new scale I just got. Damn thing arrived with shattered glass, but the scale itself works just fine, and considering I got an $1800 scale for $140 I dont mind getting a couple sheets of glass cut. If it doesnt rain I will crank up the smoker next weekend, just built a new pit to reduce the logs into coals before putting them in the smoker, makes for sweeter smoke.

Not as bad as you think. There are only 2 or 3 things you can do that will ruin it beyond drinking, and they are easy enough to avoid. You quickly get to a point where its all good, and sometimes it is flat out fantastic.

I have finally emptied a peanut butter jar.
Want to try a little before I buy a nice container...gonna dump my coffee in it and try a batch of cold brew.
Thought I could make a concentrate and dilute to desired level...
I have got to get the acids in my diet knocked down. Have tried baking soda and even egg shells.
If it works, the trick will be to remember to make it every night

The bright side is no more 3 hour commutes on the weekends.

Amazon.com: Toddy Cold Brew System: French Presses: Kitchen & Dining

The thing about cold concentrate is it is good, but it doesnt quite have the aroma of fresh brewed, and aroma and taste are sort of linked. But if it keeps the reflux down then it might be your ticket.

I'll try it first low tech with a coffee filter and one of those flat plastic bread tie things.
Just to see if it even tastes halfway decent.
Very Course grind, even more course than you would for a French Press, and let it drip slow.

The last couple days I've stopped getting notices of new posts in threads I follow here, I unsubscribed and resubscribed with the box checked to get instant email notice but it didn't help, anyone else having this problem?

Any recommendations on a decent, sub $100 burr grinder for my Bodum, or does such a thing even exist? The Baratza's are a little too much here in Canada.

Opinions on a manual one? Are the ceramic blades any good or is steel a must?

Thanks!
Maybe Mike will chime in with some good advise, I bought several bargin grinders & none held up :( Do your self a favour & get this one Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder - Creative Coffee looks like it's 10% off today & free shipping :)
