Not currently, but I am talking about a better system. Paying doctors to keep people sick is really a sick system. I am talking about a free and open system where you can shop by price. Things would become very competitive and prices will drop drastically. Of course, not so good doctors will charge less and better doctors will charge more. Same with most things. As an Italian Lamborghini should cost more than a German VW, don't you think?

No, I disagree completely. A chicken in every pot and a Lamborghini in every garage, it is only fair.

[with any luck, a "sarc" tag will be unnecessary]

If this was Microsoft, the 'donut hole' would be a feature not a bug.

The big problem is the "donut hole". How the system was designed, and maybe when it was designed is a factor, with something like that is beyond my comprehension. That's what happens when our estimable legislators provide "help".

I just gotta say folks .......... I'm truly impressed that we adults discuss so many varied touchy topics without hostility.
And when Bernie talks about Canadian healthcare, you get the on the ground truth from us Canucks. BTW, to vote here we need federally approved ID.
@TrollDragon I see you appreciated my post on Rabbit pie over there. We'll be getting a bag of ground moose meat next week for mincemeat pies. ;)
Awesome! I'll take moose over deer meat any day of the week, those will be some mighty fine mince pies.

ok, willy ;) let me get to the bottom of this in my mind - i'm assuming now that you were eligible for medicare because of disability (this is another guess on my part because of the things you shared here) but you kept your private insurance till it was no longer feasable. why? as far as i understand the system, there would have been deductions for medicare insurance no matter if you used it or not :?:

Ugh, as hillary said, At this point, what difference does it make? We are still where we are at because of OC no matter how you want to slice it. And no, I never paid for medicare until I was forced to take it, by the OC law I was not allowed to buy the private BC bronze plan for myself. Why would I want the BC over medicare? Why wouldn't I?? It was a great plan, the same plan I use to carry for us when I was twisting wrenches, why the heck would I "want" medicare???

OK, I'm packing the car now.

ETA: Can you pick me up on the edge of the river on your side? Wondering if I should pack the canoe or not. (Oh, and I've got some extra beer money now...)

Made a run to the big city today, one of my stops was at the big scrap yard there where they give top dollar. My annual clean out of the shop to get rid of old brake rotors, exhaust parts and such I had packed the back of my Jeep. Got there and they spotted the old cat converter I changed on the Jeep this summer, they set that off to the side, I told them I didn't expect they were worth much these days and I wasn't that worried about it but the guy said, "Never know, we'll weigh it, you might be surprised". Went inside when done, I got $60 just for the converter! The new converter only cost me $48, I made money replacing my converter! I would have been happy to just get the junk the hell out of my way, walked out with $84.90 in my pocket. :)

i'm sure with all you went through you were entitled to disability? if yes, then medicare was automatically deducted from your check ;)

Willie, what's wrong with you? The government knows best what's good for you.
Yeah, so they keep telling me, I'm been living all wrong, if only I would "submit". They say I'm a danger to myself and others owning guns, I should dress in drag on weekends to show I'm not homophobic, become a vegan, the bible is fiction, stop with the "conspiracy theories" because UFO's are not real even though now they say that they are (I'm so confused), take down my flag and burn it, scrap my car and walk, voluntarily give what money I have to the government. Only then will I be worthy and achieve true happiness. (Did I miss anything? I'm sorry if I did) Oh yeah, well that reminds me. I should be much more apologetic and sympathetic to others and their "feelings". Not speak any more then absolutely necessary because I'm always wrong anyways.

Sitting down, facing forward.
See where Massachusetts just passed a bill, assembly and senate passed waiting for commissar to sign, making flavors illegal, adding a 75% tax to everything vape related (except if it's for use with cannabis) and allowing confiscation of cars, boats and planes, in some cases, for violations? What a country!

Remember this guy, professor at MIT Jonathan Gruber, a main architect of Obamacare? Remember this startling admission after the bill was passed? How they lied and cheated to get it passed? But they had to pass it without ONE Republican vote because the Republicans knew what was in the bill. The lies and cheating, it was all to fool us, the (stupid) American people, they intentionally lied to us. From Gruber's mouth, quote;

"You can't do it political, you just literally cannot do it. Transparent financing and also transparent spending. I mean, this bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes the bill dies. Okay? So it’s written to do that," Gruber said. "In terms of risk rated subsidies, if you had a law which said that healthy people are going to pay in, you made explicit healthy people pay in and sick people get money, it would not have passed. Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really really critical to get for the thing to pass. Look, I wish Mark was right that we could make it all transparent, but I’d rather have this law than not."

Just want to make one thing clear on my personal views, I'm not against all Dems and I'm not for all Repub's, there are dirty rotten crooks in both parties but there are far more in and leading the Dem party then the Repub party. I was first a Dem, then a Repub, damn near went Independent a few years ago because the Repub's were almost as bad, same path my Father took.

I look forward to the day when ALL representatives do the peoples work! I look forward to the end of all the hate and division, we are not born with it, it's indoctrination, hate is learned, look at what's going on in our grade schools right on through college. I look forward to mutual respect, debating diverse opinions and working together for ALL of US, not to enrich those in office. It's going to take weeding out the crooks and making a lot of changes to prevent the temptations from being an incentive to serve just to line your pockets. Start with term limits and cut off profiting because of your position while in office, they are there to serve us. If they are looking to line their pockets with riches then need to go elsewhere. And anything that's "good enough" for us, the people, will have to be good enough for them too! No special benefits like golden health care plans for them that only they are entitled to, they should have to live with the same plans we are stuck with.
