First and foremost I have to say that I am very thankful for forums and sites like these, and luckily finding this after almost clicking and ordering a "free" trial while elsewhere on the net. I haven't been lurking for too long, but long enough that Im convinced and ready to get off regular smokes (analogs?)...still trying to get the terminology down :)

Until I found the forum or even looked into e-cigs, much like everyone else I had no idea of how much information and different options there are, very overwhelming! Reminds me much like when I got into salt water tanks... overwhelmed with information from the start. All I wanted was info and the know how to keep a clownfish alive, so why were people talking to me about monstrous equipment and upgrades when all i needed was the basics? Because its just that, basics! Eventually that reefing bug will bite, and you'll want a better experience :)

So I definitely get it, the mods and different options, hardware, brand names out there, but yet here I am asking noob advice on where to start! Ive been a smoker for about 16 years...for awhile it was 2 packs a day of camels and as of the recently about down to slightly less than a pack a day of m.lights. So even though im not as heavy of a smoker as i use to be, id still love to finally get that monkey off my back. What I THINK I am looking for is something economical. Unfortunately I don't have 150 bucks to drop right off the bat, and being in IT i don't mind tinkering with something. Size really isn't much of a concern either, one thing ive learned from the forum is the closer it looks to be real, the worse it performs.

Wow, this turned into a novel, sorry :) So thats about it, any suggestions on how and where to start would greatly be appreciated!

You could go either ways depending on budget and dedication:

-Basic 510 kits (tanks or cartos) and do the same learning curve we all did,or
-Jump right away to a real PV with 900mah,1000mah or 1100mah batteries so you dont get held on certain devices to screw on top of them.

Cartos are cool when you start (plastic cartridge with filler inside) but they get old fast;
Tanks (eGo style) work well for a while (most kits today comes with them) make sure you realise that you WILL try something else soon after (clearos, tanks, etc)

And get reasonable quantities of juice, try to target what you like, cigarettes flavors can be a downer, dont go overboard on them.

Howdy neighbor and welcome to ECF, I'm down in the Akron area. If you can swing a bit of a drive I'd suggest you make a trip down to New Philadelphia and visit the Altsmoke shop. They've got a good number of options from basic 510's to some really good mods and a few different ones in between. You can check them all out before you buy that way.

If that's not an option you might want to consider an eGo. It'll give you a long lasting battery, a standard 510 connection, and not too expensive. Be sure to pick up enough juice to last a while. One of the newbie mistakes to avoid is running out of juice in the first couple of weeks and having to go back to analogs until a juice order comes in. Figure you'll vape around 3 ml/day and purchase enough to get you through a couple of weeks so you'll have a little time to decide what you like but enough time to order more before you run out.

Hi, and welcome to ECF.
Kgo kit or E-power 18650 kit will do for you. That, and some good LR cartos, boge or smoktek. Single coil cartos are more flavorful than dual coil, at least for me. But some loves dual coils. So, I think you should try them too.
Try some sample packs from several e-juice vendors to find your 'spot'.

You got it right - stick to basics now, worry about mods and such later once you have some experience.

Don't overanalyze it. You can't go wrong with a basic 510 system. I started with the AquaVapor 510 kit with PCC. I ordered theirs for two reasons. First, this was one of the few 510 kits that used cartomizers instead of atomizer/cartridges. Second, because they have a good deal on a liquid sample pack: 10 10ml bottles for about $30. That's a lot of juice to get you started. If you want a bigger battery, go with the eGo.

No matter what you do, you'll be ordering something different later. So just do it and get off those analogues. I'm 2 days smoke free now and this is the best decision I've made since I quit playing golf. ;)

Please at least consider this starter kit. It's a true 3.7 PV with non-proprietary batteries, comes with 2.0 cartos, and large enough batteries to allow you to try come customization later. One battery will last you throughout the day. It's fair priced, comes from a forum supplier, in stock, and will have enough oomph to get you off analogs. It's also a economic first PV in that it will work well for you until/if you decide to really get into mods.

As a pretty new person here myself, I know there are alot of people that like different things, so the only basic thing I have to say is be SURE you get a MANUAL battery with whatever you buy! I started off with the 'Blu' which has an automatic battery and I could get through even one cuppa joe in the mornings without having to change the battery! Yes, getting a manual means it's going to be thicker than an analog, and you have to push a button when you inhale, but that took me all of 5 seconds to get used to...and I've been smoking analogs for 31 years. I, personally, have gone with the eGo because I can add on to it as time goes by if I want. But for now it's doing me just fine, and the first battery lasted me 3 days.

Nice first post, welcome to ECF! I have had reef tanks myself, so I know what you're talking about!

I stated with a 510, but in a week I was already looking for longer battery life. I ended up getting a Riva 510 starter kit (Lite Bundle) from Liberty Flights ($30 if you press the 20% off discount in the upper left of their page). Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510 The battery lasts a lot longer and it still fit the atomizers and cartomizers I had bought for my 510. I didn't like cartridges with atomizers, so I started getting into cartomizers. My current favorites are the Boge 2.0 ohm matched with my Riva battery. They have them at LF, here, but you can probably find them cheaper. Electronic Cigarette - Cartomizers - Boge Cartomizers

Let me just say that the Kgo, Riva, and ePower are all good starter kits, especially the ones that come with cartos in the kit instead of carts, and they are all 3.7 PVs. I give the edge to ePowers because of the non-proprietary batteries.

The problem right now is that a very large percentage of PVs come from China. China is in the middle of the New Year (Year of the Dragon) which runs from January 23 to Feb 9. The suppliers from China take most of this time off and there have been no deliveries from China for awhile as the ordering cutoff was well before January 23. I have heard that some suppliers will resume shipping on January 31, but you would still have to allow time for it to ship from China, and then time for it to ship to you from the US supplier.

All this is why I have been recommending the ePower PV to new members. Hoosier got his new stock in before the cutoff. It is the only one I have found available with cursory searching....

There have been many times in my life when I did not have $150 to put out easily, especially when spending $300/month on cigarettes as I was. Fortunately I was in a good financial position when I found out about e-cigs and this forum, a year and a half ago. I tried dozens of different flavors and over a period of about 8 months gave up regular cigs completely. I had smoked 2 packs of Kools a day for 30 years, now the thought of one disgusts me.

Hopefully you will be one of those people who drops analogues immediately and goes happily vaping along. I am responding because I have to say that honestly, based on my initial experience, after spending about $125 on an ego kit and some juices, I probably would have gone back to analogues if money were a big issue. Hope this helps. Others here can better tell you how best to economize. Good luck

I was stoked to find that the kit had arrived in the mail yesterday after only ordering it friday afternoon! Granted, it only had to ship from PA to OH, well done ecigg.org for the prompt service. My wife said I looked like a kid on Christmas morning on how quickly i tore through the box to set things up.

All I can say is, where the hell have I been and not discovered this sooner? It was more or less love at first vape, although, maybe it was because of the 24mg of the Marlboro flavor that came on the prefilled carts that got me loopy :) Ive already gone down to using a 16mg cherry juice that i ordered, the 24 is just too much for me. My wife and I both don't smoke in the house, so to be able to vape from the couch or anywhere else for that matter was almost mind blowing.

I can honestly say that I enjoy this much more than I do analogs, perhaps its the fact that I hated smoking but loved the thought of it at the same time(which has always been my downfall in years past)...so I was a little skeptical going into it. I went from a skeptic yesterday afternoon to a believer today when I realized that my morning routine of that first cig of the day while I let the dogs outside went to just letting the dogs outside.

So far its been almost 17 hours since my last analog, which is hard for me to believe! I still have a little urge to go light up, but overall I feel pretty damn good about my chances.

Thank you all again for the suggestions and contributing to a forum like this!
