Anyone out there now actively exercising since they have started vaping? If so have you experienced increased lung capacity? Are you feeling effects from vaping i.e. dizziness, shortness of breath, or pain while doing cardio related exercises? I am looking to start running again and while I know I can just get out there and see, I am trying to find out if symptoms that I might run into are related to the 2 years I have been smoking again or should I expect issues from vaping.

I am a runner and have only experienced positive changes. Although I was never a heavy smoker, I have no doubt that my lung capacity and pulmonary function have noticeably improved. This was confirmed recently at my annual appointment with an allergist. I never experienced any of the negative effects you mentioned, other than soreness, which I can attribute to not properly stretching beforehand (lazy!).

As long as you don't have any other physical problems that may be an issue, I would just make sure to warm up properly and start out slowly - and see how you feel after the first couple of runs......then adjust accordingly.

I was about a pack and a half a day smoker for 20 years. I was always a runner and did extensive cycling. I average 25-30 miles a week running and another 50 on the bike. I mix in some swimming and spinning when it gets cold. After I began vaping I noted a steady decrease in my mile splits and this is attested to by my garmin training watch which keeps statistics for me. I have shaved about 90 seconds off my base mile pace. I am now training for a half marathon in the spring and possibly a half triathalon in late April.

I'm glad to finally see another runner or potential runner on this site. I posted something similar back when I started and didn't get much response. I chalked it up to the idea that most smokers or former smokers just weren't into endurance athletics.

If you aren't currently running, you wont' know whether or not the vaping or the quitting smoking has helped you in an empirical sense because you have nothing to compare it to. But since you've made this big change in your life by quitting the smoking, it seems like a no-brainer that you'd try to improve your health through exercise. It sounds like you may have been a distance runner before so you should already know that running is all about gradual improvement. Start slow, take rest days, and have moderate goals and you will be just fine. A great place to get an idea is to google "running your first 5K". They will have a schedule for you to work up to being able to run 3.1 miles non stop. You might find that 3 miles about 3-4 times per week is all you need or you might find that you love running enough to go further.

One other thing I noticed upon switching from smoking to vaping is a huge increase in apetite. The exercise will off set any weight gain until that phase passes. Good luck

SIC0 sir can't comment on exercising, but can on my overall health. Been almost a year since my last analog, lung capacity has improved, not coughing as much, and according to my physical 3 months ago my overall health is vastly improved from the prior year.... That's with vaping a redonkulous amount a day at 36mg...

Great information all, thank you for taking the time to answer. I am excited to get back into running. I have been on atkins for about 2 mos in the induction phase. I have lost 20 pounds but now even at less than 20 net carbs a day the diet has gone stagnant. I know exercise will boost it. Ill let you all know when I do my first 2 miles again. I know I can do 1, did so about 3 months ago but man were my lungs hurting from smoking. <3 Thanks again everyone!

Yeah, me totally, even though she was from the evil class of 2009! She would have analyzed the hell out this question; there would be graphs, equations, and enzyme production ratios per km, etc.......

I miss her and many others :-(

Re OP: I am in ten times better shape since I quit Oct 1, 2009 - lift weights, run, ski, hoops, FOOTBALL; feels great!

Thanks Sally, glad you're still around. I don't have much to add to the forum anymore, but seeing Darri hit the 2 yr mark and the mention of Adrenalynn, I got a little nostalgic for some of the old gang. Take care, have a great holiday!

I envey you runners, I'm not able to due to bad circulation in these old legs. However, I have been doing water exercises for i hr. twice a week. By the time I got home and had dinner, I was so tired that I always fell asleep in my chair for the first 4 years. 2 years ago I started vaping and now I never sleep in the chair...not tired a bit when I get home; in fact after the holiday's I will increase the excercises to 4 times a week. Because of the increase in lung capacity, I'm now able to swim under water the length of the pool (25 yds)...could never do that 4 years ago! By the way, the pool is indoor...swim all year around. Think I'll move my bed to the water!!! LOL I'm one of these old clowns that smoked almost all of my life (age 80) Good grief, why in the hell am I still alive???

You're still alive because you TOTALLY ROCK RVER! I'm pretty sure I would be unable to quit smoking at age 78, pick up vaping, and start swimming laps at 80. You are a true inspiration to us all - I remember having a great deal of admiration for you and Paw Paw when I was starting out, glad to see you still standing strong. Thanks for weighing in, keep up the great work!
