I stumbled onto this forum a week after ordering my first ecig. I, like many others, fell into the green smoke marketing trap, now, i await the arrival of it any day now, but after finding this site, i see i made a bad choice going with green smoke.

So, now im left with a couple questions about the whole process and green smoke in general.

I know green smoke gets a bad reputation. This appears to be due to.

  • Poor batteries
  • proprietary parts
  • Inflated prices
  • Poor service
  • the auto cutoff (which supposedly no longer applies)

However, these issues don't effect my first experience with an ecig. I can deal with constant [long] recharging, the prices are simply a lesson learned, if it breaks down i will get something else. (should point out returning it is not really an option because i stupidly decided to load up on cartridges thinkin "im going to give this a legitimate shot" and as a result, keep or return, im still out $100)

What i'm most concerned with is - can GS replace/augment my standard cigarettes (pack a day - dunhill - 14ish years). If i find it cant - how big of a difference would it make to try a different model/brand?

Im already debating getting an eGo or screwdriver before my green smoke even arrives! just because im afraid green smoke wont be indicative of ecigs in general. And, if i ordered today, it would probably show up before my GS because i can order from a Canadian retailer. (yes, im Canadian, but dont hold it against me)

Thanks all.

Well, try it first.

If you like the simplicity of a 2-piece cartomizer system, then I'd recommend you try a Kr808D-1. The kits and parts are common and cheap, and the cartomizers are easy to refill (I've heard refilling the Green Smoke cartomizer is a HUGE pain).

The Kr808D-1 batteries last longer, and the cartos perform better.

If you want to try a 3-piece system, then the eGo is a great model. And the 510 atomizer (which is what the eGo batteries use) is famous for great vapor production.

I think you'll find that although it may have some weaknesses that have made it not be one of the more popular brands, it will be good enough to give you an idea of what vaping is like. The reviews I've seen for it are mixed, so I don't think you'll have a completely negative experience. For all you know, you'll be one of the people who love it. :D

I looked at the GS website and can't determine what models they carry. They may be proprietary but I'm not sure. You could try canceling your order. If you've got that much invested with no chance of canceling or returning it just give it a try. You don't have anything to lose at that point. You can always give it to a friend when you're done and have moved on to a better model. As far as replacing or supplementing your current pack a day, the GS may or may not work to replace but I'd say it will at least decrease the amount you smoke. It depends on the strength of the juice in the carts more than anything. Personally I'd wait for the GS, since you seem to be committed to it financially, before making another purchase. Others may disagree with my logic however so get a few opinions before you make a decision.

Green Smoke is okay and for the most part you'll be happy with them. They do have a one year warranty on their batteries which is nice and they replaced one for me with no hassle. Customer Service is fair ... I think they are used to a lot of hostility and just talking nice will go a long way with them. And, I have to credit GS with getting me off cigarettes.

Over-priced? Yes. But there are many out there that charge even more than Green Smoke.

Cartomizer flavors are very good. Their Coffee and TobaccoM Red Label is about as good as you'll get anywhere else.

Here's the BIG problem with Green Smoke. About one-third to one-half of the cartomizers will work and the rest you'll have to toss. And THAT is EXPENSIVE! They will be plugged up to the point where you can't draw through them, dried out, or the end cap is shoved half-way down into the carto. Pure crap.

I started with Green Smoke and then went with the KR808D-1 as recommended by MistressNomad. My wife, who smokes much less than I do took over the Green Smoke and about that time we began having issues with the cartos. The cartos are E-9 or KR808D-2 (not D-1) and I think they are available at e-cig.com and other suppliers. You might want to check others out for cartos.

Now, about the KR808D-1. I got mine from Vapor4Life-Because it's your life - E-Cigarettes/Smoking Alternatives (but again, there are numerous good suppliers) and I couldn't be happier. I use either their Premium or WOW Vapor cartomizers and generally get the blanks so I can fill my own (with the condom method or syringe). I've found my favorite and I just don't need anything else.

Hope all this info is of some help to you.

Forgot to mention, a bunch of Canadians helped some U.S. guys get out of a bad situation in Tehran a long time ago ... I'll never forget that. And if I see a vehicle with that oak leaf on the license plate those folks have a friend here in Texas!

Welcome to the forum Etch & welcome to my world. Like you I bought the Greensmoke (GS) & about $100 worth of cartridges and an extra battery. The battery life is just OK but it probably won't take you long to get tired of having to recharge it. I constantly had a battery on the charger and there were sometimes when I would have one go dead before another was charged up. I won't complain to much because I've been analog free for 50 days (except for 4 small puffs on my sister's cig at the 30 day mark). I stopped the day I got my GS. IMO the cartridges don't last as long as they advertise & it's true what someone else said about some of the cartridges being DOA. You can refill them with juice and there are some good videos I've seen on this forum showing you how.
I switched over to an eGo after about 3 weeks and have never been sorry. Really long battery life. I like them so much in fact that I now have 4 of them as well as 2 chargers, tons of liquid and am stocking up on attys. Being paranoid :p may have something to do with my stocking up as well. If you spend time on the computer you may look into a passthrough. I bought one from LeCig that uses the GS (kr808d-2) cartridges. I think it was only $14. I'll hang onto the GS batteries and that way if someone is interested in trying it out, I'll have something to share cause I sure as heck won't give up my eGo).

Thanks to all for your responses.

If i find vaping can come anywhere close to smoking analogs, i have no doubt ill dive head first into dripping, DIY juice, passthroughs and more. But i wont do that until i know vaping is for me.

Based on what everyone is saying - the GS will give me a decent sampling of what im getting into. If i don't like vaping in general, its unlikely a different brand will help that. But, if my issues are all logistical (poor batteries, crap carts, etc), then an upgrade might do the trick.

The nicotine content might be an issue...i got the 16mg which might be a little low..but again, this is very much a trial run for me, so we'll see.

Thanks again everyone.

Etch - Don't worry about the nicotine quite yet.

A lot of people who smoked like me were vaping 24mg. I had 18mg cartos in my kit. I almost bought 24mg liquid to go with it.

So glad I didn't. 18mg is PLENTY for me. It's as high as I can go. 24mg makes me feel sick.

The weird thing about this is that the nicotine dose that's right for you doesn't always correlate with how you smoked. There are ultralight smokers where who can't vape anything less than 24mg. There are 3-pack-a-day smokers who can't vape over 16mg.

It's very much trial and error.

Smokeless Cigarettes | Electronic Cigarettes | E-Cig sells both the batteries and cartomizers as D-2. They are a great company and offer free shipping and good prices. I have two D-2 batteries and actually like them better than the D-1. I think they offer more power altogether, but I am heavily invested in the KR808, so I don't often order the cartomizers. If it were easier to find them at a reasonable price and in more flavors, I would use it much more often. Personally, I think the OP will be very happy with the GreenSmoke.

I just started with Green Smoke (same as you ..most advertised ecig so I jumped). Battery life is short, I got some replacements from lecig that work a lot better. Get a couple of usb pass through and you'll be happier with that result. I tried vaping 11mg but soon kicked it up to 18. Better TH and taste. The Green Smoke is a rip but I've been able to refill the carts with juice from freedomsmoke and the result is pretty good. I'm hoping the KR808-D2 becomes more popular because so many of us fell for the green Smoke hype (wishful thinking perhaps?). Lecig also sells empty carts that you can fill if the carts from GS don't give you good results.

Honestly if it even puts out a small puff of vapor you will get an idea of what you think about vaping. I had a Blu and its by no means great, but it confirmed that this works for me. If you read too much you might convince yourself you are unhappy with something even though you aren't.

Enjoy it and see what you think. If you love it trust me it won't be the last PV you buy.

I agree, it's not something you can be hasty with. I almost gave up on it immediately because I got a bad tasting juice with my kit. It has a learning curve and you kinda need to toy with it for a bit before you can made a choice one way or the other. It took me trying a few different juices before I decided vaping was for me.

Don't feel forced to go into it "whole hog" either and toss out your cigs immediately and the like. Even if you played little games with it like using it every other time you smoke, you're still saving your life. Every cig you don't smoke is a victory for your health. If you end up smoking a few cigs a day don't beat yourself up.
