I always stayed away from "crank it up" contests at Ken's Stereo Junction locally. It was crazy looking at everyone with shooter's ear plugs in their ears watching the judges huge DB display on the large screen.

Mech vaping is beginning to become a lot like high watt subwoofer car stereos. Just because you can white out a room doesn't make it desirable to do so, especially in public, but that's where we have come to at this point.

I'd hate to think that too many episodes like this could cause anything bigger than an eGo Twist to become illegal!

I'd Like to see the General Public's Perception of vaping be more about Harm Reduction and people Quitting Smoking than Who can Blow the Biggest Cloud.

But ya, if your going to put on Contests, it wouldn't hurt to Try and make them Safe.

Yeah I don't want it to seem that I'm Hating on the sub-culture cause I'm not...But whoever puts on the contest should structure it so that safety is paramount.

You mean the ego twists that go into thermal runaway far more often than mods?

I know the ANTZ won't see it this way, but making all mods illegal because a few idiots is like banning Acuras because kids like to street race them... IMO

Besides, the simplicity of a mech mod makes it impossible to totally outlaw... Easily enough you could make your own, and it would likely be a ton less safe than what is on the open market now. Again, IMO

I agree.

Putting on a Cloud Blowing Contest to me is Kind Stupid. It would seem to Invite people to Push their Batteries Too Far.

Couple that with Many People who Aren't all that Knowable about Ohms Law, and Some B&M who will sell Anything to Anyone ...

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/590877-what-did-i-buy.html

... and you have a Very Bad Mix.

Does anyone know what the Requirements were to Enter this Cloud Contest? Or was it just Show Up and Biggest Cloud Wins?

And was the Person who's Mod Exploded Actually in the Contest? Or was it just Guy with a Mod?

I'm not a fan of cloud competitions or sub ohm, BUT in this case, the facts as I've read:

1) he was NOT a competitor
2) coil resistance unknown
3) battery unknown
4) mod = mutant
5) topper unknown

As I see it, it's just a case of user error/stupidity/carelessness. Nothing to do with the competition or sub ohming.

I can say One Thing.

There is a Very Good Chance he is a Member of this Forum.

I would love to hear what Actually Happened. And what Ohms / Battery he was using before his Mod Exploded.

Sounds about right to me.

Unfortunate for the person who owned the mod.
Potentially devastating for every vaper now and in the future.

Now for the conspiracy; ANTZ plot to bring negative attention to our community? Could be. Or just douche baggery?

I want to know about the MOD.

VENT HOLES PEOPLE! In the mod. Have vent holes. Use a blow-out plug (pointing away from your face) if you must (there are recommendations about slots).

...

Yeah... I would To.

I also like that you said "Vent Holes" and Not "Vent Hole".

Because if a Battery Swells in a Tube, a single Vent Hole on the End Cap may be Worthless.

How is it not about sub-ohming? Ok, we don't know what the resistance was, but If the mod had pocket fired with a 1 ohm plus build, wouldn't the the battery have been much less likely to explode?

1-5 have little to do with the last sentence, other than Carelessness, and the mod was very likely set up sub ohm causing the catastrophic overload.

My son had his for a whopping 4 days when the B&M asked he return it for another Mod. They voluntarily recalled all of them to return to the manufacturer. DEFECTIVE SWITCHES
An Extreme Low Load could easily Spot weld the exposed magnets together.

Nothing against safe(SMART) Sub ohm Vaping but there are things people need to understand.

The Don't Vape Sub ohm / Vaping Sub ohm ARGUMENT is a pissing contest that has nothing to do with using proper equipment in a fashion it was intended to be used with regard for personal and public safety.

Time to realize there is a difference.

B1sh0p, you could set a better example than simply shouting Sub Ohm is Safe. Knowing what to do Does Matter.
Dragsters are relatively safe - IF you have experience. ;)
