Photos and comments have been all over the web for days, predictably so. Playing a game of pretend that the explosion did not happen by placing one's head firmly in the sand with .... prominently in the air will do nothing to help with ANTZ.

Taking effective action to try to prevent repeat performances of the the explosion requires facts. The promoters have chosen not to share those facts leaving, any prevention efforts to the tender mercies of speculation.

I hear ya, but I doubt the promoters have any more facts about what happened than we do right now. IMO their interests are probably better served by staying quiet. They certainly have nothing to gain by trying to help vapers or the vape industry. We're on our own here.

I have seen no disagreement that the explosion happened in close proximity to the cloud contest. That means the promoters/and or their employees were right on the spot. If they don't know what the mod/battery were and whether or not the mod and/or its switch had been user modified it is willful ignorance.

I am not sympathetic to the argument that the promoters should not help the community that has put bread on their table. :(

Quickly searched a couple pages through of results on google and I can't find any 26650 LG cells at all. I don't think 26650 LG batteries even exist. I of course could be wrong, but ya think it would have come up somewhere before the fifth page of results or so...

The green has got to be Sony. Either the real deal, knockoffs, or these shady green batteries I just found on Ebay with my search, but the tint of green in the pick is real "matchy matchy" with Sonys.

Those actually ARE NOT "SHADY" batteries, in any way shape or form.

They are made by the MOLI Corporation, based out of Canada.
Vappower IMR 26650 4200 mAh These high drain batteries come from a collaboration of engineers from the Canadian battery company, MOLI, and a factory in China. Produced on automated machines. Rated Capacity 4200 mAh Maximum Continuous...

The truth hurts, doesn't it?
How exactly is that "truth"?This was definitely not a "pipe bomb".I dont see how u can even compare the 2 things together.I'm pretty sure a pipe bomb would of caused alot more damage. These types of buzz words are just bad in general.I guess everything is a pipe bomb then.If i drop my lighter on the ground and it explodes...PIPE BOMB.If i'm cooking a drop some frozen food into hot oil and it spits hot oil everywhere...PIPE BOMB.If you search vape blast 2 on google this thread comes up as the second result. Why even try to bring all this negativity to vaping with this bs click bait.Lets look at the original post again.

"some cloud chasing doofus essentially set off a pipe bomb at Vape Blast 2014 in San Antonio."

I see zero truth in that post except for the location and year of the event.
But lets keep comparing ecigs to pipe bombs and ejuice as liquid poison. This is great for us vapers.

Believe it or not we heard about it all the way down in Egypt!!!...at a time when we're trying to convince the authorities that it's OK to vape and that they shouldn't ban the entry of vaping gear and e-liquid into the country!...thanks to this irresponsible idiot the issue is now global and we can all expect to be subjected to a global witch-hunt!!

The only upside to this is that some of the young kids that jumped all of a sudden from the ego sticks to the mechanicals and hold these cloud chasing sessions to impress the girls can now take things seriously..they can hurt themselves and hurt people around them. I seriously think that all vaping items, including batteries, should have a leaflet explaining the dangers and how to avert them. A shop owner should go the extra mile and have his staff explain to customers who buy mechs or RBAs these dangers..it's better for everybody and better for business.

As for this ...... on youtube, this guy should be institutionalized or reported to his family or the authorities. He is not only endangering himself, he is also endangering people living with and around him. If this thing explodes or causes a fire the consequences will be devastating, and we don't need a fatality to start acting!

I apologize if this sounded a bit too angry..but I for one, don't use my stingray except after my wife and kids are in bed..and i rarely have a build that is lower than 1.3 ohms..and I just hate it when people act irresponsibly.

Why do I have to go to someone's profile to add them to the idiot list?

Don't apologize. I think most of us responsible vapers are a bit angry over this stupidity. Vape shops should have classes. Pamphlets aren't going to carry much weight with these kids. Sadly, this event probably won't make a lot of them think twice either. Just look at how many people have called the :censored: on YouTube out. His response? Post 5 more videos showing that ohm's law & battery specs are just suggestions... & that it's ok to go a little above those numbers. Close counts, right?

I'm not sure what irks me more ... how dangerous he is vaping ... or that freakin haircut.

I really hate to admit it, but he actually reminds me of a doofus ex-boyfriend from high school. Guess my standards were lower then. :D But at least my doofus ex-bf could speak clearly!

Just a thought... Event staff have probably been gag ordered by their legal Council. Kind of like a simple car accident. Even a simple statement of apology can be twisted into a perceived admission of guilt. That would leave them liable for tons of lawsuits. I'm sure in time all the details will come to light.

Sounds more like you are trying to defend stupidity with semantics.
No one said it was a well made pipe bomb. An explosion of a pipe shaped device which sends forth projectiles. i.e. pieces of shrapnel(Battery parts included) is a Pipe Bomb.
A Battery Venting is a battery sitting and pushing out Gasses developed from an internal short boiling out the chemicals.

There is definitely a difference.

I'm not trying to defend stupidity at all.I'm positive this guy was extremely stupid.Post like these are just bad for us vapers. If you want to say some idiot vented his battery and his mod exploded then thats fine but calling it a pipe bomb is just stupid imo and is not helping anyone except for the anti vapers.

Cheers

The reports certainly indicate the power of the explosion. Sure, an actual pipe bomb is *designed* to kill and maim and an exploding mod may or may not have such a devastating effect, but it was a pipe that exploded.
If you all want to play semantics and point fingers at guys with funny haircuts, fine. I choose to see that I, we, have gotten collectively pretty stupid about this and hope that a few more see it too before somebody gets killed and the hammer *really* comes down. Nobody, and I mean nobody can sit there and say that they're above all this.

Is he on a crusade of some sort against physics and commonsense??

1. As someone else has said in answer to your question, their lawyer almost certainly gagged them, for VERY good reason.

2. Several people, including eyewitnesses, have said he was standing right next to the cloud contest but was not eligible because the contest was for a different setup than his setup. From that I derive that he was a spectator. I saw other cloud contests in that same spot that weekend and there were more spectators than contestants for the contests, though not by much.

3. What can they say that would help us? Phil Busardo and Battery University already have the info we need, except for mug shots of the idiots of the world, and from this thread I gather YouTube is garnering an unintended collection of those. Phil said the mod appears to be missing.
