10 second cutoff sounds great Steve. I imagine no auto cutoff at all could be useful for those taking a really slow, easy drag. Unlike cigs, e-cigs can vary in their effective drag style, and you can even change up the duration and strength of your pull according to what flavor you're using, in order to vary the effect. Vapor is versatile. :)

Goodness, I feel like a newbie! I just got my extra long battery and some menthol cartomizers (KR808D-1) from V4L.

I'm still on my first cart and it's working fine on an old auto battery I had left from 4 months ago. I do detect the same undertaste I didn't especially like in the past, but it does taste better than what I remember from my first experience with the KR808D-1 (which was also my first experience with e-cigs). I'll withhold judgment on current KR808D-1 carts until I stick with this for awhile and try other flavors.

But the extra long manual battery is a disappointment. I keep looking at the LED to make sure that I'm pressing the switch button correctly. I guess I am, because the LED is on. [And I have used manual batteries before, e.g., on my Prodigy.] However, the flavor and vapor (let along throat hit) range from modest (when I take a very long draw) to virtually non-existent (when I take the same draw as with the auto batt).

And I'm comparing apples with apples here, that is, the same cartomizer on a regular KR808D-1 automatic battery as on the new extra long manual battery. And I'm not comparing the flavor/vapor/throat hit with my Prodigy or even my DSE801 penstyle, but with the KR808D-1 auto batt. And these are KR808D-1 carts, not GreenCig (I compared the length with some old KR808D-1's I had lying around).

BTW, I tried using a 4-month-old cartomizer that is still working well on my auto batt. It doesn't work at all with the extra long. It's not like sucking a milk shake through a straw, but like sucking a pencil, i.e., no air intake at all. [My guess is that they were made differently then, constucted in such a way that they can't work with a sealed battery.]

So what's up? Why am I so disappointed:(, when so many folks here are raving*?

I'm hoping someone will say something like: Oh, Don, you don't press down on center of the button, you.... But I'm not counting on it.

Something is wrong with your battery, Don.I don't know why you are not getting a great hit, I liked mine so much I ordered a bunch more of them in anticipation of a coming possible ban of products. I sure wouldn't have if it performed the way you are describing. Try charging it up before using it? I'm sure you would have already thought of that, though.

On edit: I just pulled out one of the ones I got yesterday in my order, xlong manual and it hits so hard that I hardly have to draw on it, when I press the button down, vapor starts flowing into my mouth and there are huge plumes when I exhale. Just wanted to give another one a try and see if it was weak, but it is not. I didn't charge this one before using. I went from a 6volt mod to this one and am not disappointed, so that gives a bit of an idea of how hard they hit when working properly.

Don, I am not manual fan myself as I take really deep draws and cutoffs annoy the heck out of me. I can say that if I cheat the cutoff by releasing and repressing while I am still inhaling, I get impressive amounts of vapor. I have not yet found a battery that beats my passthrough (an auto), though the extra long manual does come a bit closer to it. I did have one that was a bad one and it performed rather like you are describing. I had ordered two and one did the deed well and the other not so much. Steve readily replaced the faulty one. So if the cutoff cheat doesn't do it for you, I would reach out to Steve for a replacement.

Maybe the one you got just needs a couple days to break in. I dont think it is any better for throat hit than all the other batteries i have. Though you can mash the button again if you wanna take a really big draw. I like how long my XL battery lasts. If you want consistent throat kick try the passthroughs. If you want no cut off try the manual passthrough, one i got never quits until i let go. If you end up liking the flavors, i think you'll end up loving your XL battery soon.

Thanks, folks for your advice! I did charge it of course, but not for that long, just until the charger light turned green. I'll charge it overnight and check it again ... give it another day or so ... then contact Steve.

Lemons happen I know. I just don't have any sugar at the moment to make lemonade. ;)

Do you have any new cartos to try on it? And my offer still stands btw ;)

Some have said that the older KR808 cartos don't work on the new manual batts, I haven't run into that but a new carto might be a good test.

This info may already have been posted somewhere, but if so I missed it.

Put a multimeter to a long battery yesterday to see why it sizzles so nicely and discovered that it's handing out an extra half volt (4.2V versus 3.7V for standard battery). Now what am I gonna do with my 4 standard batts? What a terrible problem to have. ;)

All of my 3.7V batteries will show over 4V when they first come off of the charger. This is called "surface charge". As soon as you put a real load on the batteries they will drop down to their rated voltage (or below).

That being said, it would not surprise me if the internal resistance of the longer batteries is lower... which will allow them to deliver more power.

Oh, I know you will, Steve! You have a stellar reputation. I'll contact you directly to arrange (perhaps swap it for the extra long auto batts you'll be getting at some point).

I tried both, Jen:
  • One of the brand new carts that came with the same order from V4L. That cart kind of works with the extra long batt and works great with a regular batt.
  • And an old cart from 4 months ago that doesn't work at all on the extra long, but works fine with a regular batt (confirming your observation)
It may be a "lemon" or it may be me (e.g., I also hated the manual 801 battery)*. Either way: no harm, no foul ... with a reputable supplier like Steve.

* I find that I really don't like a small switch button. The very large button on my Prodigy is a pleasure to use (of course, for what I paid for it, it better be.:D).

Thanks all!

Don, Mike(my Hubby) said thank You! Now I don't have to order the long batt just yet!:p

I hope my "tale of woe" did not unduly influence your decision, Mary Kay (even though your penny-pinching:rolleyes: husband is relieved). As you see here in this thread (and elsewhere), most folks are thrilled with that extra long manual battery.

[And we are talking about the extra long, right? The regular length KR808D-1 batt often is referred to as "long" to distinguish it from the short batteries of the GreenCig G300.]

Sorry you didn't like it and suprised actually because most people find that it is pretty darn close to the manual passthrough... which totally kicks ..... I'd be curious to find out if it was just a dud battery. I have 4 and they are all amazing. I will probably try the extra long autos also when they come out, mainly because I want to have everything lol!
