Extracting flavor from REAL fruit.

I feel like the way you're going to want to do this is going to depend kind of on the fruit, as far as the starting the process goes.

For a citrus fruit I'd start with using the rind of the fruit, NOT the pith and NOT the actual fruit inside. I'd scrape that off and mix it with some sort of grain alcohol (everclear or vodka..cheap is fine) and let that soak for a few weeks. Then I'd cook about half of the alcohol off before mixing in the PG and cooking more off.

For a berry I'd use freeze dried fruits, or dry my own so I could make sure they were as dry as possible... and do the same mixing with the grain alcohol etc

Of course, I've never done this with with a fruit, but I am thinking I might give it a shot and I'll keep you all posted!

Ive tried this with no success several times and by several different methods.
Doesnt work. Fruit must be distilled.

A host on Vapeon.tv show, Cadalack, demonstrated several times how you can make real fruit extractions using VG, pure grain alcohol, and the fruit, not the pith or the rinds, although I guess theoretically, you could do those as well. It's really a simple process, but I honestly don't remember the explanation precisely enough to post it here and possibly steer someone wrong by leaving out a step or confusing some technical aspect of the process. But, basically, you fill a mason jar 1/3 full of VG, 1 tall glass shot glass or 2 short shot glasses of pure grain alcohol, and whatever fruit you want to extract, cut into chunks, and let it sit in the fridge for a month, shaking vigorously every few days. You also use heat to burn off the alcohol. But, again, I can't remember the exact process. But, I can check with him and post back here with a more specific step-by-step process.

my Idea on it would be to take dried fruit, slice, dice, chop it down even further and add it to PGA ( everclear) since PGA doesnt disolve sugar that well ( it will a tiny bit since PGA is 5% water)... soak/steep for several weeks to extract what it can.... once done, evaporate about 70-80% of the Everclear off at low heat ( 120-140F). Once that is done, filter it thru coffie filters 2-5 times, then one can infuse the concentrated extract into VG/PG etc... and vape..

thats how I would do it... :)

the pith/rinds contain oils that make things taste rather bitter.... I would leave those 2 parts out of the equation.... :)

how is the store bought concentrared flavors made ?

Here is a small amount of info from Cooking Issues. These guys really know there stuff. Centrifuges in the Kitchen

I don't think the flavor of fresh fruit will come through unless you "high-tech" it. I believe the sugar content will be far too high unless you can spin the solids, where the sugar is, out of solution. I think professional extracts are all done through a steam/centrifuge process.
