Hello, Mags: :)

The documentary you mentioned about Afghanistan sounds like something I should watch since my nephew has been over there two times and did his first deployment in Iraq. The beheading of idealistic journalists and prisoners have to end.

If we could just get the heck OUT of there and find an oil substitute all this would be over. Great suggestions. Thanks.

Two long form documentaries, I don't know where you can find them now, Decade of Destruction on the South American rainforest, and Shoah about the mechanics of the Holocaust, kind of a different look.

They were both broadcast by PBS, so you might be able to find them at the library.

Now I want to see the follow ups to these, which I didn't know existed until I went digging for links.

We just saw Experimenter

In 1961, famed social psychologist Stanley Milgram (Peter Sarsgaard) conducts a series of radical behavior experiments that test our willingness to obey authority.

I have watched the real footage of the Milgram experiments several times. I also read the book and the many other social experiments he conducted. It is traveling around the art house circuit in every city and worth watching more than once. I am definitely going to get my own copy eventually. Peter Sarsgaard reminds me of a young Jack Lemmon. Truly excellent.

I'm just going to drop this here:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Wiseman

Another long-form documentarian; he could also be classified as a journalist in many ways, specializing in institutional explorations, often no narration; he just lets it all happen in front of the camera

Recommend anything by this guy.

Yes, anything he does is worth watching. Missile and Basic Training, etc.
