Failed attempt at rebuilding Protank

My kanthal 32 and 3mm silica came in and I tried rebuilding the Protank.

First attempt: didn't give enough allowance for the silica and they started coming loose as I screw it on my SVD to test ohm.

Second attempt: with a 5/4 wrap, everything went well and I screwed it on without the top post and it read 2.0ohm.

I then snipped off the excess silica and attached the top post and screw on the tank. But as I fired, there was a red light and another ohm check shows that it's 0.7ohm now.

I then tried again and it shows 0.0ohm.

Did the thing sort? Too late for another go but any advice will be appreciated.

Had this problem when rebuilding mine with cotton. Did u snip off the kanthal wire as close as possible so when u screw it on to the bottom cap it wont be touching the bottom cap? I took mine off and snip off the kanthal wire and then it worked. Hope this helps

its shorted.. remove the "chimney" and use a small pointed object to push your coils away from the sidewalls, making sure they dont touch. also, like desmondsg has mentioned, snip off any excess wire before screwing into the base.

Definitely a short. Make sure the wire isn't touching anything the positive and negative terminals and that you don't have any hotspots.

Coiling PT2 is almost similar to vivi nova,

My experience using 5 wraps with kanthal 32AWG. snip off remaining wire and mount on ego t or any mod. Dry burn it till u see a glow, start with pulse method till u see the 5 coils glow evenly and assemble it and vape.

got my ekowool today. damn, it is a shoelace.

flamed the ekowool and then rebuilt my fogger with it. yucks, the taste.

I managed to rebuild 2 heads at 1.7ohm.

I made things simpler by not twisting the legs, and doing a 4 instead of 5 coils, did the checks on wire sorting and hotspots and it's working great.

1 thing though, the coils in the centre seem to heat up a little faster than the sides. I tried adjusting and doesn't help. Not sure if it'll cause a problem later.

That's how the coils are suppose to heat up. From the center out. You see that, you have a good coil.

Its supposed to heat from the center onwards. I'm doing 7 coils with 32 AWG on cotton wicks. Great vape!

Have you tried cotton? Would like to know the difference between cotton and ekowool.

Some of them swear by cotton.Me, i haven't tried it yet, i just want to build my first proper coil without screwing it up haha

It's quite easy to use cotton. You just build the coil on a syringe, toothpick or whatever, put it in place. then thread the cotton into the coil and there you have your wick. After about 10 tries rebuilding, i am confident and taking less than 5mins rebuilding my PT2 now.

Have not rebuilt by PT2 yet but rebuilt the Nimbus and Fogger with cotton (due to bad taste from ekowool)... good taste and vapour. dunno if can post video on vapour here though
