I gave up last Christmas - Bah Humbug! - didn't send one, first time ever.
I must admit, it's not my favourite task! ...and I do try to get ours sent before we receive many because some people seem compelled to write on every spare inch of blank card with a summary of their past year! Some even enclose letters!
I only posted essential ones last year!
Hope you're feeling better, Bob. I think the tourist industry would be better advised to think about how many people would stay away because of the ban. Wales really doesn't need to lose tourism.
I used to work with a gallery in Oban, and always stayed in the same hotel in a front room overlooking the harbour/sea. When the smoking ban happened, we were shocked to find it immediately imposed at this hotel without any warning when booking, and we were put in a tiny oppressive rear annexe room that was due for re-decorating - and no reduction on the £100 per night charge! - the owner admitted that it suited them not to have a specific area or rooms that allowed smoking because their insurance was so much cheaper!
The usually busy bar and restaurant of that hotel became soulless places, virtually deserted once there was no smoking in the bar, and it stayed that way every time we visited after.
The hotels with a less strict attitude had a few decent smoking rooms, and a veranda or smoking area near the bar/restaurant, and they remained fairly busy.
No doubt they all became far better patronised once e cigs came onto the scene, but something similar to the smoking ban will put them right back to where they were.
Like many places in the country, Oban enjoys a good tourist trade, and such restrictions will keep people at home or anywhere that has a more sensible & liberal attitude.
