Just a point to all of you that are delving into using 7.2% or 72mg/ml Nic base liquid - please make sure you use some sort of protection when using it, I assume most vendors are sending out safety leaflets with the supplies, but minimum recommendations are liquid/chemical resistant gloves & sleeve covers, safety glasses or goggles & particle mask for nose & mouth (assume these last 2 are the same as you would use for spray painting etc.).

Another piece of useful info picked up from UKV
If you can use a freezer it will keep your nicotine base liquid nice and fresh for years
1 remember stick a label on it
2 For long term storage use glass bottles to keep the oxygen out
3 fill to the brim ,little or no head room/air space
4 Smaller bottles are best 100ml or less as they warm up quicker when removed from freezer and unlike large bottles they might bounce if you drop them.
5 Dont flavour it before you sick it in the freezer
6 Give it a good shake after you bring it back up to room temp
7 Try not to stick it all in one freezer--- I just had a lab fridge go into reverse it got hot, very hot , mine had an alarm so it got spotted same day.

Heat is the real killer but light will have a small effect
Best colour for glass bottles to stop light damage
Best to worst --amber, brown ,blue ,green, clear

Hmm, i wonder how long it will be until other manufacturers follow suit !
I suppose it depends on how much they try to pass them off as looking identical - I can't tell the difference with the Hana ones ..at least I haven't noticed the difference from online images.

With the istick ones, they usually don't appear to be the same.
Someone suggested that the istick 50 'style' ones at FT may be the last of the authentic ones that had potential problems, but to me, that in itself would be misrepresentation. Whatever!

All good points Bob :thumb:
I'm used to handling liquid lead regularly, and using paints containing lead, chromium, mercury etc., so I'm used to hazardous liquids etc. - doesn't mean I feel OK about handing liquid nicotine though because I don't particularly.
Needs must - but I'm always very careful with heavy metals and toxic substances.

How long does a bottle of VG (or PG) last ..shelf life. Also, is that different once it has nicotine added - apart from a little gradual strength loss?

I ask because I'd prefer to make two or three 100ml bottles of whatever chosen strength at a time rather than just one. Means I handle the nicotine less often.

2 For long term storage use glass bottles to keep the oxygen out - I'm going to order some amber glass bottles

3 fill to the brim ,little or no head room/air space - I had wondered about that ...I thought that surely there's liquid expansion when frozen. ..but this stuff obviously doesn't!

4 Smaller bottles are best 100ml or less as they warm up quicker when removed from freezer and unlike large bottles they might bounce if you drop them. - I was already wondering if I'd be better off transferring the 100ml bottles to 50ml glass ones because I only make low strengths: perhaps 6, but definitely 3mg.

7 Try not to stick it all in one freezer--- I just had a lab fridge go into reverse it got hot, very hot , mine had an alarm so it got spotted same day. - No way am I buying two freezers! I do intend checking it each day though to make sure it's working OK.

Trish if there is NO air in the bottle, there is NO room for expansion :)
Duh! OK :D ...so why are other liquids intended for freezing supposed to be in a slightly bigger container?

I looked the other day at my dilutants, and the PG had an expiry date of 1 year from bottling, but the VG had no end date or bottling date, but looking on other forums, they seem to suggest that made up liquids tend to only last about a year max if kept in a cool dark place, possibly longer in a fridge, I'm lucky at the moment because the bottles I bought about 9 months ago have been kept in my wardrobe cupboard and the bedroom is the coldest room in the house due to waiting for all the windows to be replaced with double glazed (tilt & turn mechanism bust about a year ago and because of the major works they refused to replace just that one).

At the moment I have it in my upright fridge/freezer but I also have a smaller chest one, so could split them if necessary - doubt if I will though

Depends of which liquids you speak of. I think with nicotine, if ice crystals got in the bottles, when defrosted that ice will melt into water, and you wouldn`t want that. Hence, filling right to the brim. :)

PropyleneGlycol is an ingredient that you find in Anti-Freeze - that's why it doesn't actually freeze and VegetableGlycerin has I believe similar properties

With 'made up' you mean ready to use flavoured? If so, yes, I just talked about this with Clark at Nicoticket a few days ago - he said 1 year, but kept in a cool dark place in the amber bottles, it would last longer - especially if in a fridge at around 50f.
If you mean with nicotine added to the base, then I'll likely make 3x100ml bottles at a time. That should be OK.
Thinking I may need to get the matching fridge for that little freezer!

From what I gather the liquid doesn't actually freeze whether it is PG or VG
You're right! I'd forgotten that ..too much information to soak up at times!

There's rarely any spare room in our upright, and I think I could get protests if I wanted to store nicotine in it anyway. When the freezer arrives - perhaps tomorrow or Thursday - I'll be able to see how many 100ml bottles it'll hold.

OK then, makes sense! :) Thanks.

Wonder why we'd need to put it in amber bottles when it'll be in a dark freezer most of it's life. ...actually, would I be better transferring the nicotine to 50ml bottles as that will last me a good while anyway? ...I believe I was told that around 8-9ml would make 100ml of .6mg, so if I'm going to be using at least half of it at .3mg, a 50ml bottle will last a long time.

Yes, I believe glycerine doesn't freeze solid ..just gets rubbery

Got another question ...if/when things go pear shaped, and if we're still able to get zero nicotine flavoured liquids (as on the Swiss site) would I just remove the appropriate amount from that bottle and add the right proportion of nicotine to it? ...shake it up and let it steep a few days?

Both flavoured and unflavoured on the made up liquids, because once you open that bottle of Nic base you start the degradation process, because:
A) you have let oxygen mix with it
B) you are going to add something to it, thereby weakening it.

on the last question for 30ml bottle you need to replace about 2.5ml (or add 2.75ml and make it up to 32.75ml) of 72mg (7.2%) nic to get 6mg/ml.
For a 50ml bottle just divide 2.5 or 2.75 by 3 and multiply by 5 to get the replace or add figures
and yes to shake it and steep it

The very question i was wondering

For 30ml 12mg/ml you would replace 5ml or add 5.5ml of 72mg nic - in other words twice as much as the figures I quoted for Trisha above

Using the calculator gives you the replace figures, and playing around with the target bottle size will give you the add amount
