What are your general thoughts on Clapton coils? I bought some ud which were meh. Took ages to heat. The triton mini claptons are fine but not worth paying more than the other kinds and also have a fair bit more throat hit. I just haven't had any I've thought wow yet. In general
Do you prefer Clapton or are you still trying more to find if there's one great one?

Maybe I haven't seen the more flavor
More vapor benefits in the couple I've tried? I won't be wrapping my own anytime soon
They definitely need more clout from the mod to heat up, I have a TFV4 mini on a DNA200 @ 50w, a Triton2 on a Zero @ 35w, and a homemade single coil in a Bullet on a Raptor @ 5.61v - I wouldn't say I prefer them, but so far I have not had a problem with them

That's been my general thought too. They're
$£€2 more per 5 pack most places on the triton mini coils and I don't really see a reason to choose them over the 1.2 for that application

The premade coils I got from ud were just really the wrong style for me.

I'd like to find some really thin Clapton wire to make my own with and see what I think. Like 28 wrapped with 30 or 30 wrapped with 32

Think if I recommended a Kanthal wire it would be 28g the same as I normally use, and not guilty re the twisted, might have been Terry or George
Not guilty...I recommended the vape mesh company, but i gave the link to 26 ga kanthal and not clapton wire :)

partly guilty by association of 26g  - probably George for the Clapton wire, she said twisted which I know you have done in the past, but if she meant Clapton that's different

Oops sorry.
I found the other link and it was for all the kanthal wire http://www.vape-atomizer-mesh.com/products/kanthal_a1_type_wire.html

I don't know why I thought it was twisted.
If you choose to use twisted you have to factor it in as up one gauge for every wire.

28x2 twisted is about the resistance of 26
30x4 twisted is about the same as 24 30/28/26/24

I'm sure you've realized gauges jump by 2 numerals.

There is a calculator for how many wraps to do with a give gauge or twisted over at steam-engine

I don't expect this to be too much value necessarily now. However Ina. Few weeks or a month you may find it helpful to have heard this previously.

I personally use twisted whenever I can. I use 28 gauge a lot and for kanthal I have been searching unsuccessfully for 30 x2 twisted. Can't find it. So for now i use 28x2 twisted and wrap for 26

Again maybe not helpful now but in the future. I actually do believe that twisted wire leads to better flavor. And it's relatively significant in my experience. But I vape moth to lung. Like cigarette smoking and I choose flavorful atomizers.

Here is the steam engine coil wrapping calculator. Hope it helps.

Ps if anyone comes across double twisted 32 or 30 or Clapton wrapped 28/32 28/30 etc. please let me know. I'd order enough it would be work getting from the uk or Europe. It's nowhere here. And not on fasttech that I've found. My gem tanks won't really take larger than 28. 26 pushed.

Not good, Triton (not mini) coils are the same price for all types over here, so are the Innokin ones I bought, there might have been a difference on the TFV4 ones, but not £2 worth

It's probably the initial pricing. They're available so infrequently now I have to think pricing will
Come down to level. Sweet vapes has all three packs for $12.99. Angelcigs and a couple
Of motherboard want $14.99 for the Clapton. I personally think the coils shouldn't be priced over $2 per. And hopefully when more available more like $1.50. They're very small and use a minuscule amount of material Compared to their sub ohm brethren. Though I think some Of those really big coils are $4.50 or $5 per in packs of 5. Reminds me why I make my own when possible. Still the triton mini coils are excellent for mouth to lug vapors. They're he only true advance in that area in the last two years roughly.

*!Hey I just noticed. my typos are down to normal levels since my right hand started working again and my brain pressure was released. Missing letter here and there. Not completely different text that looks fine to me. How exciting

I haven`t even tried that Bob, too much faffing about  I know you can buy it ready made now, but i`ve just never bothered with it. I got some clapton a couple of weeks back, put a dual build in a aromamizer, but ripped them out as they were so close to the chimney wall. Not touched it since

Sorry terry, I got it all mixed up.
Absolutely no need for apologies Sue, it can be a bit confusing at first, so much stuff out there :)

I think the twisted ones will be far too complicated for me so I will stick to learning on a single wire.
Thank you so much for explaining :)

You're going to become a coil wrapping master.

Someone pointed out the tools available for coil wrapping already right? The rods you slide wire into and spin the end etc? I'm sure it's been mentioned already but best to check!

Also don't underestimate how much is covered in YouTube. There are easy to follow examples for almost everything there.
