Blah. I really don't need the government to protect me. I should be able to opt out of the regulations by signing a waiver or something. :)

I'd rather do my own research and make my risk choices myself.

I agree, and furthermore, wars of choice, faith-based initiatives, and tax incentives for big corps. Unfortunately, we can't pick and choose which parts of government we would each like to recognize (just ask that maniac in Nevada).

I've just received notice from CASAA and due to the fact the only reason I generally make comments at this site is legislation related I am not sure where to make this post and I am hopeful that you will know, the following is what I have just received.

FIRST CALL TO ACTION
FOR
FDA PROPOSED REGULATIONS

Two weeks ago the FDA released its proposed regulation attempting to exert regulatory authority over e-cigarettes, other smoke-free alternatives, and other products as "tobacco products." To better understand the import of these regulations, please see our summary of the
what and why of the deeming regulation and CASAA's preliminary analysis of proposed regulations.

On Thursday, May 8th, 2014, CASAA issued the
overview of its Action Plan regarding proposed FDA regulations. The Action Plan will consist of several Calls to Action issued at staggered dates to maximize effectiveness.

THIS IS THE FIRST CALL TO ACTION

CASAA has issued the First Call to Action in connection with FDA proposed regulations, which encourages consumers to request an extension of the comment period.

We know that hundreds of thousands of vapers and other THR supporters have been wanting to do something to respond to the proposed regulations. This is the first opportunity to do something that really matters. CASAA is doing the research necessary to offer advice to consumers about substantive comments as well as our own comments. However, it is clear that we will not be able to do this as well as we would like within the 75 days, and thus consumer comments will be less useful unless the deadline is extended. We will be submitting our own more detailed request for an extension within a few days (and if you want to wait an see that before submitting your own, you can).

The ANTZ (anti nicotine and tobacco zealots) seem to be organizing a campaign to push the FDA to not extend the deadline, and are implying that it is only industry that wants an extension. We need to make it clear why an extension is needed, that thousands of people support providing the extension, and that this is not primarily about industry's interests. Again, there has been enormous interesting in doing something, and this has resulted in a lot of gestures that are unlikely to make any difference other than creating a feeing of having done something.

Please take the time to do this. It matters. (The link to the full First Call to Action is below.)

Forward, repost, and share . . . and explain to others why this is so important.
Sincerely,

Julie Woessner, President

Well, I suppose whether I put this in the right place or not, one thing I believe is that simply posting a link to this information won't get it done, really needed to post the entire call and not just linked, people are lazy and hopefully they will easily read what has to be done.
Thank you in advance if you as a veteran member can post this in it's appropriate place.

Filled out and sent. Done. It takes less than 5 minutes, even personalized it a bit to make it my own. If you don't have time to personalize it, no problem. Simply sending it over helps. I hope this gets around because we need to come together as an eCig community before too many unfair, bias, and ignorant restrictions pass over ecigarette users. Whoever sent out the notice to fill it out, thank you very much. Cheers & Happy vaping! :vapor:

It already is in its appropriate place (CASAA forum). I'm just spreading the word.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...s-urged-request-extension-comment-period.html

Comment written, submitted, and CASAA notified of the comment. It is important that posters do not forget to tell CASAA about it!

We have had dozens and dozens of participants in this thread. Yet, I see that we have just a few posting here about submitting comments....has everyone else done so and posted on CASAA's thread?

Done and done.

I submitted a heavily abbreviated version, short and to the point.

Dear Mr. Zeller:

I am writing as a private individual to request that you use your authority under 21 CFR 10.40 to extend the comment period for the your agency's Proposed Rule Deeming Tobacco Products to be under your regulatory auspices for an additional 105 days, from its current 75-day period, to 180 days.

As a consumer of products that are proposed for regulation, specifically "electronic cigarettes", the Proposed Rule raises a number of issues that are relevant to me. It is not possible for me to fully research all of these issues and write a cogent comment within the 75-day period allowed.

I had to do some serious soul-searching before submitting this because it really rubs me the wrong way to "request" anything at all from government.

Yeah, I wanted to say:

Dear FDA,

Extend the comment period to 300 days, and show a bit of gratitude to the taxpayers while doing so.

Signed,

A guy who pays your salaries.

Unfortunately my friend you now only pay less than 50% of their salaries, which is probably why we're in this mess to begin with.

A fair point. So as long as they don't mind a 40% pay cut, they should be free to carry on. Sigh.

I know it's irrelevant. I didn't say anything like that, but I really wanted to. Instead I bowed and scraped like a good little boy. Grrrrr.
