FDA Deputy Commissioner Josh Sharfstein to resign, lied about and tried to ban e-cigarettes

Ever since I first began corresponding with Josh Sharfstein in 2004 (when he was Henry Waxman's staffer responsible for campaigning to enact the FSPTCA), he's adamantly opposed all tobacco harm reduction products and policies.

Waxman/Sharfstein worked closely with CTFK/ACS/AHA/ALA etc to oppose every amendment I advocated for the legislation to:
- eliminate the intentionally inaccurate and misleading warnings on smokeless tobacco products,
- truthfully inform smokers and other tobacco consumers that smokeless tobacco is far less hazardous than cigarettes,
- allow smokeless tobacco companies to truthfully inform smokers that smokeless was less hazardous than cigarettes, and
- encourage (instead of discourage) tobacco companies to market less hazardous smokefree alternatives.

All of that occurred before e-cigarettes were even marketed.

I'm fortunate in one way, however. I live 35 mins from VA, and 35 mins from DE. That may end up being a very good thing. It was when I was buying cigarettes. Much cheaper in both states.

How many U.S. smokers who were thinking about making the switch saw the news reports on "carcinogens and antifreeze" and decided to keep on smoking? How many citizens of other countries never even had the opportunity to think about switching because their officials banned the products based on the FDA's "safety concerns"? During these past 18 months, how many smokers who might have saved their health--had it not been for Sharfstein's malicious interference--smoked the cigarette that triggered COPD or cancer? From where I sit, the man is a murderer.
